Benvenuti a bordo.
Come vedrete, quello che avete
tra le mani non è un catalogo ma
un magalog, una via di mezzo tra
un puro catalogo e un magazine.
E’ uno strumento di relazione, che
conduce a un’immersione nella nostra
comune passione per la vela e il mare.
E non si limita a una presentazione
di capi. Ha un titolo: I AM. Una sintesi
di forte identificazione tra il brand
e la persona. Ma facciamo un passo
indietro. Quando si è trattato
di costruire una rinnovata piattaforma
del valore e la nuova corporate
identity per Slam, il punto di partenza
non poteva che essere quello
di formare la squadra coi migliori
consulenti, i quali - grazie alla visione
e alla profonda conoscenza del settore
- hanno tracciato la nuova piattaforma
valoriale del marchio, che si può
riassumere nei tre pilastri della
brand identity:

L’essenziale era restare saldamente
ancorati allo spirito del brand
- profondamente e orgogliosamente
genovese - vale a dire la capacità
di creare un’identità pertinente,
unica e propria. Comprendere l’intero
percorso dell’atleta, dell’appassionato
e del simpatizzante, per anticipare
le esigenze future.
Ovviamente, con una scalabilità
integrata che si adatti a un mondo
dinamico e in continua evoluzione.

Abbiamo appena virato!
Quando il vento gira, regoliamo le
vele. Ecco cosa abbiamo fatto in Slam.
Una nuova proprietà, nuovi
managers, nuove idee ma una sola
visione: rendere questo marchio
partner della vita dei velisti, in tutto
il mondo. Da Genova, dalle nostre
origini; dalla vela vera, quella
Olimpica; dallo stile inconfondibile
della nostra Italia.
E il 2017 è iniziato con una strambata
importante: una nuova brand
identity, nuovo logo, nuova immagine.
E la risposta entusiastica che
abbiamo ricevuto a Pitti Uomo
a Gennaio ci ha incoraggiato.
Ancora di più ci ha stimolato il coro
di elogi per i prodotti presentati.
Una nuova collezione tecnica che vede
la luce con cerate prodotte con
tessuti super performanti
(grazie Toray), un primo strato
che aiuta a
tenerci caldi
o freschi
a seconda della
situazione (grazie
NILIT) ed una
scarpa tecnica
declinata anche
in versione
sportiva, prodotta
in collaborazione
con Vibram,
Paolo Troffa
il leader mondiale
delle suole. Grip
senza fine sul ponte bagnato ma belle
anche a passeggio in piazzetta.
Sull’onda della collezione
tecnica poi, una capsula che ci
proietta verso il futuro di Slam:
BeLeave. Tessuti mutuati dal
tecnico ma ammantati di design
e stile italiano, una “mano” morbida
per capi destinati a durare.
L’ispirazione sono i capi iconici
del mare, Peacoat, Montgomery,
Sailing jacket. Il giro di boa è qui.
Lasciamo qualcosa per credere
nel futuro, per credere in noi stessi
ma, sopratutto, nei nostri clienti.
Quelli che ci seguono da sempre,
quelli che si aspettano da noi
novità, innovazione, performance,
stile. Investiamo a lungo termine,

venuti ma con lo sguardo teso

As you can see, what you have
in your hands is not a catalogue
but a magalog, a cross between
a pure catalogue and a magazine.
It is a relational tool, giving full access
to our shared passion for sailing
and the sea. And it does more than
just present our clothing.
It has a title: I AM.
The synthesis of strong identification
between the brand and the person.
But let’s step backwards a moment.
When we decided to rebuild a platform
of values and a new corporate identity
for Slam, our obvious starting point
just had to be the creation of a team
with the best consultants,
who, thanks to their vision
and in-depth knowledge of the sector,
have designed our brand’s
new platform of values, which
can be summarised in the three
brand identity columns:

