Il Rotary e le Nuove Generazioni -­‐ Un’opportunità da non perdere L’attenzione verso le nuove Generazioni, (o Azione Giovanile secondo la nuova dizione adottata dal primo Luglio di quest’anno) riveste sempre più u n ruolo chiave nella nostra azione di servizio rotariana. Per questo motivo è bene ricordare i principi che sono alla base di questo interesse che il Rotary ha verso i giovani per poter meglio comprendere l’operato e la mission della omonima commissione distrettuale. In primo luogo per il Rotary fare service a favore delle Nuove Generazioni rientra in un’area di intervento del RI denominata “Pace e prevenzione – risoluzione di conflitti” uno degli obiettivi strategici inquadrati tra l’altro di recente nella Visione futura della Rotary Foundation. Quindi operare per i giovani ha come obiettivo per il Rotary il favorire lo sviluppo di una società più consapevole dei bisogni altrui e meno incline alla conflittualità. La seconda p riorità fondamentale che il nostro sodalizio persegue, in questa azione di coinvolgimento, è quello di trasmettere ai giovani i valori fondanti del nostro essere rotariano e che sono ben sintetizzati dai nostri “core values” amicizia, servizio, integrità, diversità, leadership per poter far si che vi sia u n domani un nuovo gruppo di giovani capaci di prendere il nostro testimone e sviluppare ancora di più il nostro sodalizio. La Commissione distrettuale Azione Giovanile pertanto, ispirandosi alle linee guida sopra tracciate, ha come obiettivo quello di aiutare i giovani ad allargare il loro respiro internazionale, la comprensione di usi, costumi, religioni diverse per aiutare a creare una Società migliore attraverso i programmi che il Rotary International ed il nostro Distretto h a pensato per loro. Distrettuale orienti i giovani soci de l Rotaract ad incontrare le principal i abilità relazionali , professionali ed organizzative richieste con forza dal mondo del lavoro di qualità . Come evidenziato nella tabella sopra citata ciascun programma ha come obiettivo una determinata fascia di età dei ragazzi e l’approfondmento di particolari valori o abilità. In un percorso ideale un giovane Attraverso lo Scambio Giovani del Rotary, essi esplorano nuove culture. In qualità di partecipanti al RYLA e al RYGHT, essi acquistano nuove doti che li aiuteranno ad avere successo come futuri cittadini e leader della comunità. Infine come Rotaractani ed Interactiani, essi offrono il loro servizio presso le comunità in cui vivono e all'estero. In tutto questo il ruolo del Rotary Club è assolutamente centrale e fondamentale per il coinvolgimento attivo dei giovani della propria comunità nei programmi della commissione. In particolare esso dovrà veicolare quei programmi che sono più vicini alle proprie caratteristiche e tradizioni e che meglio rispondono alle necessità del loro territorio in modo da aumentare, anche tramite essi, l’efficacia del proprio fare servizio. La Commissione è infine sempre a supporto del Club sia per veicolare al meglio la finalità legata al singolo programma che per il corretto coinvolgimento dei giovani agli stessi. Meanings to Rotary
RGHF Senior Historian Fred Carvin, PDG Author Paul Harris and the Birth of Rotary “It is my belief that the currents of Rotary have never been more deeply agitated than during the year 1923 and I’m certain that we have never made greater progress.” Paul Harris-­‐ The Rotarian Magazine -­‐ February, 1924. From Paul Harris’s standpoint, he had witnessed the birth of Rotary in 1905 as an opportunity to relive some of his rapscallion boyhood days and perhaps do some business with friends. Later, a long and hard struggle ensued when he asked Rotarians to forgo this original premise, convincing them the path to happiness came from freely giving back some of their success to the communities that had generated it. This ―service‖ concept was not readily accepted and had been the source of discord for many years. In 1923, roughly 19 years later, his creation developed a new set of guidelines that promised hope for the future. It defined itself in terms of noble ambitions and restated goals. Rotary placed service at the center of its existence. Yet this change did not transpire without controversy. The final transformation occurred at the June, 1923 International Convention held in St. Louis. There the issue of whether Rotary was to be run from the top-­‐down or the bottom-­‐up came to a head. Rotary International submitted a Resolution that every club in the association become involved with a project they were 5 promoting. This caused a backlash of dissent from clubs who felt it was their right to remain independent and chose their own course of actions. Both sides were ready for a fight. Leading the opposition to Rotary International’s Resolution 8 was the Chicago Club, who submitted Resolution 29. After a lively debate, the two groups compromised by passing Resolution 34 which stated ―Each individual Rotary Club has absolute autonomy in the selection of its objective activities. Rotary International may offer helpful suggestions to the clubs for the standardization of such objective activities…but there shall be no compulsion on the clubs nor shall any objective activities of any club be proscribed.