L’evoluzione di un progetto che continua nel tempo
Fra nuove collaborazioni creative e sviluppi
di percorsi progettuali che continuano nel
tempo, la collezione Pallucco continua a
crescere e ad evolversi, con il contributo
di Enrico Franzolini come art director.
Una realtà italiana che dagli anni ‘80 al
presente, è un punto di riferimento nel mondo
dell’illuminazione. Nascono così le nuove
versioni di prodotti che hanno fatto la storia
del design recente. Papiro di Sergio Calatroni,
lampada emblema della leggerezza formale
e del segno caratterizzante, oggi anche nella
variante con illuminazione a Led. Gilda di
Enrico Franzolini, fra le icone della collezione
Pallucco, con un nuovo cavalletto nero opaco.
Faro Next, evoluzione del progetto originale
di Hannes Wettstein, ora con nuovo tripode
in legno, nuove finiture e disponibile anche
in versione Led. Pallucco inaugura inoltre la
collaborazione con Brian Rasmussen, designer
e architetto danese che da tempo opera a
Venezia, presentando Grid e Ring: due lampade
a sospensione eleganti e sofisticate, in cui
lo spirito nordico incontra lo stile italiano.
Novità anche per il mondo del contract con
Alexandra Long, un’estensione del progetto
di Enrico Franzolini presentato lo scorso anno,
importante e discreta allo stesso tempo,
ideale per gli ambienti collettivi.

The endless evolution of a long lasting style
Pallucco is an Italian company that
has been standing as a benchmark in
the world of lighting since the 80’s.
The Pallucco collection keeps on growing
and boosting long lasting design styles
through new creative partnerships
and thanks to the art director Enrico
Franzolini. The results are new versions
of products which hallmarked the recent
history of design. Sergio Calatroni’s
Papiro – a lamp emblem of shape levity
and distinguishing drawing – today
also in its Led lighting version.

Anelli ovunque. L’interno della
lampada ha un nucleo magnetico che ha
attirato a se tutti gli anelli circostanti.
Il magnetismo è talmente forte che gli
anelli fanno di tutto per avvicinarsi il più
possibile al centro dell’installazione.
Per stare il più vicino possibile tra di
loro si sono messi a seguire una logica
geometrica che sembra ottimizzare lo
spazio disponibile. Possiamo ingrandire
la lampada quanto vogliamo, gli anelli
copriranno comunque tutta la superficie
con il loro pattern geometrico. Ring è
un progetto di lampade a sospensione
che comprende due versioni con
struttura singola da 600 mm e 800 mm
di diametro e una versione più grande
“Mix” composta da strutture di diversi
diametri. Sono anche possibili versioni
personalizzate su disegno del cliente.
Gli anelli dei diffusori sono in PVC nelle
finiture bianco, bianco e oro, nero
e oro (altri colori su richiesta).
La griglia, frangiluce, non ne
poteva più. Era da una vita che stava
appesa la, immobile, rigida, ferma.
Anche lei voleva provare la sensazione
di essere considerata un elemento
decorativo invece di essere solo una
mera necessità tecnica e funzionale.
Cosi, una notte, quando nessuno era
presente, si è lasciata andare e,
con l’aiuto della gravità, ha creato
una forma nuova. Il tutto tenuto
insieme da una sua cara amica:
la cupola. Nasce così Grid, una
lampada a sospensione semisferica in
metallo verniciato a polveri epossidiche.
Disponibile in due varianti, bianco e
nero opaco, entrambe dotate di una
griglia ∕ diffusore in forex bianco.
The anti–glare grid could stand it no longer. It has been
hanging there for a lifetime – motionless, firm, still.
Since the grid was looking for the sensation of being
a decorative element instead of a mere technical
and functional requirement too, a night when no one
was around, it let it go and, helped by the gravity force,
created a new shape. The whole structure was
kept together by a dear friend of its: the cupola.
This is how Grid was born: a hemispherical pendant
lamp in epoxy powders varnished metal. Available in
two versions, matt black and white, both with a
grid ∕ diffuser in white forex.
Only rings. The inside of the lamp has a magnetic
core which draws to itself all the surrounding rings.
The magnetism is so strong that the rings get as close
as they can to the core of the installation. To stand
as much as possible by one another, they have been
following a geometric logic which seems to optimise the
available space. We can enlarge the lamp as much as
we want to, but the rings will anyway cover the whole
surface with their geometric pattern. Ring is a family
of pendant lamps which comprises two versions,
“single” with diameter of 600 mm or 800 mm,
and ‘Mix’, a bigger version made of structures with
different diameters. The rings of the diffusers are
Pvc–made for the white, white and gold, black
and gold finishes. The project of the lamps is suitable
to personalization, different dimensions and colours
can be realized on request.

