THANKS TO INNOVATIVE PROJECTS THAT DEPLOY CREATIVITY AND CROSS-COMPANY SYNERGY he traditional showroom concept is no longer enough. Whilst serving their primary function, that of showcasing the best of a company’s collections, such spaces are often restricted. In terms of potential, that is, rather than actual space. It is necessary to come to terms with an economic crisis, with a clientele that is increasingly demanding; but also to compete with the web that offers everything in the space of a click. So, the search is on for new ways of interfacing with customers, of revealing its qualities. These static showrooms are being flanked by more dynamic spaces that are integrated in a real-life context, where it is possible to live out authentic design experiences. No longer limited to just “touching” a product, but being able to “try out and experience” it as well. Two examples. The first Bed&Show has recently opened in Milan: a 110 sq m apartment in via Tortona, which enables people to interact with furnishings by means of a hospitality expe- the name of Design-Apart, this is a project - to be inaugurated in mid-October - by Diego Paccagnella, designer and creative talent, and Stefano Micelli, professor at the University of CàFoscari. Design-Apart is a living showroom, a new way of producing and distributing Italian made furniture on international markets. The project sets out from Manhattan, from inside a 250 sq m loft, which brings together important companies of the Italian furniture, which offer customized products. From Ermes Ponti, to Berto Salotti, Exnovo, Milldue, TM Italia and many others. Here, people may enter and attend events or cooking shows. Paccagnella himself will live there for a year, before finding a new location to export the project to. And this is the new trend when it comes to narrating the Italian lifestyle story, for melding design with conviviality, for enabling furnishings to live in their proper context, in order to make ourselves feel at home at all times. T A LINK TO CHINA Un ponte con la Cina Born of a collaboration between the artist Simon Ma and the Creazioni brand - which share the same imaginative vision of reality the Shangri-La armchair was previewed at the Venice Biennial. Nine design brands have offered their products: Fabrika Italia Design and KitchenAid for the kitchen and domestic appliances, Stocco and New Line for the bathroom, Zeroombra for the lighting, Nube and Ozzio Design for the living room and bedrooms, Fabricatore for mattresses and pillows, and Serralunga for outdoor furnishings. No longer just a Bed&Breakfast, but a place in which to sleep while making l concetto di showroom tradizionale non basta più. A Milano ha recentemente aperto il primo Bed&Show: un apparta- I design come to life in a new format. The apartment has been transformed into a small boutique, where partners change their products, so that their latest novelties may be displayed. And that’s not all: the Bed&Show Design Experience then becomes an opportunity to talk design, to host events on creative themes. Another initiative made in Italy, but this time with a more international buzz.
