You can use the LSI Logic Configuration Utility program to configure RAID level 1 for a single pair of attached devices. 2. If you install a different type of RAID adapter in your server, use the configuration method supplied with the RAID adapter to view or change SCSI settings for attached devices. The following sections provide the instructions for starting and running the LSI Logic Configuration Utility program and performing selected functions. Starting the LSI Logic Configuration Utility program Complete the following steps to start the LSI Logic Configuration Utility program: 1. Turn on the server. 2. When the prompt <<< Press <CTRL><C> to start LSI Logic Configuration Utility >>> appears, press Ctrl+ C. If you have set an administrator password you are prompted to type the password. 3. Use the arrow keys to select a controller (channel) from the list of adapters; then, press E nter. 4. Follow the instructions on the screen to change the settings of the selected items; then, press E nter. The Device P roperties and Mirroring P roperties choices produce additional screens of parameters to review or change. Formatting a SCSI hard d isk d rive Low-level formatting removes all data from the hard disk. If there is data you want to save, back up the hard disk before performing this procedure. Complete the following steps to format a drive. Note: Before you format a SCSI hard disk, make sure that it is not part of a mirrored pair. From the list of adapters, select the controller (channel) for the drive to format. Select Mirroring P roperties and make sure the mirroring value for the drive is set to None. 1. From the list of adapters, select the controller (channel) for the drive to format. 2. Select Device P roperties. 3. Use the arrow keys (↑ or ↓) to highlight the drive to format. 4. Use the arrow keys (← or →) or the E nd key to scroll to the right. 5. Select Format; then, press E nter to begin the low-level formatting operation. Configuring the G igab it E thernet controller The E thernet controller is integrated on the system board. It provides an interface for connecting to a 10 -Mbps, 10 0 -Mbps, or 10 0 0 -Mbps network and provides full duplex (FDX ) capability, which enables simultaneous transmission and reception of data on the network. If the E thernet port in the server supports auto-negotiation, the controller detects the data-transfer rate of the network (10 BASE -T, 10 0 BASE -TX , or 10 0 0 BASE -T) and automatically operates at that rate, in full-duplex or half-duplex mode, as appropriate. The E thernet controller supports optional modes, such as teaming, priority packets, load balancing, fault tolerance, and virtual LAN s, which provide better performance, security, and throughput. These modes apply to the integrated E thernet controller and to controllers on supported E thernet adapters. 16 IBM x Series 225 Type 8 6 47 : H ardware Maintenance Manual and Troubleshooting G uide