Il designer elvetico Hannes Wettstein
ha lasciato un segno importante nella
cultura contemporanea del progetto.
Fra le sue creazioni la lampada Faro,
presentata nel 2000, è stata uno
dei grandi successi di Pallucco.
Oggi, sempre grazie all’incontro
con lo Studio Hannes Wettstein, Faro
si presenta ulteriormente ripensata.
Il paralume, dall’inconfondibile forma
ciclistica, non è più sostenuto da
un’asta metallica, ma da un treppiede
in rovere tornito, con finitura laccata
che ne lascia intravedere le venature,
creando un contrasto fra il legno e
il metallo. Il paralume può essere
orientato per proiettare una luce
diretta o diffusa, di intensità regolabile,
con sorgente luminosa alogena o Led.
Tre le versioni cromatiche: tutta nera,
bianca, oppure con paralume bianco
o nero e treppiede laccato naturale.
Fra i “long seller” della collezione
Pallucco, la lampada Papiro occupa un
posto da protagonista. Progettata nel
1989 da Sergio Calatroni, personalità
eclettica fra arte, design, architettura
e web, Papiro si distingue per la
sua capacità di essere modellata a
piacimento, come una presenza sottile,
organica e sinuosa, a metà fra lampada
e scultura domestica. La nuova versione
Papiro Led unisce al fascino artistico
di questo progetto, l’efficienza di una
tecnologia a basso consumo energetico
ed a elevato potere illuminante.
Rispetto alla versione con lampadina
alogena, la base e il paralume metallici
di Papiro Led sono lievemente più
grandi, mentre rimane l’inconfondibile
stelo in rame naturale o con finitura
bianco, nickel nero lucido, nickel
cromo, oro perlato.
Among the long sellers of Pallucco’s collection,
the Papiro lamp holds a leading position. Designed
in 1989 by Sergio Calatroni, eclectic personality in
the fields of art, design, architecture and the web,
Papiro stands out for its possibility to be shaped at will,
as subtle, organic, and curvy presence, halfway between
a lamp and a household sculpture. The new Papiro
Led brings together the artistic charm of its design
and the efficiency of a low energy consumption
technology with high lighting power. The metal base and
lampshade of Papiro Led are slightly bigger than those
of the halogen version, whereas the unique natural
copper stem, or else with black, glossy black nickel,
chrome–nickel, pearly gold finish, remains unchanged.
The Swiss designer Hannes Wettstein has deeply
marked the contemporary culture of design.
Among his creations, the Faro lamp, launched in 2000,
has been one of Pallucco’s great successes.
Again in partnership with Hannes Wettstein Studio,
Faro has now been further developed. The lampshade,
with its unique cycling shape, is not mounted anymore
on a metallic shaft but on a turned oak tripod with
lacquered finish that allows glimpses of veining,
so creating a contrast between the wood and the metal.
The lampshade can be set to cast some direct or soft
light, of adjustable intensity, with halogen or Led
lighting source. Three chromatic versions: total black,
total white, or else with black or white lampshade
and natural finish tripod.

