sono i gruppi che hanno vinto come i Matia Bazar e I ricchi e poveri. E le canzoni che

Antonella Ruggiero in concerto: l'artista genovese ha vinto la kermesse

Bindi nel 1961 per la sua omosessualità e
alla tragica morte di Tenco sei anni dopo.
Il cantautore della struggente Mi sono innamorato di te, nato nelle Langhe nel
1938 e trasferitosi a Genova a dieci anni, si
era presentato al festival in coppia con Dalida cantando Ciao amore ciao, ma la canzone non era stata ammessa alla finale.
Nel 1974 in sua memoria è stato istituito
sempre all’Ariston il Premio Tenco.
Fra i tanti artisti liguri che hanno partecipato alla più importante gara canora italiana, il genovese S a nd ro Gi a cob b e, che è
arrivato terzo nel 1976 con Gli occhi di tua
madre e tornerà ancora all’Ariston nell’83
con Primavera e nel ’90 con Io vorrei. Sono veri e propri trionfatori dell’Ariston i
Ma t i a B a z ar, nati nel 1975 sotto la Lanterna e a lungo identificati con la voce da
brivido di An to ne l l a R u gg i ero. Undici le
partecipazioni al festival, due le vittorie,
nel 1978 con E dirsi ciao e nel 2002 con
Messaggio d’amore, e due i premi della critica, nel 1983 con la famosissima Vacanze
from Ricchi e Poveri to Matia Bazar to Alexia.
Ligurian artists have had great satisfactions
in Sanremo – the victories of Ricchi e Pover,
Maria B azar and Al exia – but also bitter
disappointments, including the ostracism
suffered by Bindi in 1961 for his
homosexuality and the tragic death of Tenco
six years later. The singer-songwriter of the
all-consuming Mi sono innamorato di te,
born in the Langhe in 1938 and who moved
to Genova at the age of 10, was presented to
the festival by Dalida singing Ciao amore

1989, ha poi calcato anche da solista il
palco dell’Ariston: nel 1998 con Amore
lontanissimo è arrivata seconda e ha vinto il premio della critica, poi è tornata l’anno dopo e ancora nel 2003, nel 2005 e nel
2007.
Anche i R i cchi e Po v eri, 20 milioni di dischi venduti e alcune hit mondiali, hanno
al loro attivo una vittoria a Sanremo, nel
1985 con Se m’innamoro, due secondi posti, nel 1970 e poi l’anno dopo, rispettivamente con La prima cosa bella e Che sarà,
più molte altre partecipazioni.
I più giovani non si ricorderanno il grande
Na ta l i n o Ot to, che ha portato in Italia la
musica swing e ha partecipato a cinque
edizioni di Sanremo negli anni Cinquanta,
arrivando terzo nel 1955 con il suo Canto
nella valle. Né l’urlatore J o e S e nt i e ri, a
Sanremo nel 1960 e nei tre anni seguenti,
apprezzato interprete di E’ mezzanotte,
con Sergio Bruni e di Quando vien la sera
con Wilma De Angelis. Ma avranno senz’altro nel cuore la grintosa A l exi a, spezzina, prima regina della dance con i suoi
testi in inglese e poi incoronata dal 53° festival con la ballata soul Per dire di no, ma
anche vincitrice morale delle edizioni 2002
e 2009 con Dimmi come e Biancaneve di
Lavezzi e Mogol.

in 1983 with the famous Vacanze romane
and in 1985 with Souvenir. Antonella
Ruggiero, who left the group in 1989, tread
the stage of the Ariston as a soloist: in 1998
with Amore lontanissimo she arrived second
and won the critics’ award, then returned the
next year and again in 2003, 2005 and 2007.
The Ricchi e Poveri, with 20 million albums
sold and a few global hits, won at Sanremo in
1985 with Se m’innamoro, two second places,
in 1970 and then the year after, respectively,
with La prima cosa bella and Che sarà, as well
as many other participations.
The younger generation doesn’t remember
Natalino Otto, who brought swing music to
Italy and participated in five editions of
Sanremo in the fifties, arriving third in 1955
with his song Canto nella valle. Nor the pop
singer Joe Sentieri, who was at Sanremo in
1960 and in the three following years, and is
the highly regarded interpreter of E’
mezzanotte with Sergio Bruni and of Quando
vien la sera with Wilma De Angelis. But they
will without a doubt have in their hearts the
determined Alexia, from La Spezia, the first
queen of dance with her texts in English and
then crowned by the 53rd festival with the
soul ballad Per dire di no, but also moral

dell’Ariston la protesta sindacale degli
operai dell’Italsider.
La genovesità più tipica è andata al festival con due big residenti in Liguria ma nati altrove: B runo La uz i di Asmara, premio
Dimmi come and Biancaneve by Lavezzi and
Mogol. The great Faber never went to

da Un uomo vivo cantata con Tony Dallara a Un altro amore, che arriva terza. Anche i Tri l l i sono arrivati alla città dei fiori
nel 1984 con Un pomeriggio a Marrakech,
uno dei loro pochi brani non in genovese,
mentre i New Tro l l s, alfieri del progressive italiano con molti cambi di formazione,
hanno esordito all’Ariston nel 1969 con Io
che ho te e ci sono tornati altre volte a
partire dal 1971, anno dello storico Concerto grosso con la cover del brano “Una
storia” di Sergio Endrigo”.
Si segnalano infine le molte presenze al
festival di Mas s i mo Mori ni dei Buio Pesto,
in qualità di direttore dell’orchestra dell’Ariston, e dei parolieri G i a n Pi ero e G i a n
Fra nc o R ev erb eri con Gi o rg i o C a l a bre s e.
La giovanissima M on i a R us s o di Castellaro (Imperia), debuttante nel 2006 nella categoria giovani e vocalist l’anno scorso
nella discussa Luca era gay di Povia e la
bravissima Ma ri a Pi era nto ni Gi ua. E’ nata per caso a Genova, da famiglia potentina, persino la rivelazione della scorsa edizione Ari sa. b
