La Scuderia Ferrari Marlboro lascia Singapore a mani vuote. Dopo una prima parte di gara in cui Felipe Massa stava
confermando la pole position di ieri e Kimi Raikkonen stava avvicinandosi al suo diretto avversario nella lotta per la seconda
posizione, l’entrata in pista della safety-car al giro 15 determinava un doppio pit-stop dei due ferraristi al giro 17. Durante le
operazioni di rifornimento di Felipe, veniva data la luce verde prima che il rifornimento fosse completato: il pilota partiva
trascinandosi dietro il tubo della benzina e doveva poi fermarsi prima dell’uscita della pit-lane, sprofondando così in fondo al
gruppo. La sua corsa era compromessa anche da una penalità legata all’episodio del pit-stop e da una foratura che lo
costringeva ad un rientro anticipato ai box per la seconda sosta: il brasiliano tagliava il traguardo in tredicesima posizione.
Kimi, ovviamente penalizzato dal doppio pit-stop, rientrava in pista intorno alla quindicesima posizione e iniziava una
rimonta che lo avrebbe portato fino alla quinta piazza. Nel corso del giro 58 il finlandese perdeva il controllo della sua
macchina alla chicane e finiva contro le barriere di protezione. Dopo questa battuta d’arresto, Felipe si trova staccato di
sette punti dal leader della classifica del campionato Piloti e la squadra si trova adesso al secondo posto con una lunghezza
di ritardo nella classifica Costruttori.
Stefano Domenicali: “E’ una giornata nera, c’è poco da dire. Avevamo il potenziale per fare una doppietta ma non siamo
riusciti nemmeno a fare un punto. Siamo molto delusi ma questo non vuol dire che ci lasciamo abbattere. Abbiamo sempre
dimostrato la nostra capacità di reazione, in particolare nei momenti più difficili, e lo faremo anche stavolta. La situazione nei
due campionati si è fatta più complicata ma ci sono ancora tre gare da disputare e tanti punti in palio: sappiamo quello che
dobbiamo fare per raggiungere i nostri obiettivi. La prima parte della corsa ha dimostrato che oggi la nostra macchina era la
più veloce in pista. La safety-car è entrata nel momento peggiore ma non vogliamo cercare delle scuse perché questo
fattore imponderabile è sempre da mettere in conto. Poi è stato commesso un errore dalla squadra in occasione del pit-stop
in regime di safety-car, che è costato la corsa a Massa. Ci dispiace molto per Felipe perché stava facendo una bellissima
gara dopo aver fatto una grande pole ieri. Ci tengo a dire che proprio Felipe è andato a rincuorare il meccanico che ha
sbagliato, a testimonianza dello spirito che c’è in questa squadra: si vince e si perde tutti insieme. Kimi era riuscito a
rientrare in zona punti ma poi è finito contro le barriere in uno dei tanti trabocchetti disseminati per questo tracciato.
Peccato, perché sarebbero stati dei punti preziosi per la classifica Costruttori. Dobbiamo guardare avanti e prepararci al
meglio per le prossime tre corse.”
Felipe Massa: “E’ difficile accettare di perdere in questo modo una gara che avevamo in mano, avendo a disposizione una
macchina che volava. Avevamo una buona strategia e c’erano tutte le premesse per una doppietta. Sappiamo però che le
cose possono cambiare in un attimo ed è quello che è successo oggi. In occasione del pit-stop è stato commesso un errore
da parte di uno dei ragazzi: può succedere perché siamo tutti essere umani. Ognuno di noi cerca di fare sempre il massimo
e queste cose possono accadere. Con la safety-car ancora in pista non ho perso il giro ma poi ho avuto un drive-through e,
successivamente, ho anche forato la ruota posteriore sinistra. Su questa pista è quasi impossibile sorpassare e ritrovarsi in
fondo ha significato perdere ogni chance di fare punti. Sette punti di distacco da recuperare in tre gare? Possono essere
tanti ma anche pochi: abbiamo il potenziale per fare bene, come abbiamo visto oggi e ce la metteremo tutta per riuscirci.
Non dobbiamo mollare e lo faremo, ne sono sicuro.”
Kimi Raikkonen: “Stavo cercando di stare attaccato a Glock per approfittare di un suo eventuale errore ma sono andato
leggermente largo alla chicane saltando sul cordolo e, rimbalzando a terra, ho perso il controllo della macchina e sono finito
contro le barriere di protezione. La mia situazione in campionato era già abbastanza compromessa in precedenza quindi
non è che abbia fatto poi tanta differenza ma sono dispiaciuto perché la squadra ha perso dei punti preziosi per la classifica
Costruttori. Nei primi giri la macchina era un po’ difficile ma poi è migliorata moltissimo tanto che ero riuscito a riavvicinarmi
ad Hamilton. Quando poi è entrata la safety-car sapevamo che la mia corsa era ormai compromessa, visto che avrei
dovuto fermarmi dietro Felipe. Ero riuscito a risalire in quinta posizione ma poi è successo quello che ho descritto prima.
Chiaro, il morale oggi non è alto. Non siamo però abituati a mollare e daremo il massimo per cercare di aiutare la squadra a
raggiungere i suoi obiettivi.”