Enrico Franzolini nel 1997, la lampada
Gilda si distingue per il grande paralume
in tessuto, sospeso su un treppiede
regolabile, ispirato agli strumenti
dei fotografi professionisti. L’utilizzo
di svariati materiali per il paralume,
corrisponde a svariate emozionalità
tattili, visive e luminose: dalla carta
pergamena sintetica, in colore bianco o
avorio, alla juta bianca, nera o naturale,
al tessuto Plissè Pongè in poliestere,
nei colori bianco, avorio e rosso.
Nel 2016 nasce una nuova variante
di Gilda: ancora più prestigiosa nella
tecnologia, con treppiede disponibile
anche in finitura nero opaco, utilizzabile
con tutti i paralumi, sia nella variante
alogena che con lampadine Led.
Nella storia del design sono pochi
i progetti capaci di prestarsi a
interpretazioni sempre nuove,
mantenendo un’inconfondibile
personalità. È il caso della lampada
Fortuny, creata nel 1907 dall’artista,
scenografo e imprenditore tessile
veneziano Mariano Fortuny, sovvertendo
i canoni estetici e illuminotenici
dell’epoca. Riproposta negli anni da
Pallucco sia nella versione originale,
nata per creare un’illuminazione diffusa,
sia in molteplici riedizioni che esplorano
l’universo dei tessuti e del fashion
design, Fortuny si presenta in una veste
ulteriore, creata con stoffe artigianali
della famosa tessitura Rubelli.
Un “black dress” esterno in tessuto
James Dean, con texture semilucida
simile alla raffia, abbinato a un interno
in lino laminato con fili di bronzo,
che mantiene l’effetto di luce riflessa,
ma al tempo stesso sorprende con
la sua tonalità scura.
Created by the designer and architect Enrico Franzolini
in 1997, Gilda lamp stands out for its generous fabric
lampshade, mounted on an adjustable tripod inspired
by professional photographers’ devices. Thanks to
the generous variety of material from synthetic
parchment paper in white or ivory, through natural,
black, and white jute, to polyester Plissé Pongé fabric
in red, ivory, or white, different chromatic effects and
visual and tactile sensations can be achieved.
In 2016 Pallucco has presented a new variant of Gilda:
even more technologically prestigious, available now
also with a matt black finished tripod, usable with all
lampshades both in the halogen variant and the Led one.
There are very few designs in design history that are
suited to always new interpretations while retaining
a distinctive personality. One example is the Fortuny
lamp created in 1907 by the Venetian textiles trader,
stage designer and artist Mariano Fortuny, overturning
the technical lighting and aesthetic rules of the time.
Reintroduced over the years by Pallucco both in the
original version, intended to create diffused lighting,
and in many new versions which explore the world of
fabrics and fashion design, Fortuny appears in another
outfit created with artisan fabrics from the famous
textiles company Rubelli. An outer “black dress”
in James Dean fabric with a semi–shiny texture
similar to raffia, matched with a lining in laminated linen
with bronze threads, which maintains the reflected light
effect yet at the same time is surprising in its dark
colour.

Un progetto che recupera un’antica
tecnica artigianale, la soffiatura del
vetro in gabbia, per creare un oggetto
luminoso, ambrato e organico, come
un bozzolo appoggiato o sospeso
nell’ambiente. La soffiatura dona
al vetro lievi irregolarità nella forma
e minuscole bolle d’aria che sembrano
fluttuare nella materia, rendendo
unica ogni singola realizzazione.
La struttura metallica a vista, con il
suo gioco grafico, dona a questa
lampada una forte personalità anche
quando è spenta.
Una famiglia di lampade che
esplora nuove sensazioni luminose,
sperimentando l’utilizzo di una maglia
metallica in due diverse finiture acciaio
e bronzo. I paralumi dalla forma
estremamente lineare, così rivestiti
risultano avvolgenti e assumono
un valore architettonico oltre che
d’arredo. La sorgente luminosa si
intravede dall’esterno, ma senza
abbagliare lo sguardo, mentre la luce
si diffonde nell’ambiente e accende
riflessi preziosi sulla trama metallica.
A family of lamps which explores new light sensations,
experimenting the use of a metal mesh in two different
finishes of steel and bronze. The shades with their
strongly linear shape, covered in this way, appear to
envelop the lamp and take on an architectural as well
as an interior design value. The light bulb can be seen
from the outside yet without dazzling, while the light
is diffused in the room and lights up precious glints
on the braided metal.
A design which brings back an ancient craft technique,
that of the glass blowing in a cage, to create a luminous,
ambered and organic object like a cocoon standing or
suspended in the room. The blowing gives the glass
slight irregularities in the shape and tiny bubbles
of air which appear to float in the material, making each
single creation unique. The exposed metal structure,
with its graphic play, gives this lamp a strong
personality even when switched off.

