The Grade 1 and 2 children say an Italian prayer each week, revise greetings and songs learnt in Term 1 and 2. This term the children have chosen the topics they wish to know more about in Italian after discussions last term. These are their selections: *Pope Francis: What is his full name? Who were his parents and where did they live? Where does the Pope live now? Facts about him. *Romulus and Remus: The story of the twins thrown in the Tiber River and looked after by a She Wolf. Their Parents were Princess Silva and Mars(God of War). Rome was named after Romulus. *Enzo Ferrari: 1898-­‐1988. The founder of Ferrari was an Italian motor car racing driver and entrepreneur. His father and older brother died in 1916 from the flu outbreak. He also became very ill and fortunately survived. The first Ferrari was introduced in 1940. *Il Colosseo: building started in 72AD and finished in 80AD. Why was it built? Where is it? Who built it? *Torre di Pisa: Construction started by Agosto in 1173, but it was not completed until nearly 200 years later in 1300s . Its building was interrupted many times because of wars. Why does it lean? Where is it in Italy? Who built it? Why was it built? These Topics will be investigated with children using books, interactive whiteboard etc. We will construct a Fathers’ Day card in Italian. Il giorno del papa. The Grade 3 and 4 children say an Italian prayer each week, revise greetings, days of the week and the months through games. This Term the children will be working on Projects about: *Famous Italian People -­‐ artists, singers, composers, Pope Francis . Who is your famous person? Where are they from? When was the person born? When did he/she die? Where did they live? Investigate their family. * Famous Italian Buildings: When was it first built? How long did it take to build? What was it used for? Where in Italy is the famous building? Why did you choose the building? The children will be using books, the internet, interactive whiteboard in class and they will also be doing research during ICT classes with Mrs Grasso. (She will provide children with links to use (My classes page, Microsoft clipart online, Famous Italian link). The children will and then bring information to Italian classes each week and complete their projects. We will construct a Fathers’ Day card in Italian. Il giorno del papa. The Grade 5 and 6 children say say an Italian prayer each week, revise greetings, days of the week and the months through games. This Term the children will create their own Italian Menu. They will be asked to give it an Italian name, write some of the words in Italian and include pictures of the food( cibo). Inserted full stop Children will use dictionaries to write the Italian words. Once again Grade 5/6 children will be doing research in ICT with Mrs Grasso. She has provided the children with many links. For example -­‐ List of Italian foods: http://encyclopedia.kids.net.au/page/it/Italiancuisine Sample menus in Italian: http://www.musthavemenus.com/category/kids’-­‐menus.htm1 The children can use Microsoft Word to create their menus. Mrs Grasso will guide the children during ICT classes. Children will bring information they collect to Italian classes each week and continue working on their menu.
