about Formentera
Formentera is the smallest and most southerly of the
Balearic Archipelago. It is 19 km long and lies three nautical
miles south of Ibiza, with which it forms the ‘Islas Pitiusas’
(Pine Islands).
This is a rural and unspoilt island.The way of life is friendly,
unhurried and easy going; the wonderful colours of sunrise
and sunset, the spectacular changing light, the sweet scent
of the cool pine, rosemary and thyme and the infinite
shades of blue given off by the clear, warm sea as it laps the
soft, sandy beaches make the island an ideal retreat for a
relaxing holiday.
Formentera enjoys a perfect Mediterranean climate: fine
and delicate in Spring - explosive and bright in Summer with
a cooling breeze which makes the tanning sun easy to take
- mild and gentle in Autumn and temperate in the Winter.

The fascinating journey of 11 miles from Ibiza harbour to
Formentera takes half an hour on one of the fast
catamarans. After leaving the coastline of Ibiza and sailing
through a constellation of islets, lighthouses and watch
towers, the ferry passes the island of Espalmador with its
wide expanse of beach and sheltered anchorage.
The port of arrival is La Savina nestling between the two
large natural lakes of Estany Pudent and Estany d`es Peix.
Here along the palm - fringed waterfront are shops, bars
and restaurants overlooking the marina where you can
while away the hours sampling some of the delicious, fresh
and wholesome local dishes and watching the fishing boats,
yachts and ferries sailing in and out of the harbour.
In the south west of the island, watching over the
impressive cliffs of a wild, imposing peninsular and amongst
fields surrounded by natural stone walls stands the majestic
lighthouse of the Cap de Barbaria.
The La Molina lighthouse dominates the fertile plateau of
La Mola which lies to the east of the island. Spectacular
views of Formentera and distant Ibiza can be enjoyed from
the road winding up to the village of El Pilar. This is the
home of farming folk who grow crops and tend their
vineyards in the traditional way. As artists and craftsmen
sell their creations, musicians play in the market held every
Sunday in the village.
The unassuming capital of Formentera is San Francisco
which serves as the commercial and cultural focus of the
island, bustling by day but peaceful at night except during
the fiestas held in the summer when music, dancing and
spectacular fireworks bring the island folk together for
their time-honoured celebrations.There is a good selection
of shops, restaurants and open air cafes tucked away in
quiet corners or around the old fortified church of this
charming town.
San Fernando is a special village which is the home of the
legendary tavern known as Fonda Pepe. Here a friendly
atmosphere is generated from a mixture of ages,
nationalities and a blend of cultures as locals and visitors
gather to talk until the early hours.

island activities
The sea around the island abounds in a rich variety of
marine life.The diving centre,VELLMARI, offers a range of
high quality diving courses for beginners to experts. All
equipment can be provided and qualified English speaking
instructors look after you in a friendly and professional
way.Activities include: Marine Biology courses, night, wreck
dives and underwater photography.All certificates awarded
are internationally recognised.
The San Francisco Tennis Club welcomes guests, and
tournaments are held regularly. The Club has two hard
surface courts which are floodlit to enable play in the
cooler air of a summer’s evening. Equipment can be rented
from the club.
The island is an ideal base for sailing and windsurfing with
sheltered bays, an inland lake and open seas offering a wide
variety of sailing conditions.
The WET 4 FUN Water Sports School on the beach of
Es Pujols offers windsurfing courses under expert instruction
using a wide range of boards for all levels of ability.
They also have dinghies and a fleet of Top Cat catamarans
for sailing enthusiasts. A special boat for parasailing gives
you the ultimate waterborne experience.

