E
n cette année 2010, nous
fêtons les 15 ans de notre
bulletin, et allons publier
son 60e numéro en décembre:
une occasion pour tout le monde
de faire le point:
La création du TTP a été décidée
lors du IIIe Zaf mondial qui s'est
tenu en 1994 au Chili. Le
concept de base était que la
confrérie avait besoin d'un lien
international, facile à fabriquer
et bon marché, qui permette à
toutes les confréries d'avoir des
nouvelles du monde et, par ce
moyen, de cultiver le sentiment
d'appartenir à une même entité et
à une même culture.
A l'origine, le bulletin paraissait
2 fois l'an et sur 4 pages. Il était
photocopié à 25 ou 30
exemplaires puis adressé par la
poste à chacune des Vigies
internationales. Celles-ci étaient
à leur tour chargées de diffuser
son contenu par les moyens les
plus adéquats.
Très vite, cependant, Internet a
bouleversé cette stratégie. Grâce
au travail de Brise-Galets, TTP a
commencé à parvenir à tous les
Cyber-Frères, comme nous
disions alors. Cela se passait il y
a plus de 10 ans déjà.
Aujourd'hui, le bulletin n'existe
plus qu'en format électronique.
Le mode de diffusion a changé,
certes, mais le co ncept
fondamental du TTP, lui, n'a
guère évolué. TTP, la mémoire
de la confrérie, est toujours
conçu comme un document
destiné à être imprimé et
conservé, d'où le format .pdf que
nous utilisons et qui a fait ses
preuves.
Mais aujourd'hui, nous nous
posons des questions, non pas
sur son existence même, mais
sur sa forme. Participez à cette
réflexion en répondant aux
questions suivantes:

D
uring 2010, we will
celebrate the 15 t h
anniversary of our
bulletin. We will be publishing
its 60th edition in December - an
occasion for all to take notice.
It was decided to create TTP
during the 3rd World Zaf which
was held in Chile in 1994. Its
basic concept was driven by the
need for an international link
which was easy to fabricate,
inexpensive, and which would
allow all our Brotherhoods to
have news from around the
world, thus cultivating the
feeling of belonging to the same
entity with the same culture.
In the beginning the bulletin
appeared twice per year on 4
pages. It was produced in 25 or
30 copies addressed and posted
to the International Vigies who
in turn were charged with
diffusing its contents by the most
adequate means.
Very quickly, however, the
Internet upset this strategy, but
thanks to the work of BriseGalets, TTP started to reach all
Cyber-Brothers. Today, the
bulletin only exists in electronic
format.
The method of diffusion has
changed, without a doubt, but
the fundamental concept of TTP
has remained the same. TTP, the
record of our Brotherhood’s
activities, is always created like
a document destined to be
published and archived in PDF
format which has proved itself
worthy over the years.
Today, however, we have
questions, not about its existence
but about its form.
Please participate on this survey
by answering the following
questions:

importance of Tortuga Post for
the fraternity and for yourself?
2. What kind of reader are
you? Do you read TTP
exclusively on your computer?
Or do you print it to preserve it?
3. What changes would you

n questo 2010 festeggiamo i 15
anni del nostro bollettino e
andiamo a pubblicare il numero
60 in dicembre : un’occasione per
tutti per fare il punto.
La creazione del TTP è stata decisa
in occasione del terzo Zaf mondiale
che si è tenuto in Cile. Il concetto di
base era che la Fratellanza aveva
bisogno di un legame internazionale,
facile da costruire e a buon mercato,
che permettesse a tutte le Fratellanze
di avere notizie dal mondo e in
questo modo coltivare il sentimento
di appartenere a una stessa identità e
a un’unica cultura.
All’origine il bollettino usciva due
volte l’anno e su quattro pagine. Era
fotocopiato in 25 o 30 copie e inviato
poi per posta a ciascun Vigìe
internazionale. Questi erano a loro
volta incaricati di diffondere il suo
contenuto con i mezzi più adatti.
Molto presto, comunque, Internet ha
stravolto questa strategia. Grazie al
lavoro di Brise-Galets TTP è stato
inviato a tutti i Cyber-Fratelli come li
chiamiamo noi oggi. Questo è
successo da più di dieci anni. Oggi il
bollettino esiste soltanto in formato
elettronico.
Il modo di divulgazione è cambiato
ma il concetto fondamentale del TTP
non ha conosciuto evoluzione. TTP,
la memoria della Fratellanza, è un
documento destinato a essere
stampato e conservato, ecco perchè
usiamo il formato .pdf che ha
comunque fatto il suo tempo.
Ma oggi noi ci poniamo delle
domande, non tanto sulla sua stessa
esistenza quanto sulla sua forma.

