Research Activity
The research activity is mainly focused on:
Molecular mechanisms of programmed cell death
Molecular characterization of the events underlying programmed cell death in a model system
consisting of Saccharomyces cerevisiae yeast cells treated with acetic acid. Analysis on the role of
oxidative stress, cytochrome c and yeast metacaspase YCA1. Heterologous expression of human
proteins and generation of knock out and over-expressing strains through genetic techniques.
Intracellular signalling mitochondria-nucleus
Analysis of cellular response to mitochondrial dysfunctions in Saccharomyces cerevisiae.
Identification of molecular determinants and regulation of gene expression in an intracellular
mitochondria-nucleus signalling pathway.
Mitochondria permeability and energy metabolism
Identification of mitochondria permeable metabolites and characterization of transport systems in
isolated rat liver mitochondria. Analysis of mitochondrial metabolism through spectrophluorimetric
and polarographic measurements.

Teaching activity
Within the experimental thesis program, she is tutor of students from Biotechnology and
Biopharmaceutical Biosciences Department, University of Bari. She held lessons on Biochemistry,
Molecular Biology and DNA manipulation in micro organisms within the General Biochemistry
course, Faculties of Medicine and Science and Food Technology, University of Molise. She wrote a
book for the students on "Principles in Molecular Biology".
