Giacomo Ciamician-Antonio Gonzalez Lectureship 2009 Cagliari, lunedì 6 aprile 2009 ore 16:00 Aula Magna della Cittadella Universitaria di Monserrato (Cagliari) Prof. Concepciò Rovira dell’Institut de Ciència de Materials de Barcelona (CSIC) terrà una conferenza dal titolo: "Molecular Electronics with Tetrathiafulvalene Derivatives" Organic materials as synthetic metals and field-effect transistors (OFETs) have attracted a great deal of interest in the last years due to their unique processing characteristics and performance levels achieved. However, in order to have devices suitable for low-cost integrated circuit technology, it is not only necessary to have materials with high carrier mobility but they also need to be solution-processed. Results in the preparations of single-crystal OFETs based on tetrathiafulvalene (TTF) derivatives prepared from solutions will be presented. These crystals exhibit one of the highest mobility found for solution-processed materials, 3.6 cm2/Vs as well as a very good ON/OFF ratio (ON/OFF > 7·106). By changing the characteristics of the organic building blocks we are able to tune the OFETs mobility and a correlation between the crystal packing and the mobility can be established. The results on the electrical properties of similar compounds processed as fibers, gels and 2D organizations will also be presented. Using TTF derivatives as building blocks we have prepared by solution-based methods metallic and semiconducting layers over polymers that behave not only as molecular conductors but also as very good strain and pressure sensors. In addition “all organic” circuits can be drawn by thermal treatment of these composite materials. Some prototype devices based on these materials will be presented.
