Potenziamento IT`S PROM TIME!
A Name Potenziamento ✸ ✸ IT'S Class Date P R O M TIME! ✸ ✸ How will you celebrate when you finish your exams next summer? That’s an easy question for British teenagers. A lot of them know exactly what they’re going to do. They’re going to have fun at the school prom! A school prom is a formal party which celebrates an important event at school, for example the end of exams or the final day of school. The tradition comes from the USA, but today, thanks to films and TV programmes like High School Musical and Glee, proms are very popular in Britain. About 85% of UK secondary schools organise a prom for students in Year 11 (15 – 16 years old) after they finish their GCSE exams. The proms are often very extravagant. The students buy new clothes, celebrate in big hotels and sometimes travel to the events in expensive cars and limousines! Lisa and Oliver are two British students. They are both in Year 11 and, at the moment, they are preparing for their school prom. Read about their plans and predictions for the event. Lisa.. ‘I’m really excited1 about our school prom this year. We’re going to have a three course meal and a disco in a four star hotel in town! It’ll be brilliant! Next week I’m going shopping with my mum to look for a new dress. I’d like a long, blue evening dress and I want to wear a tiara, too! I think the day of the prom will be very busy! In the afternoon I’m going to go to the hairdresser’s and my hairdresser, Katie, is going to do my hair and nails2 . After that, I’m going to get ready3 with four friends at my house. When we’re ready, Dad’s going to take some photographs of us and then we’re going to travel to the hotel in a limo4! How cool is that? I’m sure that it’ll be one of the best days of my life!’ Oliver.. ‘I usually wear casual clothes like jeans and T-shirts. I don’t like wearing formal clothes very much, but I’m going to buy a suit5 for my school prom. It will be perfect for the prom night and then I’ll use it in the future if I get a job interview6. I might buy a bow tie7, too! It may be the only occasion I ever have to wear one of those! Mum’s a hairdresser so she’s going to cut my hair on the day. Then I’ll just put some gel in it and I’ll be ready to go! I’m going to travel to the prom in style – Dad’s going to take me and two friends on his tractor! I think it’ll be really funny!’ What will it cost Lisa? What will it cost Oliver?
