Vic-Haomei: la partnership perfetta

As for the problems related to
European competitiveness, we
have the example of Vic Ltd,
a company that has a partnership with the Chinese company
Haomei- which operates in the
field of aluminium extrusion; Vic
handles the European distribution of Haomei aluminium profiles
since 2005. The positive trend
registered in 2009, which certainly wasn’t a bright year for the
industry, globally, this definitely
indicates a trend.
At the headquarters in Brescia,
one of the founding partners of
Vic, Carlo Valvassori, outlines
his views on developments in
the European extrusion systems.
«My belief - explains Valvassori
- is that, to operate competitively
in the global market we must aim
for the top, especially in terms of
quality and service, and that is
what we are doing. It is often said,
generalizing, that the Chinese
copy the others, but we should
remember that this practice, in
an open field such as extrusion,
with a great universal technological legacy, and with large excess
of production capacity in Europe,
cannot by itself be successful.
Speaking of our specific case, I
would say that our partners first
sought to learn from others, endeavoured to learn the technology available, and successively
they revised it according to their
market approach, based on the
methods of doing business globally. It is not by chance that they
are able to penetrate easily especially the markets where the offer
was represented mainly by do-

mestic companies with favorable
positions and a poor response to
customer needs».
The figures of Haomei plant in
Qingyuan are impressive: 1500
people of which around 200 are
engineers working on 500 thousand square meters, of which
300 thousand are covered. The
core business of the company
is the extruded profile which Vic
sells, as exclusive branch office
for Europe. The company has
27 extrusion lines, with presses
ranging from 600 to 4500 tons.
The resulting product of Haomei
is completely finished: there are
anodizing and painting lines, as
well as facilities for additional

in partnership con l’estrusore
cinese Haomei, per il quale dal
2005 cura la distribuzione in tutta Europa dei profili di alluminio.
L’andamento positivo registrato
nel 2009, un anno non certo
brillante per l’industria a livello
globale, è infatti molto indicativo di una tendenza. Nella sede
dell’azienda di Brescia uno dei
soci fondatori della Vic, Carlo
Valvassori, ci ha illustrato le
sue opinioni sull’andamento del
sistema europeo degli estrusi:
«La mia convinzione - ci spiega
Valvassori - è che per operare in
termini competitivi sul mercato
globale è necessario lavorare al
top, in particolare sotto l’aspetto della qualità e del servizio,
ed è quanto stiamo facendo. Si
dice spesso generalizzando che
i cinesi copiano, ma è bene ricordare che questa prassi in un
settore aperto come quello dell’estrusione, con un grande patrimonio tecnologico universale
alle spalle, e con grande eccesso di capacità produttive in Europa, non può di per sé essere
vincente. Guardando al nostro
caso specifico, io direi che i nostri partner hanno prima cercato
di imparare dagli altri, sforzandosi di apprendere la tecnologia
disponibile, e successivamente
l'hanno rielaborata secondo il
loro approccio al mercato, improntato a fare business a livello
globale. Non è un caso che siano
riusciti a penetrare in particolare
con grande facilità sui mercati
in cui l’offerta era arroccata su
rendite di posizione domestiche
scarsamente sensibili alle esigenze del cliente».
I numeri di Haomei (stabilimento di Qingyuan) sono imponenti:
1500 persone impiegate di cui
quasi 200 ingegneri, per 500
mila mq di superficie, di cui 300
mila coperti. Il core-business
dell’azienda è il profilo estruso
che Vic, in qualità di branchoffice esclusivo per l’Europa,
si occupa di far penetrare nel
mercato. Sono 27 le linee di
estrusione presenti in azienda,
con un range di presse che va
dalle 600 alle 4500 tonnellate. Il

