Auditions for the opera roles of
La Fanciulla del West by Giacomo Puccini
Teatro del Giglio is holding auditions for opera singers to be chosen for the cast of La Fanciulla del
West by Giacomo Puccini.
The show is a co-production between Teatro del Giglio, Lucca (Italy), New York City Opera (NY,
USA) and Opera Carolina, Charlotte (NC, USA) and will debut in the course of 2017. Further
auditions will be held in the United States (communicating and organizing such auditions will be
managed by our US co-producers). At the end of the overall auditioning process, the cast of the
opera will be composed for its tour.
In order to participate at the auditions at Teatro del Giglio, you must be:
a) Older than 18 at the date of the audition
b) A citizen of an EU Country or have an extra-EU citizenship with a residence permit in the EU
Candidates must fill out an application form for the audition and supply any other document
requested exclusively through the web page

by and no later than May 10, 2016. At the end of the application procedure, a confirmation email
will be sent to you.
Audition applications delivered personally, through fax, postal service or email will not be
accepted.
Teatro del Giglio assumes no responsibility for any technical and/or IT problems that may hinder
prompt receipt of the applications filled out by candidates.
If the requested attachments are not presented, the candidate will be excluded from the
audition.
Candidates applying for the audition will undergo a pre-selection process based on their CV,
repertoire, audio and video files supplied together with the application. Those candidates retained
eligible for a live audition will be officially summoned by Teatro del Giglio within May 14, 2016
through the e-mail address supplied upon registration (hence please carefully check the address
supplied on the application form), indicating the date and time of the audition.
It is understood that candidates not re-contacted within May 14, 2016 were not retained eligible
for live auditions at the Opera House.
GENERAL RULES
Auditions will be held at Teatro del Giglio, Piazza del Giglio 13/15 – 55100 Lucca (map)
Candidates must arrive with the following documents in order to be able to hold the audition:

Valid ID card or passport
Copy of the music scores of the chosen arias they intend to sing, to be given to the piano
accompanist
The committee has the faculty of choosing to listen to one or more selections among those
presented, in the order and number it retains most appropriate. The committee also has the
faculty of requesting the candidate to perform any selection taken from the role or roles for
which he or she is auditioning.
The selection committee is comprised of:
Aldo Tarabella, Artistic Director of Teatro del Giglio
Michael Capasso, General Director of NYC Opera
James Meena, General Director of Opera Carolina and orchestra Director of the production
Ivan Stefanutti, Director of the production
The artistic directors of the opera houses involved in the opera’s tour may also be present in the
committee.
Participation at the audition implies the candidate’s unconditional acceptance of the
unquestionable judgment of the Selection Committee and of the norms of the Opera House.
Those candidates retained eligible to cover the roles will be contacted by the Secretariat of Teatro
del Giglio.