‖ The Resolution continued saying, ―The development of general community service, in which Rotarians as individuals, exemplify good citizenship, and becoming actively identified with civic, charitable or philanthropic and commercial organizations of the community, is the goal of this section of the program.‖ This meant all clubs and Rotarians were free to determine what projects or in what manner their involvement with regards to service would take. Rotary International could not mandate programs, projects or participation by the clubs, without their approval. To help clubs understand what their new responsibilities were, the delegates created a set of principles to aid the clubs in their service endeavors. Among them was a policy that stated, ―A Rotary club in selecting an activity should seek neither publicity nor credit for itself but only the opportunity to serve.‖ For several decades this was the policy for Rotarian service. Today we might argue this antiquated opinion should be revised as the countless acts of humanitarian good should be recognized as part of Rotary’s legacy to the world. Paul Harris disse...........

FONDAZIONE ROTARY The Rotary Foundation Earns Coveted 4 -Star Rating
The Rotary Foundation earned a 4-­‐star rating from Charity Navigator, the largest and most prestigious independent evaluator of nonprofits in the United States. "Our foundation continues to operate at the highest ethical standard," said Rotary Foundation Trustee Chair John Kenny. "We are proud that Charity Navigator has recognized our commitment to accountability and transparency for the seventh straight year." The 4-­‐star rating, the highest that Charity Navigator awards, recognizes sound fiscal management, accountability, and transparency. Charity Navigator evaluates thousands of nonprofits each year, and only one of four earns 4 stars. This year's top distinction marks the Foundation's seventh in a row, placing it in the top 3 percent of U.S.-­‐based charities. In a letter to the Foundation, Charity Navigator President Ken Berger wrote, "This 'exceptional' designation differentiates The Rotary Foundation from its peers and demonstrates to the public it is worthy of their trust." About Charity Navigator Charity Navigator works to guide intelligent giving. By guiding intelligent giving, we aim to advance a more efficient and responsive philanthropic marketplace, in which givers and the charities they support work in tandem to overcome our nation’s and the world’s most persistent challenges. 6 Charity Navigator is America’s largest and most influential charity rater. We had over 6.2 million visits to our web site in 2012 alone and impact approximately $10 billion of charitable donations each year. This makes Charity Navigator far and away the largest and most utilized charity rating service that exists anywhere. Over the past few years Charity Navigator has been working to expand our rating system (which originally only considered Financial Health) with the ultimate goal of including what we believe are the three dimensions of a charity’s operations that a charitable givers/social investor needs to consider before donating to them: • Financial Health • Accountability & Transparency and • Results Reporting In 2011, we expanded our rating analysis to include dimension 2 (CN 2.0) -­‐ Accountability and Transparency. In January of 2013, we launched Charity Navigator’s newest rating dimension – what we call Results Reporting – which begins to address the final dimension of information we believe donors must consider to make a wise giving/social investment decision – the charity’s results reporting. By results we especially are interested in the outcomes of the work of the charity and whether these results are providing a social value (in other words, offering meaningful change in communities and peoples’ lives). Mission related results are the very reason that charities exist. Therefore, it is the most important dimension of all for our rating system and yet the hardest to measure due to the tremendous variation in the work that charities do as well as the lack of standardized public reporting on results by most charities. Lo spettacolo si intitola “I have a dream” ed è una libera interpretazione del celebre film “Mamma mia”.