Le lampade in vetro della tradizione
veneziana, le rigorose geometrie di
Piet Mondrian e le aeree composizioni
di Alexander Calder: queste le
ispirazioni da cui è nata Alexandra,
un nuovo concetto di lampada creata
attraverso la sovrapposizione di fogli
sottili in vetroresina, per dare forma
a un’emozione luminosa fatta di
leggerezza e trasparenza. Alexandra
Long estende questo progetto al mondo
del contract, ampliando le dimensioni
dei fogli in vetroresina per costruire
una lampada importante nella presenza
scenografica, eppure sempre leggiadra
ed aerea. Una variante particolarmente
adatta agli ambienti di ampie
dimensioni: come la hall di un hotel
o di un residence, una sala meeting
o un ristorante.
The glass lamps of the Venetian tradition,
Piet Mondrian’s strict geometry and Alexander
Calder’s airy compositions: these the inspirations
for Alexandra, a new concept of lamp made by
overlapping thin fibreglass sheets to shape a luminous
emotion – one of weightlessness and transparency.
Alexandra Long extends this project to the world of
contract by increasing the size of fibreglass sheets to
make a lamp notable for its impressiveness yet ever
graceful and airy. A variant particularly suitable for
large venues such as hotel or residence halls,
meeting rooms or restaurants.

Brian Rasmussen
Brian Rasmussen è nato a Ringsted
(Danimarca) nel 1973. Si laurea alla
“Royal Academy of Architecture”
di Copenhaghen nel 2000. Nel primo
anno di studio vince il concorso
nazionale “Prisopgave København”
(Danimarca) con il progetto futuristico
di una stazione della metropolitana.
Nel 2002 vince il secondo premio
del concorso nazionale “Cristiano
D. Iv´S Bryghus” e decide di aprire il
suo studio d’architettura e design a
Venezia. Nel 2004 vince il concorso
internazionale d’arte “Targetti Light
Art Award” che si trasforma in un
punto di partenza per la sua carriera
come progettista d’illuminazione.
Nel periodo tra il 2004 ed il 2006
progetta e sviluppa un lampione per
la città di Ringsted, Danimarca, in
collaborazione con Louis Poulsen
Lighting. Dal 2011 svolge il ruolo di
Direttore Artistico per Light4.
Brian Rasmussen was born in Ringsted
(Denmark) in 1973. He graduates at
The Royal Academy of Architecture
in Copenhagen in 2000. As a first
year student he wons the national
student competition “Prisopgave
København”(Denmark) with a project
for a futuristic metro station.
In 2002 he wons the second price
in the national architecture competition
“Christian D.IV’s Bryghus” and
decides to open his own office of
architecture and design in Venice,
Italy. In 2004 he wins the international
art competition Targetti Light Art
Award which becomes a starting point
for his career as lighting designer.
From 2004 – 2006 he designs and
develops a streetlamp for the city
Ringsted, Denmark in collaboration
with Louis Poulsen Lighting. From
2011 is in charge of RandD in Light4.

Sergio Calatroni nasce a Pavia
nel 1951. Vive e lavora a Milano.
Ha frequentato l’Accademia di Belle
Arti di Brera a Milano specializzandosi
in scenografia. Lavora dal 1975 nel
campo dell’architettura, industrial
design, interior design, grafica,
corporate image, direzione creativa,
comunicazione e giornalismo.
Ha curato regie di sfilate di moda
e allestimenti per Luciano Soprani,
GFT, Carshoe, Trussardi, Mario
Buccellati, Hanae Mori ed altri.

Sergio Calatroni was born in Pavia,
Italy in 1951. He lives and works in
Milan and Tokyo. He attended the
“Accademia di Belle Arti” of Brera in
Milan, specializing in set design.
Since 1975 he has worked in the
field of architecture, industrial
design, interior design, graphics,
corporate image, creative direction,
communications and journalism.
He oversaw the artistic direction
of fashion shows and installations
for: Luciano Soprani, GFT, Carshoe,
Trussardi, Mario Buccellati, Hanae
Mori, etc. – of graphics and
communications for: Fausto Santini,
Alfa Romeo, Issey Miyake, Marina
Spadafora, Shiseido, Carshoe,

Award of the Japanese Ministry of
Commerce and the prize Packaging
Design Biennal in Japan. From 1996
to 1998 Sergio Calatroni has been
a visiting professor of Museology at
Tokyo University. He has also been
a professor of Architecture at the
European Design Institute in Milan.
From 2000 to 2003 he has been the
creative director of Stephanemarais_
∕ Shiseido, Paris. In 2003 he received
the “ Good Design Award”,
the “Category’s Award”, of the
Japanease Ministry of Commerce
and the “2003 London International
Advertising Award”(LIAA). He works
with many leading magazines of
architecture, design, art and fashion,
in Italy and abroad. Since 2004,
he has been teaching at Accademia di
Belle Arti di Brera, Milan (N.A.B.A.)

