Situated at the Tuscan-Umbrian border in the Green Heard of Italy
The winery “I Girasoli di Sant’Andrea” (The
sunflowers of Sant’Andrea) was founded in
1994 by Count Carlo Massimiliano
Gritti, descendent of one of the
most important Venetian Noble
Families, the family of DOGE
ANDREA GRITTI 1453.
Carlo
Massimiliano
and his wife Ursula
have planted within
the years 40 hectares
of vineyard and 14
hectares of olive
trees as to the most
advanced agronomic
knowledge. The grape
varieties vary from the
typical Umbrian/Tuscan
grapes like Sangiovese,
Canaiolo, Ciliegiolo, Colorino
and Montepulciano to more
International grapes like Merlot,
Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Syrah
regarding the red wines.
The white wine is a nicely balanced blend of
Malvasia Bianca, Sauvignon Verde and Grechetto.
The area has a mild climate because of its
proximity to the Trasimeno lake and
the landscape is of fertile plains and
steep hills. The soils are of an
alluvial, workable clay with a
moderate lime content.
Over centuries the tradition
of the Gritti Family has
been commitment to
quality and this motto
is applied in their wine
and
oil
production.
Under the supervision of
Dr. Riccardo Cotarella,
Master of Wine and his
most professional team, the
wines are looked after from the
moment of pruning throughout
the whole year until the creation of the
single wines.
