Junior School Principal’s Wednesday Newsletter

Many thanks to those parents who have volunteered to be Room Parents for each of the Junior School
grades, pre-school through grade four. Please note that we can always use more who are willing to help
out, especially in grade five where we have yet to find someone to volunteer. If you are the parents of a
fifth grade child, please contact Mr. Fairchild or Ms. Scopelliti to let them know you are willing to help out.
We will hold a meeting soon for all room parents to outline their responsibilities, but basically they will fall
into the categories of communication, community, contribution and, most importantly, children!
An important reminder to keep aside the morning and afternoon of Wednesday, October 16th, which is
parent conference day for parents of children in the Junior School. In a few days, you will hear from your
child’ classroom to set up an appointment for you for the 16th. There will be no school for JS children on
that day. Also, please note that the pre-school and pre-kindergarten will be holding their conference days
over the course of two days, the 16th and 17th of October. Ms. Benedetti or Ms. Hampton will be in touch
with those parents to clarify a date and time with them.
Many of you will recall the effort made last spring by one of our current fourth graders, Stella Franceschi,
who took it upon herself to publicize, advertize and collect stationery, pencils, crayons and other types of
school supplies in order to help pre-school children at the Dalhukhanyo Pre-School in Cape Town, South
Africa. We were very pleased that the school supplies made it there and that we received a gracious thank
you note from the school’s director, thanking both our community and especially Stella for taking this on.
We are very proud of Stella for her selfless work in helping others in need.
International Week, November 11-15, will be here before we know it and the school is looking for parents
who are willing to share some cultural aspects of their home country with us that week. So far, I have
heard from four parents representing Demark, South Africa, Australia and Brazil. This is a good start, but we
need many, many more parents in order to make the week the terrific experience for children that we hope
for it to be! Kindly contact me soon if you wish to share your culture with our eager world citizens!
Yesterday proved to be a perfectly beautiful day for school photos! The sunlight was great and your
children all looked wonderful! The photographer will return in February for re-takes or for taking the
photos of any student who missed their chance yesterday.
Ms. Kustrin, our music teacher, would like to begin this year’s Parent and Teacher Choir on Friday, October
11th at 3.30 in the music room. We had a wonderful group last year, who practiced and came together for
some memorable performances. If you would like to share the joy of singing with some of our teachers and
parents, please join us a week from this Friday, right after school for the first session.

Un ringraziamento ai genitori che si sono offerti volontari per essere Room Parents, dalla preschool alla
Quarta.Siamo ancora alla ricerca di qualcuno che voglia svolgere questo ruolo per le classi Quinte. Se siete
interessati, potete contattare il Sig. Fairchild o la Sig.ra Scopelliti e informarli del vostro desiderio di dare
una mano! Ci sarà presto una riunione con tutti i Room Parents per infomarli sulle loro responsabilità, che
andranno sotto le categorie di Comunicazione, Comunità, Contributi e, la cosa più importante,... Bambini!
Un importante promemoria pe ril giorno 16 ottobre, giorno del ricevimento dei genitori qui alla Junior
School. Sarete contattati nel giro di un paio di giorni per fissare un appuntamento per il 16. Il 16, pertanto,
non ci saranno lezioni per i ragazzi. Vi ricordo anche che gli insegnati di preschool e pre-kindergarden
svolgeranno gli incontri in due giorni , il 16 e il 17. Sarete contattai dalla Sig.ra Benedetti o dalla Sig.ra
Hampton per fissare la data.
Molti di voi si ricorderanno senz’altro lo sforzo di una nostra alunna, ora in Quarta, Stella Francheschi, che
la scorsa primavera ha organizzato da sola la raccolta meteriaòli (penne, pennarelli, quaderni, giochi) per
l’asilo di Dalhukhanyo, Cape Town, in Sud Africa. I materiali sono giunti a destinazione e abbiamo ricevuto
una bellissima cartolina di ringraziamento dal Preside, destinata a tutta la scuola e specialmente a Stella.
Siamo molto orgogliosi di lei!
L’International Week (dall’11 al 15 novembre) si avvicina a grandi passi e siamo ancora alla ricerca di
genitori che vogliano condividere qualche aspetto della loro cultura con noi! Per ora abbiamo quattro
paesi: Danimarca, Sud Africa, Australia e Brasile. É senz’altro un buon inizio, ma abbiamo bisogno del
contributo di molti, molti più genitori, pe realizzare un evento spettacolare come lo sognamo! Contattatemi
se volete contrubuire!
La giornata di ieri si è rivelata ottima per le foto di classe! C’era un bellissimo sole e anche i vostri bambini
erano tutti bellissim. Il fotografo tornerà a Febbraio per le seconde foto o per fare la prima a coloro che
erano assenti.
La Sig.ra Kustrin, l’insegnante di musica, vorrebbe iniziare il coro dei Genitori e Insegnati venerdì 11 ottobre
alle 15.30 nell’aula di musica. Abbiamo avuto un gruppo meraviglioso l’anno scorso, ci siamo esercitati
insieme e abbiamo ottenuto qualche performace davvero memorabile. Se volete condividere la gioia di
cantare con insegnanti e genitori, unitevi al coro questo venerdì, subito dopo scuola, per la prima sessione!
