Virtualizzazione dello storage
Storage Enterprise
y Enterprise Storage System
– Strategy that focuses on storage availability, protection,
organization, and backup
y Problematiche
– Scelta della tecnologia
– Scelta della soluzione
– Consolidamento dello storage
– Strategie di backup, restore e disaster recovery
Esigenze dei clienti
Keeping up with data growth
without adding cost or complexity
y Affordable
– Budgets aren’t all flexible
y Scalability and Flexibility
– Growing your storage infrastructure almost always means
increasing complexity of your storage architecture
– Unable to support business needs due to insufficient
storage solution.
y Reliability and Highly available
– Unpredicted downtime and data loss
– Everyone’s applications are critical
y Management
– IT Admin costs increasing due to complexity/obsolescence of
infrastructure, interoperability within environment
y Usability
– Extensive interoperability testing and migration cycles
y Easy to use
– Not everyone is a storage specialist

Storage Area Network
(SAN)
– Componente tipica dell’Enterprise Storage
y Tipi di protocolli adottati
– Fibre Channel networking con SCSI command set
– iSCSI (2003) con SCSI command set over TCP/IP
– ATA-over-Ethernet (AOE) protocol
y Lato server (host)
– Fibre Channel Host Bus Adapter (HBA)
– Accesso tramite Logical Unit Number (LUN)
y Differenze dai sistemi NAS
– http://www.nas-san.com/differ.html
SAN FC o iSCSI
y Fibre channel e iSCSI
– entrambi sono dei protocolli per reti SAN
– entrambi trasportano instruzioni SCSI
– Esistono già i primi prodotti a 8 Gb/s

Alternative DAS?
iSCSI (1)
y iSCSI sfrutta l’infrastruttura IP, tipicamente conosciuta
– 802.1x, CHAP e IPSec
– verificare quale è supportata!
