Teaching activities
His research and expertize is sustainable architecture and urban design, specifically related with
the techniques, strategies for transformation of complex urban context towards energy efficiency
and urban development environmentally oriented.
His research and design works emphasizes the relationship between urban morphology and
energy consumption, and the relationship between contemporary mobility infrastructure, urban
development and architecture.
Massimo teaches Sustainable Architectural Design at the International Master of Science in
Architectural Engineering at Politecnico di Milano, School of Engineering and Architecture. Here he
is also responsible of an Architecture/Urban Design Studio Laboratory and Dean’s deputy for
international programme.
He is director of IMMdesignLab, www.immdesignlab.com an international multidisciplinary design
laboratory that leads various international projects aiming to transform, through an innovative
methodology, existing urban contexts seen as Complex Adaptive Systems into more sustainable,
energy efficient forms. Our work is driven by ethical principles and rigorous theory and by the
consideration that urban design can directly affect the quality of our lives as well as improve the
quality of our environment, making our future more sustainable.

the scientific committee of Infobuild (www.infouild.com), an Architectural Internet magazine and
information website.
He is co-leader of Build Our Nation (www.buildournation.org) an international and innovative
educational experience in Architectural Design involving multitudes of students working together
internationally to explore and develop humanitarian projects based on Sustainability and
Inclusiveness. Taifa Letu Tujenge which means Build our nation in Swahili is the first project for the
a women’s community centre in DR. The Build Our Nation & Taifa Letu Tujenge: Common Ground
has been hosted in Venice during the Biennale Sessions, 13th International Architecture
Exhibition.
He is also member of the advisory board of Qutubone (www.qutubone.com) an international firm
based in India with interests in Sustainable Architecture, Master planning, Design & Constructions
and partner of STA Architecture and Urban Design (www.studiotadi.it) an Italy based firm operating
in the field of Sustainable Architecture and Urban Design.
He participates in national and international design competition and won many prize and design
awards. Most of his project have been published on Italian and international architectural
magazine.
He is honorary member of the Rotary club International Lecco (Italy).
From 2010 to 2012 he has been Timisoara Mayor’s consultant for the Sustainable Development
and Strategic city projects’. He has also been advisor of many Italian municipalities for the
Sustainable urban development. In 2012 he was invited by an international committee to
coordinate a Design Lab at the 2012 International Venice Biennale.
He is member of the Department of Architecture, Built Environment and Construction Engineering,
at Politecnico di Milano. In this innovative and innovative environment he applies his personal
approach and theory to selected design experiments and context in order to investigate and
address the transformations of the contemporary urban context, to sustainable oriented solution.
He has been lecturer and invited speaker in many universities:
