Serge Leroueil
Born in France, Serge Leroueil obtained his engineering degree in Civil Engineering from the Institut
National des Sciences Appliquées in 1970. He obtained his Ph.D. in 1978 from Université Laval, Québec,
Canada. After two years as geotechnical engineer with the firm Terratech in Montréal, he has moved to
Université Laval, Québec, where he is professor since that time.
His main research interests are soft clays, structured soils, compacted soils, consolidation, embankments,
cuts and natural slopes. He is co-author of about 250 technical papers, wrote about 25 Invited Lectures and
was Rankine Lecturer in 1999. He is Fellow from the Canadian Institute of Engineers, Member of the
Academy of Sciences of the Royal Society of Canada, and received the 2013 Legget Medal of the Canadian
Geotechnical Society.
