POPE SISTO IV DELLA ROVERE’S HOUSE
Pope Sisto IV della Rovere, back in the century, Francesco della Rovere, was born in a modest
Savonese family in Pecorile (Celle Ligure). He was the son of Leonardo della Rovere and
Luchina Monteleoni. Entered in the Franciscan Order and studied philosophy and theology at
the University of Pavia. He dedicated his life to teach in many Italian universities. He was
nominated general minister for the franciscans in 1464. In 1467 he was appointed cardinal by
the Pope Paolo II and elected into the pontificate August 9, 1471.