machining. «The machineries
and equipment from Qingyuan
- Valvassori states - are the best
on a global level, both for extrusion presses (Japan and Taiwan)
and handling and packing lines
(Italy and Germany), as well as
for additional processing and
surface finishing (Switzerland).
This is because the objective is
to provide top quality and not, as
one might think, competitiveness
only in terms of price; we engage
in transparent competition - I
even have to admit that our products are not particularly economical, and our prices are aligned
to those circulating in Europe.
Nevertheless, since 2005 we
have not lost a customer, and the
figures are still increasing. We
are focusing on high quality and
value added production having
the strength of an efficient and
responsive commercial structure, full-time, 365 days a year.
I would also like to mention that,
in 2009, Vic supplied Europe
with a huge amount of extruded
profiles, particularly distributed in
Germany, France, UK, Italy and,
with a 25% increase compared
to the previous year. Moreover,
the volumes for the first quarter
of 2010 are already equal to the
volumes for the entire 2009. With
reference to Europe, as I have
mentioned, we work mainly with
Germany, France, UK, Benelux,
Italy also with Poland, Slovakia, Slovenia, Czech Republic,
Austria, Switzerland, Sweden,
Norway and Denmark: almost a
total coverage».
Haomei is the fourth Chinese
company to have obtained the
Qualicoat certification for surface
treatments; it also holds the Japanese standard certification and
obtained the Reach certificate.
Along with the excellent results,
what important news does the
company have? «The important
news concerning the company is
that, by year-end, Haomei will be
listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange. There are other projects
underway, aimed at expanding
the factory: 20 thousand square
meters for the installation of 8
new presses, considering also
the significant growth expected
in the domestic market».
Finally, a reference to the participation of Vic-Haomei at METEF
2010: «We have been attending the fair since the company
was established; we have participated in previous editions and
will continue to do so because
METEF represents for us the
only Italian fair reference, where
you can really do business at
international level».

le linee di movimentazione e imballo (Italia e Germania), lavorazioni aggiuntive e finiture superficiali (Svizzera). Questo perché
l’obiettivo è fornire in primo luogo della qualità, e non come si
potrebbe pensare, prodotti competitivi solo sul fronte del prezzo; la nostra è una concorrenza
trasparente, anzi debbo precisare che i nostri prodotti non sono
particolarmente economici, e le
nostre quotazioni sono allineate,
a quelle che circolano in Europa.
Ciò nonostante, dal 2005 non
abbiamo perso un cliente, e i
numeri sono in continuo aumento. Ci concentriamo nel ricercare
produzioni di qualità e di interessante valore aggiunto avendo la
forza di una struttura commerciale efficiente e reattiva, a tempo pieno per 365 giorni l’anno.
Aggiungo che Vic ha immesso
nel 2009 in Europa, un'ingente
quantità di estrusi, in larga parte
distribuiti in Germania, Francia,
UK, Italia, con un incremento
del 25% sull’anno precedente.
Ed i volumi del primo trimestre
2 2010
2010 sono già alla pari con l’intero 2009. Con riferimento all’Europa, come detto lavoriamo
principalmente con la Germania, Francia, UK, Italia, Benelux,
quindi con, Polonia, Slovacchia,
Slovenia, Repubblica Ceca, Austria, Svizzera, Svezia, Norvegia e Danimarca: una copertura
pressoché totale».
Haomei è la quarta azienda
cinese ad aver ottenuto la certificazione Qualicoat per i trattamenti superficiali, oltre a possedere le certificazioni standard
giapponesi ed aver ottenuto
quella del Reach.
Accanto agli ottimi risultati, quali novità ci sono da segnalare?
«L'importante novità riguardante l’azienda è che entro fine
anno Haomei sarà quotata alla
borsa di Hong Kong. Altri progetti in corso riguardano un’espansione dello stabilimento: 20 mila
mq per l’installazione di 8 nuove
presse, anche in considerazione
della grande crescita interna prevista per il mercato domestico».
Un accenno, infine, alla partecipazione di Vic-Haomei a METEF
2010: «Siamo frequentatori della fiera sin dalla nostra nascita,
abbiamo partecipato alle precedenti edizioni e continueremo a
farlo perché METEF rappresenta per noi l’unica fiera italiana di
riferimento dove fare business
