Personal Statement
During my education and training at the Medical School of the University of Bologna, Italy, I learned what was the real
meaning of being a physician and how challenging it can be when dealing with clinical patients and their diseases. I have
taken-on this challenge and have committed myself for the betterment of the care of my patients through research and
discovery. Until 2005, all of my training has been based in clinical settings. My training at the Boston Children’s Hospital
and at the San Raffaele Hospital allowed me to expand my research interest to the field of immunobiology and
autoimmune diabetes. My long-term goal is to combine my scientific experience in research with my clinical background in
developing my future career and becoming an independent investigator in the field of diabetes.