Architetto, compie gli studi universitari
a Firenze e Venezia dove si laurea
nel 1979. La passione e le ricerche
artistiche giovanili si concretizzano in
numerose partecipazioni ad esposizioni
personali e collettive, a partire da una
presenza alla Biennale del 1972, nella
sezione arti decorative. Parallelamente
alla ricerca pittorica si sviluppa il suo
impegno nei campi dell’architettura
e del disegno industriale. Il suo
studio, aperto ad Udine nel 1981,
affronta temi progettuali molto
differenti per scala ed oggetto ma
connotati da un metodo e da una
coerenza riconoscibili. Numerosi sono
i progetti di architettura realizzati
e pubblicati mentre nell’ambito del
disegno industriale ha avuto modo di
collaborare negli anni con alcune delle
più prestigiose aziende nel settore del
mobile e dell’illuminazione quali Alias,
Cappellini, De Padova, Foscarini,
Knoll International, Moroso.
He is an architect, and studied
in Florence and Venice where he
graduated in 1979. His passion and
early artistic research resulted into
many participations to personal and
group exhibitions beginning from the
Biennale of 1972, in the decorative
arts section. He developed his
commitment to architecture and
industrial interior design besides
pictorial research. His studio, opened
in Udine in 1981, dealt with design
themes very different in scale
and subject though marked by a
distinguishable method and shared
consistency. He carried out and
published a lot of architectural projects
whereas, in the field of industrial
design, he been working in partnership
for years with some of the most
prestigious companies in the furniture
and lighting industry such as Alias,
Mariano Fortuny, nacque da una
famiglia di rinomati artisti a Granada,
in Spagna, l’11 maggio 1871.
Si trasferì con la madre e la sorella
a Parigi, ove prese lezioni di pittura
con Benjamin Constant e di scultura
nell’atelier di Rodin. Fu nella capitale
transalpina che si rivelò il suo talento
artistico. Nel 1889 si trasferì a
Venezia ove rimase per il resto della
sua carriera artistica, nonostante
i frequenti viaggi all’estero. Fin da
adolescente, Mariano era animato da
un’industriosa creatività, che lo rese
prolifico in diverse discipline artistiche:
pittore, incisore, rilegatore, scultore,
fotografo, architetto e inventore.
La moderna definizione di “artista”
non è abbastanza esauriente per
descriverlo adeguatamente: realizzava
da solo i propri colori e tinture,
e fabbricava i pennelli coi quali
soleva dipingere. Con la “cupola
Fortuny” rivoluzionò l’illuminazione
scenica e la scenografia teatrale,
mettendo a frutto le proprie teorie
sulla luce indiretta e diffusa.
Nel 1897, a Parigi, Fortuny incontrò
la sua musa, Henriette Negrin che
nel 1902, si trasferì a Venezia,
a Palazzo Orfei, nella sua casa–atelier.
Il supporto incondizionato di Henriette
fu fondamentale per la fioritura artistica
di Mariano, che fece il suo ingresso
anche nel mondo della moda nel 1907
con il Delphos, un abito in finissimo
plissé di seta e perle di vetro.
Fortuny coltivò la propria
intramontabile passione per le belle
arti ed il design fino alla morte,
che lo colse nella sua dimora
veneziana il 2 maggio 1949.
Mariano Fortuny was born in Granada
(Spain) on May 11th 1871, into a
family of renowned artists. He moved
to Paris with his mother and sister,
where he took painting lessons with
Benjamin Constant and sculpture
lessons in Rodin’s studio. He revealed
his artistic talent in the transalpine
capital. He moved to Venice in
1889, where he spent the rest of his
artistic career, despite frequent trips
abroad. As a teenager, Mariano was
inspired by an industrious creativity
which made him a prolific painter,
engraver, bookbinder, sculptor,

photographer, architect and inventor.
The contemporary definition for ‘artist’
wouldn’t describe him appropriately:
he made himself colours, dyes, and
the brushes which he used to paint
with. With the ‘Fortuny cupola’ he
transformed stage lighting and theatre
scenographic artistry by exploiting
his theories on indirect and soft light.
In Paris during 1897, Fortuny met his
muse, Henriette Negrin, who moved
to Venice, in his studio–house at
Palazzo Orfei. Henriette’s unconditional
support proved fundamental to
Mariano’s artistic flowering, who also
entered the world of fashion in 1907
with the Delphos, a dress in fine
pleated silk and glass beads.
Fortuny developed his everlasting
passion for fine arts and design
until his death, which took him in his
Venetian home on May 2nd, 1949.
