The FONDMETAL Group creates car technology through projects aimed at achieving top mechanical, aerodynamic
and speed performance.
Die FONDMETAL Gruppe schafft automobile Technologie, die darauf ausgerichtet ist höchsten Ansprüchen in Mechanik,
Aerodynamik und Geschwindigkeit gerecht zu werden.
HISTORY. FONDMETAL started its activity in the early ‘70s as a company specialised in the casting of metals for third
parties, a family tradition dating back to 1908. Gabriele Rumi, the founder of the company, then considered the possibility
of launching a product of his own: alloy wheels. The manufacturing started in 1980 and was immediately successful, so
much so that, as from 1984, the entire production was devoted to this product.
In 1992, the first custom-made wheel for OEM mass production was made, and the Group was strengthened with the
creation of FONDMETAL TECHNOLOGIES (now FONDTECH) together with its wind tunnel facility, as well as the
acquisition of RADIUS, a company specialised in the marketing of top-range wheels.
In 2004, another hi-tech company joined the Group: AEROLAB, with a state-of-the-art wind tunnel able to work in
synergy with FONDTECH.
A strategically important leap forward for FONDMETAL was its presence in Formula 1, first with the production and
supply of specific magnesium wheels for various teams since 1983, then with the creation of FONDMETAL F1 (19891992) and then with the acquisition and management of MINARDI F1 (1996-2000).
FONDMETAL today continues to be present on the toughest racing fields worldwide by cooperating directly to the
development of speed performances of the most important car manufacturers in the Formula 1, Formula 3, Le Mans
and DTM championships.
Over the last few years, the Group has reached 200 employees, with a production capacity, for wheels alone, of over
1.000.000 units and an average of 60 projects developed in one year.
FONDMETAL is present all over the world and cooperates with world’s leading manufacturers of automobiles.
HISTORY. FONDMETAL startet in den frühen 70er Jahren als ein Unternehmen, dass spezialisiert ist im Giesen von
Metallen für Dritte. Dieses ist eine Familientradition seit 1908. Gabriele Rumi, der Gründer des Unternehmens, überlegte
dann, ein eigenes Produkt einzuführen: Aluräder. Die Produktion startete 1980 und war sofort so erfolgreich, dass ab
1984 die gesamte Produktion nur noch diesem Produkt gewidmet wurde.
1992 wurde das erste Massenrad speziell für die Erstausrüster gefertigt. (OEM Massenproduktion).
Die Unternehmensgruppe wurde gestärkt durch die Gründung der FONDMETAL TECHNOLOGIES (jetzt
FONDTECH), zusammen mit der Einrichtung eines Windkanals, sowie der Übernahme der Firma RADIUS, die
spezialisiert war im Vertrieb von hochwertigen Alurädern.
2004 kam ein weiteres Hi-Tech Unternehmen dazu: AEROLAB, mit einem hochmodernen Windkanal, was eine perfekte
Ergänzung mit FONDTECH ergab.
Ein strategisch wichtiger Schritt nach vorne war für FONDMETAL die Präsenz in der Formel 1. Seit 1983, zunächst
mit der Produktion und Lieferung spezieller Magnesium Felgen für verschiedene Teams, dann mit der Gründung der
FONDMETAL F1 (1989-1992), bis hin zur Übernahme und Leitung der MINARDI F1 (1996-2000).
Heute ist FONDMETAL nach wie vor, in direkter Zusammenarbeit mit der Entwicklung der wichtigsten FahrzeugHerstellern der Formel 1, Formel 3, Le Mans und DTM Meisterschaften, in den härtesten Rennserien weltweit
vertreten. Während der letzten Jahre wurde eine Mitarbeiteranzahl von 200 erreicht, mit einer Produktionskapazität von
über 1.000.000 Einheiten nur an Rädern, sowie durchschnittlich 60 Entwicklungs-Projekte pro Jahr.
FONDMETAL ist weltweit vertreten und arbeitet mit den führenden Automobilherstellern zusammen.
ACTIVITIES. The fields of activity of the FONDMETAL Group are many, all of them characterised by Research and
Development and by the highest technological standards. The Group’s core business is represented by products and
services for the automotive, including the top specialisation of car racing.

RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT. FONDMETAL has progressively enhanced its R&D centre with the most up-to-date
design and virtual simulation systems. Engineers and designers work with stylists and draftsmen to define the design
of new products: all these elements have made FONDMETAL a trend-setter in its field and have contributed to place
FONDMETAL in the HALL OF FAME published by the prestigious ICSID (International Council of Societies of Industrial Design).
Forschung und Entwicklung. FONDMETAL hat sein Forschungs- und Entwicklungscenter kontinuierlich durch
aktuellstes Design und virtuellen Simulations - Systemen erweitert. Ingenieure und Designer arbeiten mit Zeichnern und
Stylisten zusammen, um das Design neuer Produkte zu definieren. Alles das hat FONDMETAL zu einem Trendsetter in
der Branche gemacht und dazu beigetragen, dass FONDMETAL einen Platz in der HALL OF FAME inne hat. Erschienen
in der renomierten ICSID (International Council of Societies of Industrial Design).
TECHNOLOGY. The production facilities at Palosco, Italy, are characterized by a high level of automation covering the
whole production process, wheels handling and warehousing.
Metal melting and treatment are made in modern furnaces. Degassing and chemical modifications take place in a
completely automated plant which was designed and developed by FONDMETAL.
Casting is made on automated islands with gravity and low-pressure systems operated by robots, with an exclusive
system of dust aspiration and filtering.
Machining takes place on robotised lines, and painting is made in modern plants, filtered and pressurised plants where the
operations of degreasing, chemical anti-corrosion treatment, application and curing of paints are completely automated.
The packaging is performed by qualified personnel and quality control is performed on each individual product.
The respect for the environment is highly valued during all stages of the production process. The use of low-impact raw
materials, the energy saving, the use of constantly maintained plants, the collection, treatment and automatic recycling of
slag and residues of the production process ensure this primary goal.
Technologie. Die Produktionsstätten in Palosco, Italien, bieten ein hohes Level an Automation, die den gesamten
Prozess der Produktion, Abwicklung und Lagerung umfasst. In modernen Öfen wird Metall geschmolzen und
bearbeitet. Entgasung und chemische Modifikation erfolgen in einer von FONDMETAL entwickelten und konstruierten
vollautomatischen Anlage. Der Guß erfolgt durch ein spezielles Absaug- und Filtersystem, in automatischen Bereichen
mit Schwerkraft- und Niederdruck-Systemen, die von Robotern bedient werden. Die mechanische Bearbeitung findet
auf automatischen Bändern statt. Lackiert wird in modernen Druckkabinen, in denen die Entfettung, eine chemische
Korrosionsschutz Behandlung, sowie das Auftragen und die Trocknung der Farbe automatisch abläuft. Verpackt wird von
qualifiziertem Personal. Jedes einzelne Produkt durchläuft eine Qualitätskontrolle. Auf Umweltschutz wird während des
gesamten Produktionsprozesses höchsten Wert gelegt, sowie bei der Auswahl des Rohmaterials, beim Energiesparen,
Kontinuierliches warten der Anlagen, Entsorgung und automatische Wiederverwertung von Schlacken und Resten des
Produktionsprozesses stellen dieses primäre Ziel sicher.

Il Gruppo FONDMETAL crea tecnologia per l’auto tramite progetti rivolti all’ottenimento del massimo delle prestazioni
meccaniche, aerodinamiche e velocistiche.
LA STORIA. FONDMETAL inizia l’attività nei primi anni ’70 come azienda specializzata nella fusione di metalli per conto
terzi, una tradizione di famiglia che risale al 1908. In seguito Gabriele Rumi, il fondatore, considera la possibilità di lanciare
un prodotto proprio: le ruote in lega. Nel 1980 ne inizia la fabbricazione, riscuotendo subito un notevole successo, tanto
che dal 1984 l’intera produzione è rivolta a questo prodotto.
Nel 1992 è prodotto il primo modello di ruota speciale da vendere in serie e si rafforza il Gruppo con la creazione di
FONDMETAL TECHNOLOGIES (oggi FONDTECH), con il relativo impianto di galleria del vento, e l’acquisizione di
RADIUS specializzata nella commercializzazione di ruote di alta gamma.
Nel 2004 si aggiunge al Gruppo un’altra azienda ad alta tecnologia: AEROLAB con una galleria del vento di ultima
generazione in grado di agire in sinergia con FONDTECH.
Di grande importanza strategica per FONDMETAL rappresenterà la presenza in Formula 1, prima con la produzione
e fornitura di ruote speciali in magnesio per numerosi Team dal 1983, poi con la creazione di FONDMETAL F1 (19891992) e successivamente con l’acquisizione e gestione della squadra MINARDI F1 (1996-2000).
FONDMETAL oggi continua ad essere presente sui campi di gara più probanti al mondo collaborando in prima persona
allo sviluppo delle prestazioni velocistiche dei più importanti costruttori d’automobili nei campionati di Formula 1,
Formula 3, Le Mans e DTM.
Negli ultimi anni il Gruppo ha raggiunto i 200 addetti, con una capacità produttiva per le sole ruote di oltre 1.000.000