Luca Baldisserri: “E’ difficile descrivere con delle parole la delusione di oggi. Avevamo tutte le carte in regola per centrare
il massimo risultato e invece non abbiamo raccolto nulla. Nella prima parte della corsa Felipe stava conducendo con autorità
mentre Kimi, dopo qualche difficoltà iniziale, stava dimostrando di avere un gran ritmo. La safety-car ha mandato i nostri
piani all’aria. Innanzitutto siamo stati costretti a fare il doppio pit-stop – la scelta migliore in quel frangente – che ha
penalizzato Kimi. Poi abbiamo commesso un errore nel rilascio della vettura di Felipe, che gli ha rovinato la corsa.
Potevamo fare un bel passo avanti nei due campionati ma ne abbiamo fatto uno indietro. Ora dobbiamo rimboccarci le
maniche e prepararci al meglio per le prossime gare. C’è ancora tutto il tempo per recuperare ma non possiamo più
sbagliare.”

Scuderia Ferrari Marlboro leaves Singapore empty handed. After the early part of the race when Felipe Massa
maintained his pole position set yesterday and Kimi Raikkonen was closing on the driver ahead of him in the fight for
second place, the arrival of the Safety Car on lap 15 called for a double pit stop for both Ferrari men on lap 17. As
Felipe was being refueled, the green light came on before refueling had been completed. The driver drove off
dragging the fuel line behind him and had to stop at the end of pit lane, thus dropping to the back of the pack. His
race was further compromised by a penalty linked to this incident and a puncture that saw him make his second stop
ahead of schedule. He crossed the finish line thirteenth. Kimi, obviously penalized by the double stop, rejoined in
around fifteenth place and began a climb up the order that should have resulted in fifth place. On lap 58 however,
the Finn lost control of the car at the chicane and ended up in the barriers. After this poor showing, Felipe is now
seven points down on the leader of the Drivers’ championship and the team drops to second place one point behind
the leader of the Constructors’ classification.
Stefano Domenicali: “A black day, there’s little else to say. We had the potential to finish first and second but we
didn’t even pick up a point. We are very disappointed but that doesn’t mean we are downtrodden. We have always
shown our ability to react, especially at the most difficult times and we will do it again this time. The situation in the
two championships has become more complicated but there are still three races to go and a lot of points up for
grabs. We know what we have to do to reach our objectives. The first part of the race showed that today our car was
the quickest on track. The Safety Car came out at the worst possible moment, but we are not looking for excuses
because this uncertain factor must always be taken into account. Then the team made a mistake at the pit stop
during the Safety Car period, which cost Massa the race. I am very sorry for Felipe because he was driving a very
strong race following on from a great pole yesterday. I want to point out that it was Felipe himself who went to
console the mechanic who made the mistake, which shows the team spirit that we have between us: we win together
and we lose together. Kimi managed to get into the points but then he ended up in the barriers at one of the many
tricky points around this track. A shame, as it would have meant precious points for the Constructors’ classification.
We must look ahead and prepare ourselves as well as possible for the remaining three races.”
Felipe Massa: “It’s hard to deal with losing in this fashion a race that was within our grasp, with a car that was just
the way I wanted it. We had a good strategy and all the signs were there that we could get a one-two finish. But
things can change in a moment and that’s what happened today. At the pit stop, one of the guys made a mistake.
But we are only human. Each one of us always tries to do our best and these things can happen. With the Safety
Car still on track, I didn’t lose a lap, but then I got a drive-through and later I also picked up a puncture in the left
rear. On this track it is almost impossible to overtake and ending up at the back meant I had not chance of getting
into the points. Seven points to make up in three races? That can be a lot or it can be a little. We have the potential
to do well, as we saw today and we will give it our best shot. We mustn’t give up and I’m sure we won’t.”
Kimi Raikkonen: “I was trying to attack Glock in case he might make a mistake, but I went slightly wide at the
chicane, jumping over the kerb and when the car landed, I lost control and ended up in the barriers. My situation in
the championship was already rather compromised, so this doesn’t really make that much difference but I am
unhappy because the team has lost precious points in the Constructors’ classification. In the opening laps, the car
was a bit difficult but then it improved a lot, to such an extent that I was able to close right up to Hamilton. When the
Safety Car came out, I know my race was compromised given that I had to pit behind Felipe. I was able to get back
up to fifth but then the incident I described earlier happened. Clearly, morale is not high today. But I am not used to
giving up and will do my very best to try and help the team reach its targets.”
Luca Baldisserri: “It’s hard to put into words today’s disappointment. We had everything in place to get the best
possible result and unfortunately we ended up with nothing. Felipe was controlling the early stages of the race, while
Kimi, after a few difficulties at the beginning, was running at a great pace. The Safety Car threw our plans into the
air. First and foremost, we had to go for a double pit stop – the best choice in this situation – but it penalized Kimi.
Then we made a mistake in letting Felipe go and that ruined his race. We could have made a significant step forward
in both championships but we ended up going backwards. Now we must roll up our sleeves and prepare as well as
possible for the coming races. There is still plenty of time to recover but there is no more room for error.”