CHILEAN
EARTHQUAKE
Based on an email received
from National Captain
Daniel Alvarez, contributions have been received
from various Brotherhoods
around the world. These
contributions have been
shared amongst 6 Brotherhood families directly affected by the earthquake in
the form of bedroom furniture, kitchen appliances etc.
Next, the funds will be
used for basic food baskets.
There are numerous Brothers whose jobs are scarce
because employers had to
close due to damage sustained by the earthquake.
More information is expected during the next few
months which I will share
with you in the next TTP.

Queridos Hermanos:
Sesenta años de una institución, es una gran navegación que merece la pena celebrar, mas cuando ella, ha crecido por los Mares de la Tierra y hoy somos miles los
que abrazamos los preceptos de la negra bandera.
Es por esta razón que la Hermandad de la Costa de Chile, festejará con un Zafarrancho Internacional, nuestros sesenta años, en reconocimiento a los siete Hermanos Fundadores por habernos regalado esta Institución a la que tanto amamos.
Esto se efectuará en el mes de Abril del 2011, para lo cuál se les hará llegar próximamente el programa y sus costos.
Esperamos que nuestro Dios Neptuno y Eolo lleven por Mares y Océanos esta botella y encuentre la recepción que se merece y tengamos en Abril próximo la posibilidad de estrecharnos en un abrazo fraterno, los Hermanos de la Costa del Mundo.

navigation worth celebrating.
Even more so when it
develops throughout the seas
of the earth. Today we are
thousands who have
embraced the rules of the
black flag.
It is the reason for which our
Chilean Brothers will be
celebrating our sixty years
with an International Zaf
recognizing the seven
founding Brothers who have
bequeathed to us this
institution we all so love.
These festivities will take
place during the month of
April 2011. We will publish
details regarding the program
and the budget shortly.
May our Gods Neptune and
Eole transport by sea and

Ce samedi 20 mars 10 a eu lieu
notre « Branle Bas National »
organisé de main de maître par
nos Frères anversois.
Cet événement était d’autant plus
important que ceux-ci fêtaient les
50 ans de la Table d’Anvers. Le
Branle bas Natio nal est
également l’occasion de faire
connaître les Frères des autres
tables aux jeunes Frères au cours
d’un petit cérémonial de
présentation.
Cette année la réunion a eu lieu a
midi, ce qui a permis à nos Frères
plus âgés de participer au branle
Bas et plus particulièrement de 3
Frères fondateurs de la Table
d’Anvers, les Frères Tenace,
Chas et Pilule.
2010 est aussi une année
exceptionnelle car nous avons un
changement de Grand Frère
National ainsi que de son scribe.
En effet, à chaque Zafarrancho
nous changeons de Grand Frère
National et Scribe.
La charge de Grand Frère
National est reprise pour les
quatre années à venir par notre
Frère « Compte A Flot » FC 422
dit Michel Linet de la table de
Bruxelles. Il a choisi comme

LUEBECK “ from East Anglia,
Greenwich, Bavaria, BerlinPotsdam and, to our great delight,
Pablo Castro from Nao Santiago
with his Captive Anette. Pablo,
as german resident, meanwhile
became part of Berlin-Potsdam
table.
On this occasion, we also
welcomed guests from Hamburg
in order to slowly integrate them
into our international way of
living our Hermandad and
prepare the upcoming table in
this important harbour city
carefully.

At Berlin-Potsdam Table,
preparations started to make the
“GOOSE FAIR” in December
again an international event, with
traditionally great participation of
our world wide Hermandad. Do
not miss the exciting city of
Berlin in Christmas decoration
and a program, only BerlinPotsdam table can provide.

