Solid State Ionics
The 21st International Conference on Solid State
Ionics (SSI-21) is a world-class meeting devoted to all
aspects of the science, technology and applications
of ion-conducting materials. SSI-21 will gather
leading international scientists and engineers, providing
an unparalleled opportunity to exchange ideas between
people with different backgrounds and foster the
development and professional growth of both young and
experienced researchers alike. The topics of SSI-21 will
cover fundamental and applied aspects of ion-conducting
materials, both conventional and innovative. Fundamental
studies, both experimental and theoretical, will find their
justification in cutting-edge applications such as devices for
the conversion and the storage of energy (e.g., batteries, fuel
cells, redox flow batteries, electrolyzers, supercapacitors);
microelectronics; communication systems and robotics.
SSI-21 will also cover the field of ionics in biologic systems
and life sciences.

SSI-21 will provide a comprehensive overview of all
the areas of Solid State Ionics. The symposia, which will
be grouped in different macro-areas, will cover both the
fundamental and the applied aspects of these materials.
Macro-Area 1: Energy and the Environment (focused
on solid-state ionic materials for energy conversion and
storage systems such as fuel cells and electrolyzers,
redox flow batteries, primary and secondary batteries,
supercapacitors and ultracapacitors, and photovoltaic
device and the development of sensors)
Macro-Area 2: Microelectronics, Communication
systems, Robotics (aimed at the development of
advanced materials and systems for application in the ICT
field and robotics, such as switches, conductors, actuators
and microelectronic components)