Knowledge
Performance
It was essential to remain firmly
anchored to the brand’s
deeply and proudly Genoese
spirit, in other words
to create a pertinent, unique,
signature identity. Understanding all
about the athletes, enthusiasts
and fans, in order to anticipate all their
future needs. All this, obviously, with an
integrated scalability that adapts to a
dynamic ever-changing world.
The race has only just started, and
we are joined on board by Adoratorio,

We’ve only just tacked!
When the wind changes, you trim
the sails. This is exactly what we’ve
done at Slam. New ownership, new
managers, new ideas. But just one
vision: to become the partner brand for
those who sail, all over the world. From
Genoa, from our origins; from real,
Olympic sailing; from the unmistakable
style of our Italy. We brought 2017 in
with an important tack: a new brand
identity, new logo and new image.
The enthusiastic feedback we got
at Pitti Uomo in January was all the
encouragement we needed. We were
even more stimulated by the chorus of
praise we received for the products we
showcased. A new technical collection
that sees the light with waxed articles
made in super-performing textiles
(thanks Toray), with a first layer that
keeps us warm or cool depending
on the situation (thanks NILIT) and
a technical shoe that also comes
in a sporting version, produced in
collaboration with Vibram, the world’s
leading sole manufacturer. Unlimited
grip on wet decks and good-looking
enough for a walk through the square.
On the wave of the technical collection
comes a capsule that takes us into
the future of Slam: BeLeave. Fabrics
changed by technology yet packed
with design and Italian style, a soft
handle for garments made to last.
Inspiration comes from icon articles
for the sea, Peacoat, Montgomery
and Sailor
jacket. This
is where
we change
direction.
Some things we
leave behind in
order to believe
in the future,

ourselves but,
above all, in

Sono maestro d’ascia, lavoro
sulle barche in legno, faccio
manutenzione, riparazione,
incollaggi, verniciature. Sto tante
ore da solo con le mani su queste
creature del mare, è un grande
privilegio per me. Quando posso
faccio anche regate,
perché amo il vento.
Soprattutto la Bora: quando arriva
non chiede il permesso a nessuno.
Fischia, entra nelle calli,
e anche dentro le ossa.

I am a master shipwright, I work
on wooden boats, carrying out
maintenance, repairs, gluing
and painting. I spend hours
and hours on my own with my
hands on these creatures of the
sea, a great privilege for me.
When I can, I also take part in
regattas because I love the wind.
Especially the Bora, which never
asks anyone’s permission to blow.

La leggenda narra che sono stato
concepito in barca.
Non so se sia vero, ma di sicuro
il mare oggi è la cosa che amo
di più. Non riuscirei a vivere senza
l’acqua. Dormire di notte in barca,
sentire il sartiame che sbatte
contro l’albero, farsi cullare dallo
sciabordìo… sono cose
che non si possono raccontare.
A me la vela regala una grande
libertà: mi piace pensare
che potrei partire oggi e andare
dall’altra parte del mondo
senza fermarmi mai…

Legend has it that I was conceived
on a boat. I don’t know if this is true,
but the sea is definitely the thing
I love most today. I couldn’t live
without the water. Sleeping
on a boat at night, hearing
the halyards knocking against
the mast, rocked by the lapping

La mia vera professione
è fare la veterinaria,
ma da quando ho scoperto la vela,
non riesco a pensare ad altro.
Non vedo l’ora che sia primavera
per riprendere ad andare.
Il mio ruolo in barca è il drizzista,
quello che regola l’issata
e l’ammainata e mette
in comunicazione poppa e prua.
Ma soprattutto quello
che si prende sempre
tutte le colpe: dovrebbe avere
mille mani… e non sbagliare mai!