RICERCA E SVILUPPO. FONDMETAL ha progressivamente potenziato il centro ricerche con i più moderni sistemi di

prodotti, elementi che hanno portato FONDMETAL a diventare un riferimento per il mercato che hanno fatto entrare
FONDMETAL nella HALL OF FAME pubblicata dal prestigioso ICSID (International Council of Societies of Industrial Design).
LA TECNOLOGIA. L’unità produttiva di Palosco è caratterizzata da un’elevata automazione sull’intero processo produttivo,
la movimentazione e lo stoccaggio.
La fusione ed il trattamento del metallo sono ottenuti in moderni forni fusori ed il degasaggio e le modifiche avvengono
in un impianto totalmente automatizzato, progettato e sviluppato da FONDMETAL.
La formatura è ottenuta su isole automatizzate con sistemi a gravità e bassa pressione servite da robot e dotate di
un esclusivo sistema di aspirazione e filtraggio delle polveri. La lavorazione meccanica è svolta su linee robotizzate e la
verniciatura è effettuata in moderni impianti, filtrati e pressurizzati, dove tutte le fasi avvengono in maniera totalmente
automatizzata.
L’imballaggio è eseguito da personale qualificato e viene eseguito un controllo qualitativo su ogni singolo prodotto.
Il rispetto dell’ambiente è tenuto in massima considerazione in tutte le fasi del processo produttivo, l’ utilizzo di materie
prime a basso impatto, il risparmio energetico, l’impiego di impianti costantemente manutenuti, la raccolta, il trattamento
e riciclaggio automatico delle scorie e dei residui del processo produttivo garantiscono questo primario obbiettivo.

Lightweight = Performance
Reducing the wheel mass does not only mean reducing the vehicle total mass: it mainly means reducing the unsprung mass.
Lower weight of the unsprung mass ensures better tyre grip on the road surface.
If we consider that the concept of inertia is the tendency of a body to keep its equilibrium of rest
or motion, the following conclusions ensue:
Lower unsprung mass = less inertia =
• Better response of shock absorbers, improved comfort, higher driving pleasure
• Better rotation inertia, hence improved performance in acceleration and braking
• Improved global vehicle performance
• Reduced fuel consumption
Leichtgewicht = Leistung
Eine Reduzierung der Radmasse bedeutet nicht nur eine Verringerung der Fahrzeug-Gesamtmasse.
Es bedeutet auch die Reduzierung der ungefederten Masse. Geringeres Gewicht der ungefederten Masse stellt eine höhere
Reifenhaftung auf der Straßenoberfläche sicher.
Wenn wir annehmen, dass das Prinzip der Massenträgheit die Neigung eines Körpers ist, sein dynamisches Gleichgewicht zu halten,
ergeben sich die folgenden Schlussfolgerungen:

• Besseres Ansprechverhalten der Stoßdämpfer, verbesserter Fahrkomfort, mehr Fahrvergnügen

Leggerezza = prestazione
Ridurre la massa delle ruote non solo significa ridurre la massa totale della vettura, significa soprattutto ridurre la
massa non sospesa. Minore è il peso della massa non sospesa e migliore sarà la capacità dei pneumatici di rimanere
a contatto con il fondo stradale.
Considerato infatti il concetto di inerzia, come la tendenza di un corpo a mantenere il proprio stato di equilibrio di
quiete o di moto, possiamo evidenziare le seguenti conclusioni:

• Migliore risposta delle sospensioni, migliore confort, migliore piacere di guida

The new SuperTuning line is a clear demonstration of FONDMETAL’s continuing commitment to developing and researching new design and new high-tech finishing.
It was thought for the most exacting car lovers, someone who wants to be different and is looking for a 100% Made in Italy certified quality product.
New finishings come from the experience of FONDMETAL in engineering and manufacturing of forged wheels, they are in fact made by using the same
high precision CNC milling machine so to reach and polish surfaces otherwise not reachable by a normal lathing machine.
9XR Speciale, 9RR Speciale and the exclusive 9XR SuperTuning are the first result of this new fashionable process.
This new line includes 3 new wheels with concave style: the SuperTuning Concave (STC), which are featured by a different design
between the front and rear axle so to obtain the deepest possible concavity.
STC models look strong and dynamic and they are synonymous of aggressive style.

Neue Oberflächen resultieren aus der Praxis-Erfahrung von FONDMETAL in der Entwicklung und Herstellung

fertigen zu können, die mit einer herkömmlichen Drehmaschine nicht möglich wären.
9XR Speciale, 9RR Speciale und die exklusive 9XR SuperTuning sind die ersten Resultate dieses neuen
modernen Prozesses.
Die neue Serie enthält 3 neue Räder im konkaven Stil: SuperTuning Concave (STC).
Welche mit unterschiedlichen Dimensionierungen zwischen der Vorder- und Hinterachse
gestaltet sind, um so die größt mögliche Krümmung (Konkavität) zu erhalten.
STC-Modelle wirken stark und dynamisch und sind ein Synonym
für einen aggressiven Style.
