Doctoral project examined the Liber de Natura Rerum, a medieval encyclopedia and its sources. The work was
dividedintotwoparts:1)newphilologicalreconstructionoftheLibertogetherwithastatementofalltheidentifiable
sources used by Thomas de Cantimpré, the compiler; 2) commentary of the Liber, analysing and explaining the
culture of the Flemish Dominican through the sources and how they were chosen and combined together. By
observingtheexplicitandimplicitsourcesandtherelationshipbetweenThomas’workandtheencyclopedismofthe
Middle Ages, the aims of de Cantimpré were reconstructed and the encyclopedia was placed and dated in the
medievalculturewithmuchmoreaccuracy.
