Always allow iron heater and tip assembly to cool to room temperature before attempting to change tips. This also allows any expanded metal parts to cool and return to their original sizes, enabling them to be easily disassembled. Allow the tweezers to cool to room temperature. Loosen the two tip retaining studs. Remove the tweezer tips and replace with the new ones. Re-tighten the retaining studs carefully ensuring they are not over-tightened. The tweezers may now be used with the new tips. Figure 1 shows the profiles and sizes of tips available for the surface mount tweezers. Hints and Tips 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. Always tin the surface mount tweezer tips prior to soldering. Apply a coat of solder to the tips before the heat is turned off or when the tweezers are left idling for excessive periods of time. Use only rosin based fluxes, acid based fluxes will reduce the tip life. Excessive surface mount tweezer temperatures greatly reduce tip life, always adjust the temperatures according to the soldering joint and type of solder used. Do not file or clean the tip with abrasive materials. This removes the tip's copper coating and impairs the function of the tip.