POLONIA
This year, as usual and as the
tradition guide us, the Polish
Hermandad rewarded merits of
another worthy person with its
‘once in a lifetime’ highest prize,
‘Glory of the Seas’ award. That
once a year event fall on 22nd
May 2010 in Baltic harbour town
Kołobrzeg where the recipient
was presented with the material
object of the award: the full size
Pirate Battle Axe suitably
engraved with the name of the
owner.
The person honoured by “Mesa
Kaprów Polskich” was at this
occasion our Brother Wojciech
(Adalbert) Jacobson (rol no.44).
He is MSc of chemical
engineering by profession but his
lifetime engagement in yachting
proved to have, at the very least,
an equal or perhaps even a major
importance. He clocked over
260,000 nautical miles on various
sailing yachts, small as MARIA
belonging to our ‘Monje del Mar’
Ludomir Mączka (rol no.6), or
big as ill fated sail training ship
CONCORDIA. He crossed all
world oceans including Cape
Horn, Magellan’s and Northwest
Passage through Canadian
Arctic.
He received his Yacht Captain’s
Ticket in 1965 and before time of
our award was already recipient
of several prizes: ‘The Silver
Sextant’ (twice), honorary
membership of Polish Yachting
Association and his club AZS Academic Sports Association
where for many years he was
managing sailing education. He
values highly his ‘Derek Zavitz
Memorial Award’ (1998) from
Canadian Students ‘for a worthy
following attitude’. His Brothers
in Poland think likewise.
Another recent development in
Polish Brotherhood is repeated
revitalization of the website
www.her mandaddelacosta.pl
which previously did fall into
disrepair and became a ‘worm’s
nest’. Thanks to efforts of the
n e w we b ma s t e r , B r o th e r

can now be approached without
fear. It is still under development

Brother Exchange Program
An idea formulated by “Sparks”
US Vigie
One of the richest experiences
within the Brotherhood is the
ability to travel to Tables around
the world and be welcomed with
open arms. Experiencing
Brotherly hospitality while in a
new cultural environment is an
i n va l uab le a sp e ct o f t he
Brotherhood. Unfortunately, many
Brothers have not taken advantage
of this due to various reasons.
My idea to address this problem
is by starting what I call the
Brother Exchange Program. It
addresses this issue by facilitating
reciprocal visits between Tables of
different countries for those
Brothers who have not traveled to
a Table outside their country.
Each Host Country or Table will
use a random process to select a
Brother among those who have not
traveled outside their host country
to a foreign Table. The Host Table
will arrange accommodations for
the traveling Brothers. In addition
each country will provide a
stipend ($1,000?) for the traveling
Brother to help defray expenses. It
is anticipated that each country
will select one Brother per year
initially.
Each Host Table will meet the
traveling Brother at the airport and
provide accommodations during
the visit (at least one week) in a
Brother's home. In addition the
Host Table will develop a program
which will give the traveling
Brother suggestions for
experiencing the culture of the
Host Table's country. It is also
expected that the traveling Brother
will be the Guest of Honor at a
Host Table Zaf.
The traveling Brother will be
responsible for arranging dates
and transportation to and from the
host country in consultation with
the Host Table. It is expected that
traveling Brothers will write down
their experiences and impressions
during the visit to share among
Brothers in their Table and with an
article for Tortuga Post.
Captives of course are encouraged
to participate if possible.

Dans la matinée du 20 juin
2010, à Nantes, notre valeureux
frère Spartel a appareillé pour des
mers toujours sereines. Que Neptune accorde de naviguer en paix
sur l’océan de l’éternité à ce marin
qui a sillonné avec bonheur et
succès toutes les mers du monde.
Michel avait fait très tôt
son apprentissage avec ses parents
qui pratiquaient l’école de croisière à bord de voiliers de bonne taille.
En 1963, lors de la création
de la revue Neptune nautisme, il
avait été chargé des essais de bateaux. Il était aussi très apprécié de
voiliers de course en haute mer.
A bord de son Centurion
Rousslane, il avait fini deuxième
de la première course en solitaire
de L’Aurore et avait remporté cette épreuve l’année suivante. En
1973-74, il avait participé à la
première course autour du monde
en équipage sur Kriter, un ketch
armé à l’initiative de Jack Groult,
Grand Frère de la table de la Tortue, en Isle de France.
En 1978, Michel Malinovsky s’était engagé dans la première Route du Rhum. Partisan des
monocoques, il avait fait dessiner
par André Mauric un voilier de
près de 20 mètres, Kriter V. Il
était arrivé au nord de la Guadeloupe en même temps que le petit
trimaran de Mike Birch, et au terme d’une régate homérique menée
tour à tour par les deux navigateurs, Birch l’avait emporté avec
la marge infime de 98 secondes,
un événement devenu historique.
A bord de ses voiliers suc
cessifs appelés Pacha, toujours
des Bénéteau, Spartel et sa compagne Maïté avaient effectué plusieurs croisières aux Antilles.
Frère de la Côte de longue
date, Grand Frère de France en
1992 puis Scribe du Conseil des
Sages, Spartel avait contribué à la
création de la flotte de Gascogne,
à laquelle il appartenait, et à celle
de Lion Tramontane.
C’est un des meilleurs marins français qui, vaincu par la
maladie, nous abandonne, sur nos
rivages terrestres, à notre immense
tristesse
La Plume.
Après 1980, lorsque la
course de L’Aurore est devenue la
Solitaire du Figaro, Michel en a
assuré la direction aux côtés de
son ami et Frère de la Côte Paul
Médard dit Vent Debout.
Michel était l’auteur de
plusieurs livres, notamment un
remarquable ouvrage sur la croisière, dans lequel il dispense avec
compétence et de façon très
concrète les fruits de son exceptionnelle expérience. Le constructeur Bénéteau avait aussi bénéficié
des conseils de « Malino ».

