E’ un albero importante per l’economia: il suo legno infatti è usato per la costruzione di case e navi. Corteccia e rami sono aromatici e vengono lavorati per distillarne un olio. Fioritura: da agosto a settembre. Ha una necessità d’acqua nella media. Cresce lentamente, ma una volta che ha attecchito è molto resistente. In passato si diceva che una ragazza aveva un innamorato segreto se portava a sua insaputa un’Attaccaveste sulla schiena, e se poi la pianta cadeva, gli steli formavano l’iniziale del nome dell’amante. USA CONIFERS v. 2.0 TG2 XfrogPlants Free Sampler (5 species x 3 ages) Abete di Vancouver ( Abies grandis ) Albero, conifera sempreverde Forma: conica stretta Origine : Ovest dell’America del Nord Ambiente : valli fluviali, pendii montani Clima : fresco Note : Noto anche come Abete Gigante, cresce molto velocemente ed è perciò usato per la riforestazione. E’ resistente al freddo ma esigente riguardo al suolo, che dev’essere calcareo, profondo e ben drenato. Tollera l’ombra e si trova spesso in foreste miste con altre conifere. Il legno è usato per la cellulosa. Le gemme sono molto apprezzate per fare insalate, ma quest’uso può essere pericoloso per una specie dalla così lenta crescita. La Palmetta Sabal è resistente al freddo.