Saona Horses just outside San Francisco have a wide
range of horses on which to trek into the countryside.
They are quiet and calm and are well suited for novices and
experts. Chris will arrange any type of ride and provide
instruction as required. His programme of hacks takes you
along beaches, through woodland and across the salt flats.
Adjacent to the stables is a large riding and jumping area.
Other activities organised include: picnics, sunset and
moonlight rides and barbeques.
With Formentera’s characteristics of few hills and a
comprehensive network of paths and tracks, the ideal way
to explore the island is by bicycle. This enables you to
peacefully visit areas which would otherwise pass unseen.
Car and scooter hire is also available through our office in
Es Pujols.There is a bus service on the island and a regular
ferry service to Ibiza and to the beautiful nearby island of
Espalmador, both departing from La Savina.
It is possible to enjoy many forms of music on the island,
either provided by local musicians or by visiting groups
and bands.
Several concerts are held each year and music plays a large
part in celebrating the many fiestas. In the summer it is
possible to enjoy flamenco, classical guitar and piano,
choirs, rock and blues groups, Catalan music and jazz bands.
The atmosphere generated by this unique blend of music
and tradition is a magical experience.
The island offers good conditions for running along coastal
and country tracks or quiet paths.
There are some lovely walks on the old Roman road
climbing up La Mola from Es Calo or easier terrain through
the pine groves which cover a large part of the island.
Formentera offers the opportunity to discover solitary
coves, explore hidden caves and stroll along ancient paths
leading to windmills and watch towers.
The island provides a challenge for artists and
photographers to try to capture some aspect of the
landscape - the fig and pine trees, fields, plants, or a rustic
farmhouse. The colours and light are brilliant, defying
reproduction, but inspire the effort of attempting to do so.
I am delighted to say that we now have a superb collection
of oil paintings, water colours and photographs gracing the
walls of our office, sent to us by talented guests.
A Board of Environment has been established to control all
ecological matters on Formentera.
The geology, flora and fauna are so unique that much of the
island has been declared a Natural Area of Special Interest
and is protected by National Park laws.
The island provides an important resting point in Southern
Europe for migrating birds. Flamingoes once nested near
the waters of the lakes which are the home of a wide
variety of species including falcons, seagulls, plovers,
herons, cormorants and the little black-necked zampullin.
The Patronat Municipal de Turisme is an Association
established to safeguard the quality of the island whilst
helping the visitor to enjoy its natural beauty. They have
produced a brochure with information about a whole
series of by-ways called Green Tours.They can be followed
on bicycle or by foot making it possible for you to admire
landscapes of sky and sea and enjoy a close contact with
nature in the beautiful countryside.
We are proud to be the only UK member of this
organisation dedicated to preserving this unique island
paradise.

There are many magnificent beaches on Formentera where it is possible to sunbathe and relax in the
warm sunshine.
Several proudly fly the coveted Blue Flag, highlighting the cleanliness and clarity of the sea.The island
is surrounded by crystal clear waters giving excellent underwater visibility.
This unspoilt white-sanded paradise, with pastoral landscapes where wild flowers and rosemary bloom
in abundance, is a haven for those who enjoy a tranquil atmosphere where time is of no consequence
and the need for peace is paramount.

Playa Illetes is a long sweep of sand where the lapping of the
sea deposits a pink coral coating and the waters offer an endless
range of blues and greens as they flow to meet the horizon.

Playa Llevant reaches from
Espalmador to Es Pujols. It is
a very quiet beach, ideal for
naturists and those who like
to have a secluded beach to
themselves.

Cala Saona is a sandy bay framed by tall rocks. Should you
decide to spend your sunshine hours here, there are several
good restaurants to tempt you with their local fresh seafood
recipes. To the north of Cala Saona the coast is rocky but
provides excellent sunbathing platforms and easy access to the
sea for the superb fishing, snorkelling and diving conditions
which prevail in the absence of a sandy shore.
Es Calo has a beautiful sandy beach to be found
beyond a harbour which was once used by the
ancient Romans. Here, Miguel and Maria have their
welcoming beach bar for cool refreshments.

Playa Migjorn extends for 5 km along the south of the island
and is perfect for those wanting to soak up the sun in private.
This beautiful coast is characterised by long stretches of soft
white sand alternating with smaller more secluded bays. Here
you will find beach bars and restaurants where you can relax
during the day and dine watching beautiful sunsets.

generale dei servizi. Decisamente adatto per famiglie con bambini e per
coppie che prediligono un soggiorno prettamente balneare.
Caratteristiche: struttura costituita da caratteristici bungalow in muratura dall’architettura mediterranea, dislocati su un’ampia superficie digradante verso il mare e abbellita
da curate aree verdi. Il complesso si affaccia sulla splendida Playa Mitjorn, lunga spiaggia

Offrono un arredamento semplice e servizi essenziali. La maggior parte delle sistemazioni sono dislocate nelle località di Mijorn ed Es Pujols, a diverse distanza dal centro e dal