Hace 17 años desde que la BOCLIST empezaba con 18 nombres. Hoy día tiene 2.267 Hermanos registrados en él, representando a 31 países.
Como la lista ahora contiene mas
de 2.000 registros, se ha empezado a hacer más difícil mantenerla
al día, con las mismas herramientas y métodos que se estaban
usando hasta ahora. Afortunadamente, gastando un poco de dinero pude adquirir un software más
poderoso, y también encontré
ayuda dentro de la hermandad y
nuestros amigos.
Pero también cada uno de los
hermanos, haciendo unas pocas
cosas puede ayudarme a la larga,
a mantener esta lista de manera
más fácil, para ello deben proceder como se indica:
Primero: envíen todas las solicitudes o adjuntos para la lista, solamente al siguiente email: [email protected]
Mencionando Nombre y Apellido
y la mesa a que pertenece, no
usen ningún otro método u otra
dirección de email. Si entran directamente para el registro teniendo solamente una dirección de
email, sin tener el Nombre y Apellido y el nombre de la mesa, al
cabo de unos años tendré muchos
problemas para identificar esa
dirección. Cuando actualizo la
lista primero bajo del sitio la lista
de direcciones y obtengo las direcciones email, sin nombres.
Luego comparo esa lista con mi
propia lista que tiene las direcciones. Si voy a través de una dirección email que no tiene nombre,
tengo que empezar a buscar en
mis archivos uno por uno y ello
me toma mucho tiempo y no
siempre se obtiene un resultado
satisfactorio.

Segundo: Prefiero tener solamente una dirección por cada hermano. Hoy tenemos 2.429 direcciones en el sitio, para solo 2.267
hermanos. Esto significa, que 138
direcciones son direcciones secundarias e incluso hay hasta tres
direcciones para un mismo hermano, y si comparamos la lista de
2.429 direcciones con la lista de

Por ultimo: cuando envíen un
cambio de una dirección, por favor no olviden de anular la anterior, o me avisan, para que yo
pueda anular la dirección anterior.
Hasta hoy hay 142 direcciones
que no pueden recibir los mensajes porque la mailbox o casilla
esta llena o porque hay problemas
con el servidor. Esto significa,
que estas direcciones están activas
pero no en servicio. Yo empecé a
anular todas las direcciones que
están con estas fallas por más de
un año. Estas direcciones se encuentran en la lista en caracteres
Italo/Bold.
De cualquier manera, con o sin
estas cosas, continuaré haciendo
lo mejor que pueda para mantener
esta lista lo más completa y más
exacta posible, de forma tal que
cada uno de ustedes continúe recibiendo el TTP y las notificaciones
oficiales de Secoin vía email.

