European Ga.M.E.S. Days
The European Event “European Ga.M.E.S. Days” will be organized in Narni (Umbria Region, Central Italy), in May 2015, since 23rd to 24th.
The event is the last one of a serious of initiatives and actions foreseen in the European
project “European Medieval Sports & Street Games Network (Acronym: Ga.M.E.S.Net) Development European cultural diversity through the promotion and protection of the traditional sports and games”, funded by European Union inside the Preparatory Action in
the field of Sport 2013 – Priority n. 3: Promotion of traditional Sports and games.

L’evento è inserito nel più ampio programma di azioni ed iniziative previste all’interno del progetto “European Medieval Sports & Street Games Network (Acronym:
Ga.M.E.S.Net) - Development european cultural diversity trough the promotion and
protection of the traditional sports and games”, finanziato dall’U.E. nell’ambito
dell’Azione Preparatoria Partnership Europee nel settore sport per l’anno 2013 Priorità 3: Promozione degli sport e dei giochi tradizionali.
Applicant of the project is the Italian Federation of Traditional Sports and Games
(F.I.G.Es.T.). It represents a transnational partnership composed by 14 partners from 8 different EU countries, among which also Municipality of Narni is
present. It is a perfect and suggestive medieval setting of the
event.
Il progetto è stato presentato e realizzato dalla Federazione Italiana degli Sport e
dei Giochi Tradizionali (F.I.G.eS.T.), in rappresentanza di un partenariato transnazionale composto da 14 partners di 8 diversi Paesi Europei, tra i quali è presente
la Città di Narni, splendida e suggestiva cornice medioevale della manifestazione.
The event opens the final phase of the Ga.M.E.S.Net project,
after about 18 months from its starting date, with the primary
objective to promote, safeguard and value the important European cultural heritage of traditional sports and games with
common origins, values and basics.
During the event there will be the chance to see and play
various traditional sports and games presented by the
delegations in the old town centre of Narni.
A Conference open to public audience is also scheduled, during
which delegates will present the results of the project, announce
the winners of the contest for young people and discuss
possible future activities to promote traditional sports and
games..

L’evento apre la fase conclusiva del progetto Ga.M.E.S. Net dopo quasi 18 mesi
dal suo avvio con l’obiettivo prioritario di promuovere, tutelare e valorizzare il
ricco patrimonio culturale europeo rappresentato dagli sport e dai giochi tradizionali, le origini storiche comuni, i valori e i principi fondanti.

Durante l’evento sarà possibile scoprire vari giochi e sport tradizionali presentati
dalle delegazioni in postazioni installate per le vie del centro storico di Narni. I visitatori potranno inoltre cimentarsi nelle varie specialità seguendo le istruzioni dei
giocatori.
Ci sarà anche una Conferenza aperta al pubblico in cui si esporranno i risultati del
progetto, si proclameranno i vincitori del concorso per i giovani e si valuteranno
nuove iniziative per la tutela e la promozione dei giochi tradizionali.
Il progetto intende concentrarsi in particolare
sull'origine storica e culturale e sui punti in comune dei giochi e degli sport tradizionali in Europa. Questi rappresentano una parte
fondamentale del patrimonio territoriale intangibile e un simbolo importante della diversità
culturale della nostra società.
Conoscere i valori di questi sport e giochi vuol
dire conoscere la cultura e l'identità tradizionale di un Paese o di un territorio; quindi essi
rappresentano un valore aggiunto per lo sviluppo locale e la costruzione di programmi di
cooperazione internazionale.
È importante condividere informazioni, modelli
e buone pratiche con l'obiettivo di individuare
strategie comuni per salvaguardare, promuovere e sviluppare tradizioni e valori, coinvolgendo in particolare le nuove generazioni
(studenti, volontari, atleti, ecc.) per garantire la
continuità del patrimonio culturale e sociale.
Pertanto, in questo progetto, le attività di comunicazione e divulgazione giocano un ruolo fondamentale, in particolare l'utilizzo delle nuove
tecnologie dell'informazione e della comunicazione e l'implementazione di strumenti e azioni
di uso comune tra i giovani.

It focuses in particular on the historical and
cultural common origins of the traditional sports
and games in Europe, representing a
fundamental part of the intangibile territorial
heritage and an important symbol of the
cultural diversity of our societies.
It is really important to share information,
models and good practices with the aim to
identify common strategies to safeguard,
promote and develop the traditional sports and
game. Such actions are addressed in particular
to young people (students, volunteers, atlethes,
etc.) in order to ensure the transmission of such
important cultural and social heritage to new
generations of European citizens.
Communication and dissemination activities
play a strategic role within the Ga.M.E.S.Net
project. In particular, the use of the new
information and communication technologies
and of media tools of common use among
young people are key instruments for the
implementation of the project.
