He gave me the responsibility to create and develop the field of stereotactic and functional neurosurgery in his department. Behind the stature of “Grand Patron”, he was the paternal guide, the perfect advisor and an enthusiastic supporter of all the innovations that we had the opportunity to develop at Rennes University Hospital. We announced him with great emotion the creation of the Inserm unit he had desired so much. On that day, we did not know that it was our last encounter and that he would leave our world a few days later (Figure 1); to Jean Talairach†: along with Jean Bancaud†, he introduced us to the fascinating world of stereotaxy. With the entire team of Saint Anne, he integrated us into the everyday work of the surgical unit, but also allowed us to be involved in the ongoing innovative enterprises. We want to acknowledge our deep admiration and our infinite gratitude. It was a great honor for us to pay tribute to them at the 50th anniversary of the first stereotactic procedure (1948), at the meeting of the Société de Neurochirurgie de Langue Française, on December 2nd, 1998 (Figure 2); ● to André Gouazé: he was, for decades, the French leader in neuroanatomy. He personally taught us this discipline at Tours and helped us successfully enter into the academic career in this domain. We would like to acknowledge here our deep appreciation and gratitude (Figure 3). f:\2000\image\141932\dedications\1 ● Jean Pecker Jean Talairach André Gouaze 9
