Thomas Diego Armonia nasce a Genova nel 1971, diplomato in design di moda tessile
e costume a Genova e presso l’Istituto Superiore delle Arti Applicate di Padova.
Dopo la prima esposizione nel 1993 a Padova, l’artista si dedica completamente alla
pittura e alle esposizioni. La sua arte mantiene uno stile figurativo classico che sviluppa
nel tempo, aggiungendo design e architettura.
Ritratti di popoli, istantanee di costumi e di epoche diverse, universi culturali dove
l’artista é stato capace di cogliere e rinterpretare i sentimenti attraverso i dettagli e gli
sguardi che caratterizzano il suo stile.
Le prime opere di Armonia sono un inno alla cultura dei “popoli lontani”, consacrando
temi come il flamenco, la danza contemporanea, Inuit e gli indiani d’America, i veli
dell’oriente e le sculture polinesiane, tutto cio grazie ai suoi viaggi, una sorta di
carnet de voyages che unisca arte e antropologia umana.
Abitando da diversi anni a Parigi, l’artista dal 2006 decide di consacrare una bella serie
di opere dedicate all’architettura, cambiando il formato in quadrato, ricordando
le istantanee polaroid ed il loro “fermare l’attimo”. Quell’attimo di una donna dagli occhi
ammaliatori, sfondi di case o castelli francesi, stilizzando abiti e pizzi e in oltre
modificando la scelta di colori: bianco e nero con infinite sfumature. In seguito
aggiunge un elemento prezioso; l’ORO, tipico della “Ville Lumière”, dei suoi ponti del
l9esimo secolo, dei lampioni e delle sculture che contornano teatri e cabaret.
Lo sguardo è spesso rivolto verso l’aspetto piu frivolo di Parigi, quello da “Moulin Rouge
- dames et champagne” , donne degli anni 30 impregnate di un prezioso velo plumbeo,
corpi ritratti tra i ricordi nostalgici di una potenza passata, fatta di rivoluzioni e nascenti
repubbliche. Una bellezza barocca, dove la donna è opulenta piu nel suo potere di
seduzione che nelle sue forme fisiche. Inevitabile soffermarsi sui dettagli delle serie
“Paris, je t’aime”; il gioiello, sublime goccia d’arte, vanagloria femminile, elemento
fondamentale fra arte e design, fra arte e lusso.
Armonia sostiene che il creatore di oggetti di lusso spesso s’ispira all’artista, visionario,
originale, non conformista, ma soprattutto, artefice di oggetti unici che non si
caratterizzano per la loro utilità ma per la loro capacità di provocare emozioni.
Crystalexe e Thomas Diego Armonia uniscono il meglio dei due mondi e ci
trasportano in una nuova dimensione di magnificenza e fasto, dove il designer diventa
arte con inimmaginabili dettagli. Crystalexe in collaborazione con l’artista, nella loro
constante ricerca di l’esclusività e raffinatezza, hanno creato un incontro dove l’opera
d’arte e preziosi cristalli si fondono, accordandosi tra cura e precisione, tra moderna
tecnologia e genio artistico.
Thomas Diego Armonia was born in Genoa in 1971. He has completed a Degree in
fashion design and costume in Genoa, Italy, and the Higher Institute of Applied Arts in
Padua.
After his first exhibition in Padua in 1993, the artist devoted all his time to painting and
exhibiting. His art maintains a pictorial style that evolves over time, adopting elements
of design and architecture.
Portraits of people, snapshots and costumes from different eras, cultural universes
where the artist was able to capture and interpret feelings through details and looks,
characterize his style.
Armonia‘s first works celebrate the culture of “distant peoples” and feature themes such
as flamenco, modern dance, Inuit and Indians/Native Americans, Oriental curtains and
Polynesian sculptures. As a consequence of his travels, Armonia’s work resembles a
travel diary where art and human anthropology blend.
After having lived in Paris for some time, in 2006 the artist decided to dedicate a good
series of his work to architecture. He changed the format to that of a square, a shape
resembling Polaroid pictures and their “Catch the Moment” spirit. Check out the
moment caught by the woman with the spellbinding eyes, the houses and French
castles in the background, the stylized clothes and lace, all that marked by a change of
colours to black and white with thousands of shades. He later added the characteristic
touch of GOLD, emblematic of the “Ville Lumiere” with its 19th century bridges, its
street lamps and sculptures surrounding theatres and cabarets.
Glance is often cast towards more frivolous aspects of Paris. This is the Paris of “Moulin
Rouge”, and “dames et champagne”, with girls of the Roaring Twenties enwrapped in an
expensive lead veil and captured by the eye of the artist among the nostalgic memories
of a past greatness, made of revolutions and rising republics.
A baroque beauty where what makes a woman rich is the opulent power of seduction
rather than her physique. One can not help but stop to appreciate the details in the
„Paris, je t‘aime!“ series: the jewelry, the sublime drop of art, the female vanity,
fundamental elements connecting art and design, and art and luxury.
Armonia claims that the creator of luxury objects often is inspired by the artist, he is a
visionary, an original, a non-conformist, and above all an architect of unique items, his
aim is not produce something useful but to generate emotions.
