ccording to myth, during the Clash of
the Giants, Poseidon chased Polyvotis
until he reached Kos. There, he cut a
piece of the island, threw it to Polyvotis and
buried him under it. That piece of land is
Nisyros. Where Polyvotis’ mouth used to be,
stands the volcano and the groans from the
chest of the Titan are its eruptions and
occasional earthquakes. The truth is of
course that Nisyros emerged after sub
oceanic volcanic eruptions.
The island will captivate you from your first
visit with its natural beauties and the friendly
and warm hospitality of its simple folk that
will make you return time and again.
