Mezzosoprano
One of the world’s leading mezzo-sopranos, Laura Polverelli has already sung in some among the world’s
major theather and festivals under the conduction of renowned conductors such as Claudio Abbado, Rinaldo
Alessandrini, Gary Bertini, Fabio Biondi, Ivor Bolton, Bruno Campanella, Riccardo Chailly, Myung-Whun
Chung, Jesus Lopez-Cobos, Ottavio Dantone, Colin Davis, Gianluigi Gelmetti, Daniel Harding, René
Jacobs, Jean-Claude Malgoire, Andrea Marcon, Michele Mariotti, Zubin Mehta, Riccardo Muti, Carlo Rizzi,
Christophe Rousset, Jeffrey Tate.
She appeared in such venues as Teatro alla Scala in Milano, Wiener Staatasoper, Teatro del Maggio
Musicale in Florence, Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Rome, Teatro La Fenice in Venice,
Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich, Hamburgische Staatsoper, Teatro Real de Madrid, Opéra de Lyon, Opéra
de Monte Carlo, Théâtre des Champs Elysées de Paris, Théâtre Royal de la Monnaie de Brussels, Teatro
San Carlo di Napoli, Rossini Opera Festival in Pesaro, Glyndebourne International Festival, Festival of
Orange, Festival Mozart in La Coruña, Festival de Beaune, Festival de Saint- Denis and Festwochen Alter
Musik in Innsbruck.
A baroque specialist, her operatic repertoire also include several Rossini and Mozart roles, such as Rosina
(Il barbiere di Siviglia), Angelina (La Cenerentola), Isabella (L’Italiana in Algeri), Isolier (Le Comte Ory),
Petite Messe solennelle and Stabat Mater, as well as Dorabella (Così fan tutte), Annio and Sesto (La
Clemenza di Tito), Cherubino (Le nozze di Figaro), Zerlina (Don Giovanni), Idamante (Idomeneo).
Also with regard to her concert and sacred music repertoire, her activity embraces works such as Pergolesi’s
Stabat Mater, both Vivaldi’s Nisi Dominus, Gloria and Juditha Triumphans, Bach’s Matthew Passion and
his Mass in B minor, Mozart’s Mass in C minor KV 427, Caldara’s La Passione di Gesù Cristo,
Boccherini’s Stabat Mater, Berio’s Folksongs, Berlioz’ L’Enfance du Christ.
During the last years, Laura Polverelli has enlarged her repertoire with new roles, making important debuts
with the role of Giovanna Seymour in Donizetti’s Anna Bolena in Verona (staged by Graham Vick),
Elisabetta in Maria Stuarda at the Macerata Sferisterio Festival (staged by Pierluigi Pizzi) and at Teatro
Bellini in Catania. Finally, she also sang Edwige in Rossini’s Gugliemo Tell under Antonio Pappano at the
Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Roma, as well as Sara (Roberto Devereux) and Adalgisa (Norma)
at Teatro Verdi di Trieste. In 2010, she has sung her first Romeo in Capuleti e Montecchi in Liège. With
regard to the French repertoire, she has portrayed a splendid Dulcinée in Massenet’s Don Quichotte
(released on DVD and directed by Federico Tiezzi), Carmen in Jesi and Treviso, Charlotte in Werther in
Catania.
She opened the 2014/15 season performing Dido and Aeneas (Aeneas) with the Accademia degli Astrusi
during the Festival MiTo in Milano and Torino, followed by Rosina in Il barbiere di Siviglia (Rosina) in
Padova and Bassano, Falstaff (Meg) at Maggio Musicale Fiorentino under the baton of Zubin Mehta and at
the Royal Swedish Opera in Stockholm under Daniel Harding, Orfeo ed Euridice (Orfeo) at Teatro Verdi di
Trieste and Così fan tutte (Dorabella) in Padova.
She opened the 2015/16 season performing Stabat Mater by Rossini with the Orchestre Philharmonique de
Montecarlo, followed by Falstaff (Meg) at Teatro alla Scala and Maria Stuarda (Elisabetta) in Tenerife.
Among her future plans are Falstaff (Meg) at Chicago Opera and at NCPA in Beijing, Le nozze di Figaro
(Cherubino) at Teatro Regio di Parma, Maria Stuarda (Elisabetta) at Opéra de Montecarlo, Norma
(Adalgisa) at Teatro San Carlo di Napoli.