non esserci?
We had
to be there!
SLAM taglia il traguardo
insieme ai fratelli BeNussi.
Noi di SLAM non siamo andati alla
Barcolana per vincere, ma quando è
successo ci siamo emozionati come
bambini. La barca di Furio e Gabriele
Benussi, “Alfa Romeo”, ha tagliato
il traguardo per prima su 1758 barche,
con il nostro nome ben visibile sopra
il tangone. Siamo felici di aver sponsorizzato
un sogno, di averci creduto e di aver visto
le lacrime di gioia di un equipaggio che ha
dato il massimo fin dal primo istante.
Anche quest’anno SLAM è stata
sponsor della Barcolana,
la più grande regata open
del mondo che si è tenuta a Trieste
dal 30 settembre al 9 ottobre.
Barcolana e Slam condividono
da sempre la stessa passione
per il mare, la fede
nella “vela per tutti”,

the Barcolana, the biggest open
regatta in the world, held in Trieste
from 30 September to 9 October.
Barcolana and Slam share the same
passion for the sea, a faith in “sailing
for all” and a mix of technology and
emotion. See you in 2017, with a new
Barcolana, all together.

“La difficoltà maggiore di una partenza
si chiama Time to distance: per avere il
controllo di questa misura devi usare i due
emisferi del cervello, perché il tempo
è da una parte e la distanza dall’altra.
Essendo mancino sono più abituato di altri
ad usare entrambi gli emisferi, e questa
è una fortuna. Credo che alla fine mi abbia
dato un’arma in più anche in vela”.
“The greatest difficulty at the start is
called Time to distance: to control this
measurement you need to use both the
hemispheres in your brain as time is on one
side and distance on the other. As I am lefthanded I am more accustomed than others
to using both hemispheres and in this I am
lucky. I think that in the end this has given
me the edge in sailing as well”.
SLAM didn’t go to the Barcolana to win,
but when it happened we were as excited
as little kids. Furio and Gabriele Benussi’s
“Alfa Romeo” boat crossed the finish line
first, ahead of 1758 boats, with our name
well visible above the spinnaker pole.
We were happy to have sponsored
a dream, believed in it and seen the tears
of joy of a team who gave its all from
the very first moment.
PINK IS BETTER La barca, la vela,
la boa, la virata, la cima, la rotta… tutto
in vela è femmina. Sarà per questo che le
veliste non mancano mai e - anzi - spesso
si fanno notare. Alice Linussi, 15 anni,
neocampionessa del mondo di 420, figlia
d’arte, sembra una ragazzina timida come
tante, ma in barca si trasforma e diventa
una prodiera agguerrita, tenace,
e pronta a tutto. Complimenti, Alice,
da tutto lo staff SLAM.
PINK IS BETTER The boat, the sail, the buoy,
the tack, the line, the course… in Italian all these
sailing words are feminine, grammatically
speaking. This might be why there are always
plenty of female sailors and they often stand
out. 15-year-old Alice Linussi is the newly
crowned 420 ladies world champion and
daughter of a sailor. She looks like any other shy
girl of her age, but on the boat she turns into a
fierce crew, tenacious and ready for anything.

When I crossed the finish line
and our trainer raced towards
us in the speedboat to hug us,
it was an incredible emotion.

the sacrifices had been worth it.

La prima volta che sono salita
in barca avevo 6 anni e tanta
paura, perché ero sola e non

Poi ho capito che quello
era il primo insegnamento:

Quando, due anni fa,

del Giappone per la categoria
Laser 4.7 ho visto tutto
il mio cambiamento.
Oggi la vela per me

Then I realised that it was
the first lesson: pulling through
in any situation. When, two years
ago, I came fourth in the World
Championships in Japan, in the

Il mare occupa tutto il suo tempo libero.

and as well as sailing, she is also a windsurfer and

Guglielmo, 30 anni, si è trasferito in Spagna
dove ha trasformato la passione per la vela
in un lavoro: cura la preparazione e la messa
a punto delle barche da regata da Gran Prix.
30-year-old Guglielmo moved to Spain and
turned his passion for sailing into a job: he is
responsible for preparation and fine tuning
of Grand Prix regatta boats.
Romina, 30 anni, veterinaria. Ha scoperto il mare
per amore, per seguire il suo fidanzato
che regatava. Oggi la più appassionata dei due