Vigìa e i Capitani Nazionali mi
inviassero la loro lista su un
foglio elettronico tipo Excel,
Lotus o equivalente e non su un
foglio di testo tipo Word o una
immagine tipo .jpg.
Se dovessi riscrivere
manualmente gli indirizzi ci
potrebbe essere un alto rischio di
errori.
Tutte le volte che inviate una lista
assicuratevi che le battiture siano
corrette nel senso che non ci
devono essere spazi e le virgole
non siano messe al posto dei punti
e viceversa, errori quasi invisibili
per l’occhio umano ma
visibilissimi dal computer.
Sono passati 17 anni da quando
la Boclist è iniziata con solo 18
nominativi. Oggi conta 2.267
Fratelli di 31 paesi.
Con una lista di oltre 2.000
nominativi è diventato difficile
mantenerla aggiornata con gli
stessi strumenti e procedure che
ho usato da lungo tempo.
Fortunatamente, oltre ad avere
investito un po’ di soldi per
acquistare un software più
potente, ho anche trovato degli
aiuti fra i Fratelli e gli amici. Ma
anche i Fratelli stessi possono
aiutarmi
a
rendere
l’aggiornamento più facile grazie
a poche regole semplici ma
efficaci per me.
Prima di tutto indirizzate le
vostre domande di iscrizione
e s c l u s i v a m e n t e
a
[email protected] indicando
nome, cognome e il nome della
Tavola e della Fratellanza
Nazionale; non utilizzate alcun
altro indirizzo e non fate le
domande tramite il sito perché in
quest’ultimo caso non posso
recuperare il nome e cognome e la
Tavola ma solo l’indirizzo e-mail
e dopo pochi anni avrei difficoltà
a identificare il nominativo.
Quando aggiorno la lista prima
scarico dal sito la lista degli
indirizzi senza i nominativi
correlati. In seguito confronto
questa lista con la mia lista che ha
gli indirizzi. Se mi imbatto in un
indirizzo e-mail senza nomi devo
cominciare a cercare in altri
archivi senza un risultato
garantito mentre garantita è la
perdita di tempo.
In secondo luogo preferirei
avere un solo indirizzo per
ciascun Fratello. Oggi ci sono sul
sito 2.429 indirizzi per solo 2.267
Fratelli. Questo vuol dire che 138
nominativi sono memorizzati con
due, talvolta tre, indirizzi e questo
mi complica notevolmente il
Infine quando cambiate
l’indirizzo o chiudete un account
fatemelo sapere. Attualmente ci
sono 142 indirizzi rigettati da
yahoo il che significa che gli
indirizzi sono tuttora attivi ma
rifiutano i messaggi in entrata sia
perché la casella è piena sia che si
tratti di un problema logico del
server.
Ho cominciato a cancellare tutti
gli indirizzi rifiutati da più di un
anno ma sarebbe molto di aiuto
conoscere quali sono gli indirizzi
non più utilizzati dagli iscritti.
Con o senza il rispetto di queste
regole continuerò comunque a
fare del mio meglio per far sì che
la lista sia la più completa e
affidabile possibile in modo che
possiate continuare a ricevere il

For many years we have only
had three publications that gave
any insight into the Brotherhood. The first of course is the
Octolog which provides the
rules of the Brotherhood. The
second was the “Grrreatest Dictionary”. It was a product of the
Secoin and provided a reference
to many of the people, the
terms, and the events that have
shaped this organization. Unfortunately, it has been out of print
and in the process of update for
several years. Hopefully, Tony
Olmer will make it a priority as
he takes over the reign of Secoin. The third was the Guide,
which was written by & for the
USA and provides guidelines
for the procedures of the US
Brotherhood. However, you
should keep in mind that it was
ratified as exactly that…a guide.
The law of the Brotherhood is
the Octolog.
Now we have available “Tales
of the Brotherhood”. This is the
result of a tremendous effort on
the part of R.K. Ready and Stew
Kaufman. The “Tales” is based
on interviews with many of those who have been involved over
many years of our growth in the
USA. It attempts to document
the growth and development of
our organization from a single
Table in New York to where we
are today. I know that everyone
will find interesting reading and

very informative. While it is
written to be entertaining to read,
it is based on the facts as he was
able to gather them. I want to
personally thank R.K. and Stew
for the many hours that they put
into this project. I think that you
will enjoy the result.

El Tortuga Post es enviado libremente por
E-mail a todos los Hermanos que se están
inscritos en BOC-Lista. Las Hermandades
nacionales están autorizadas para utilizarlo
de acuerdo a sus necesidades: copias,
traducciones parciales, etc, con la condición
sin embargo que siempre se indique la
fuente. Por su parte, los Vigías
internacionales comunicarán con uno u otro
de los redactores o a SECOIN las noticias
de su fraternidad. Estos comunicados serán
escritos en una de los cuatro idiomas
oficiales de la fraternidad, y no traducidos
normalmente.
The Tortuga Post is sent free by e-mail to
all the Brothers who are on the BOC-List.
The national Brotherhoods are authorized
to use it to fit their needs: copies, partial
translations, etc., with the condition that the

the International Lookouts will
