AMERICAN FOUNDATION OF SAVOY ORDERS
Savoy Foundation's Gala at the Metropolitan Club - Ballo di Savoia
A Glamorous Night Benefiting Programs for Underprivileged Children
On Saturday, December 13, 2014, Savoy
Orders members, their families and guests
gathered at the Metropolitan Club in New
York City for the 17th annual Ballo di
Savoia charity ball. It was a formal whitetie celebration and gathering that has raised
funds for a variety of worthwhile charities
over the years. Opening the Christmas
season, the event continued its reputation as
one of the most glamorous fundraisers of
the winter, offering 270 guests an elegant
soirée in an opulent setting. The Ballo was
part of a three day weekend of events
organized by the American Delegation of
Savoy Orders and the Savoy Foundation.
Savoy Orders’ charities are supported by
the knights, dames and friends of the
American Delegation of Savoy Orders, part
of an international association continuing
the ideals, spirit and centuries-old customs
of hospitaller care honoring a thousand year
history of the Royal House of Savoy. The
mission of the Savoy Foundation is to
continue the Savoy Orders hospitaller
service by supporting medical, educational
and hospice care initiatives. Each year the
Ballo endeavors to build-on and continue
this tradition. Its existence today connects
us with our past in a socially relevant way
that fosters, in the many people that support
the event, a desire to help others. This
year’s charity ball chose programs for
underprivileged children as the main
beneficiary.

Welcome Reception – Friday, December 12, 2014
Saturday’s Savoy Ball was preceded by a
Friday evening welcome reception, hosted by
Savoy Foundation President Gr. Uff. Marco

at the Colony Club. Honoring new members
and promotions in the Dynastic Orders of the
Royal House of Savoy, receiving recognition
at the next morning’s investiture ceremony in
the Cathedral of Saint Patrick, the elegant
reception, overlooking Park Avenue, provided
a warm, convivial setting to launch the
festivities to follow. Guests traveled from as
far away as California, Michigan, Texas,
Georgia and from outside the United States,
primarily from France, Italy, Montenegro,
England and Scotland to participate in the
scheduled three day events.

The Gala began at 7:00 p.m. when guests
were greeted with a dazzling champagne
reception upon their arrival in the third
floor ballroom. During the reception, guests
had the opportunity to socialize while
tasting the fine prosecco, cocktails and hors
d’oeuvres. At 8:00 p.m. the dignitaries and
guests, impressive in white tie, tails and
decorations for the gentlemen and
resplendent ball gowns for the ladies,
proceeded to the elegant Grand Ballroom
by descending the majestic double staircase
accompanied by the Inno Sardo Nationale,
the old Sardinian Kingdom’s national
anthem before Italy was united as a
monarchy in 1861 under the House of
Savoy. Ballo Chairman Gr. Uff. Joseph
Sciame’s welcoming remarks were
followed by those of Savoy Foundation
President Gr. Uff. Marco Grassi, Vice
Delegate Comm. L’On. Pasquale Menna
and Savoy Foundation Chairman Cav. Gr.

During the evening’s festivities, raffle door
prizes and table favors, donated by
Antonovich Furs, Cav. and Mrs. Louis M.
Micoluci, Dama di Comm. Vivian Cardia
and Cav. Marcello Tallarigo, were
distributed to the delight of the winners.
Sumptuous dessert buffet tables and the
glow of a cheerful fireplace were offered in
the adjoining lounge. The Mitch Kahn
Orchestra once again provided dance
music. Dinner table decor theme was royal
purple with gold table ribbons and center
floral arrangements of white hydrangea and
white and mauve roses. The evening was a
great success and the best attended Ballo.
The Metropolitan Club food was delicious
and service was white glove. The rest of the
evening unfolded with a unique blend of
1920s to 1980s music, ensuring the dance
floor remained at capacity until the last few
party goers left for home just past midnight.
