Atmosferic pressure is the weight of a air column on 1 cmq section (area) which is measured at mean sea level (mean sea level pressure MSLP). The standard atmosphere (symbol: atm) is a unit of pressure and is defined as being equal to 1013 mb (today in use) or 101,3 kPa (chiloPascal) or about1 kg or a water column 10 m hig (about) or 760 Mercure mm (Hg or Torr, the first mesure maked of Torricelli more than 200 years ago by the first barometer) La pressione atmosferica varia con l’altitudine (che è l’altezza sul livello del suolo o meglio sul livello del mare medio): a 2000 m la diminuzione è di ¼ circa, a 5000m di ½ circa Atmospheric pressure change according to the altitude (which is the elevation of ground level (Above Ground Level, or AGL) or mean sea level MSL): at 2000 m hight it decreases about 1/4 and at 5000 m about 1/2. At ground level the pressure can change with humidity variation or temperature: humid air and hot air are lighter than dry and cold air. The light air goes up and at the ground level a low pressure area(L) is formed and other external air arrives (from high pressure areas, H ) and form the wind (wind is the flow of air). Light wind is named breeze, strong wind is named hurricane. A big pressure variance causes a strong wind. The Beaufort scale (Beaufort wind force scale) measures the wind speed (from 0 to 12, more than 120 km/h speed or knot KNT (0-32) Le isobare sono linee che uniscono zone che hanno la stessa pressione atmosferica. Isobars are lines of equal atmospheric pressure 1 di 1♫
