MIND THE BRIDGE START-UP SCHOOL
Mind the Bridge is a Californian non-profit, based in San Francisco, founded in 2007 by
an Italian Google manager, Marco Marinucci. The foundation intend to build a bridge
between the Italian talents and the skills of Silicon Valley through programs of different durations tailored to the needs of the Italian business world.
On October 29th in the San Francisco offices the 4th edition of 2012 of one of these programs, the Startup school,
will begin. Up to a maximum of 14 participants will be able to plunge for 3 weeks in the startups ecosystem of Silicon
Valley to follow both theoretical and practical modules useful for the development of their business. All of the modules are taught in English by prominent personalities from different fields. The school, in its second year of life, accepts
4-5 times per year young entrepreneurs, students and professionals from all over Italy and not only.

The U.S. Department of Commerce would like to invite Italian companies to visit Medica, the worldwide most
important trade show for the healthcare sector, which will take place in Düsseldorf from November 14 until 17, 2012.
In 2011 the trade show registered over 134,500 visitors coming from 60 foreign countries. Italian companies looking

TWO ARTICHE WRITTEN BY MAURIZIO GARDENAL
Two recent articles related to highly remarkable topics written by Mr.
Maurizio Gardenal, Attorney in Milan, are worth mentioning.
The first one deals with the punitive damages and their possible
recognition within the Italian law system with a particular emphasis on a
recent ruling by the Corte di Appello of Turin which upheld a US decision
which awarded a US citizen with compensation of, among others, such damages.
The second article provides general guidelines with regard to the American financial credit system and possible ways
for Italian investors to get financing in the USA pointing out the major differences between the two countries.”
Both contributions have been published by Italy’s top financial daily newspaper “IlSole24” in the on-line section
“Diritto24” and may be also found in the website of the law firm www.gardenal.it.
THE AMERICAN EMPLOYMENT DATA PROCESSED BY ADP ADP NATIONAL EMPLOYMENT REPORT
ADP, the world leader in payroll outsourcing, process each month, the
National Employment Report: based on data aggregated and anonymous,
the report provides an overview on the progress of the American
occupation of small, medium and large private sector companies. ADP
National Employment Report provides monthly to the U.S. government.

September 2012 ADP National Employment Report®
Employment in the U.S. nonfarm private business sector increased by 162,000 from August to September, on a
seasonally adjusted basis. The estimated gains in previous months were revised lower: The July increase was reduced
by 17,000 to an increase of 156,000, while the August increase was reduced by 12,000 to an increase of 189,000.
Employment in the private, service-providing sector expanded 144,000 in September, down from 175,000 in August.
Employment in the private, goods-producing sector added 18,000 jobs in September. Manufacturing employment
rose 4,000, while construction employment rose 10,000, the strongest since March when mild winter weather was
boosting construction activity. The financial services sector added 7,000 jobs in September, marking the fourteenth
consecutive monthly gain.
Employment on large payrolls—those with 500 or more workers—increased 17,000 and employment on medium
payrolls—those with 50 to 499 workers—rose 64,000 in September. Employment on small payrolls—those with up to
49 workers—rose 81,000 that same period. Of the 64,000 jobs created on medium-sized payrolls, 10,000 jobs were
created by the goods-producing sector and 54,000 jobs were created by the service-providing sector.

TARIFFE SPECIALI PER LE PMI E NOVITA’ TECNOLOGICHE PER AMERICAN AIRLINES
SME 2012 - American Airlines has decided to introduce a new
product in the Italian market for small and medium-sized
enterprises. The product SME 2012 allows a discount on all Business Class fares and certain one of economy class.
This product is dedicated to the business traveler and is available from Sept. 10 and can be purchased until June 30,
2013 for travel by December 31, 2013.
This decision has been taken to meet the needs of the market of the economic entities of those who have to make
trips to North America.
These discounts, in fact, include travel to the United States, Mexico, Puerto Rico and Canada, on American Airlines,
British Airways and Iberia departing from Italy.
These fares are sold by selected IATA agency in the area, but, exceptionally, American Airlines has decided to
provide these discounts for all Amcham members.

Tablet in flight
After the introduction of tablet devices such as entertainment for premium class passengers on flights from Italy and
the IPad in the cockpit for the first official and pilot, American Airlines introduced the Samsung Galaxy Note for flight
attendants, too.
The introduction of these systems will take place between the end of 2012 and the beginning of 2013, allowing flight
attendants to have access to a program that will help them to carry out their activities during the flight service. In this
way they can easily fulfill the passengers requests. The assistants will have access to the cabin map, identify frequent
flyers, have access to meal preferences, information on gate and connection, etc.
This project of fleet information technology launches the company in the future. American Airlines is the first U.S.
airline to introduce these technologies in flight.

The law firm Curtis, Mallet-Prevost, Colt & Mosle LLP is organizing a seminar
entitled "The Impact of FATCA (the U.S. Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act)
in Italy" on Wednesday, October 24, 2012 at its Milan office in Corso
Matteotti 3, from 12.30 p.m. to 2.30 p.m..
The FATCA legislation, included in the Hire Act 2847 signed by President Obama on March 18, 2010, will have a
significant world-wide impact on financial operators who hold or receive - on their own behalf or on behalf of third
parties - assets, accounts or income flows of U.S. origin (for example dividends, interest, income from derivatives or
swaps, gross proceeds from the sale of U.S. securities).
Curtis attorneys, together with important banking and financing representatives, will discuss the impact of the new
legislation regarding FATCA on Italian financial operators (such as, for example, banks, hedge funds, private equity
funds, securities firms), illustrating the reporting and disclosure requirements to which they must comply.

THE PINK RIBBON CAMPAIGN OF THE ESTEE LAUDER COMPANIES CELEBRATES ITS
20th ANNIVERSARY
The Breast Cancer Awareness Program, better known as the Pink Ribbon
Campaign in Italy and which includes a full array of activities, information,
media and fundraising initiatives, celebrates its 20th anniversary. In fact,
it was formally established in 1992 by Evelyn Lauder, the late Senior Vice
President of the same-name cosmetics Group.
The mission of the Breast Cancer Awareness Program is defeating breast
cancer. Such Campaign geared toward women’s health is held every
October in more than 70 countries on every continent. Spreading the
culture of prevention as well as the awareness that early diagnosis can
save the life of many women is its gist.
As every year, a range of initiatives will take place in October such as wearing a little pink ribbon, the worldwide symbol of the fight against breast cancer, or seeing a breast specialist or scheduling a mammogram either at your
doctor’s office or at a facility of the Lega Italiana per la Lotta contro i Tumori (LILT- Italian League for the Fight Against
Cancer), partner of The Estée Lauder Companies since 1994. The money collected from the fundraising operated in
several ways by The Estée Lauder Companies during the month of October is allocated to LILT, which will be using it
for prevention activities within the Pink Ribbon Campaign.
