EDITORIALE
Il Viet-Chi Post esce quattro volte all’anno (Primavera, Estate,
Autunno ed Inverno), ogni tre mesi, con l’inizio di ogni stagione,
con nuovi contenuti: articoli, fotografie, links interessanti sulle
pagine web del circuito Viet-Chi.
Ho deciso di arricchire la pubblicazione con articoli legati a luoghi
particolari per il maestro Phan Hoang, come ad esempio il Tempio
di Haeinsa (Korea) che lo ha ispirato per la creazione della forma
Bat-Nha o a leggende del Vietnam come quella di Lac Long Quan e
la fata Au Co, di cui il maestro aveva parlato all’ultimo stage di VoViet a Cuneo.
Inoltre ho ripreso il racconto “Grandi Guerrieri del Dai-Nam”
realizzato dal maestro stesso, molto interessante per espandere le
nostre conoscenze sulla storia del Vietnam attraverso le avventure
di Clara Ikube.
Se avete storie, leggende, racconti, aneddoti da condividere sono
ben felice di condividerle sul prossimo Viet-Chi Post.
Ed infine ricordate che una delle missioni del Viet-Chi Post, oltre a
provvedere contenuti interessanti, è di promuovere l’immagine e la
reputazione dei nostri Club o Associazioni.

The Viet-Chi Post published four times a year (Spring, Summer, Autumn and
Winter) every three months, with the beginning of each season, with new

VO-VIET A SANGANO 2014
Lo stage di SANGANO del 11 Maggio 2014 ha
visto il grande successo del VO VIET, Arte
Marziale nell’ambito del VIET CHI DAO.
In un allenamento diretto dal GM Phan
Hoang si sono trovati assieme praticanti
di VO VIET di diverse scuole, uniti da
un’energia unica, la stessa che il Maestro
sa sempre infondere.
Grande entusiasmo e grande stupore nel vedere e constatare il
dinamismo e la capacità del GM nell’esporre e suscitare interesse a
tutti i livelli ancora una volta, sull’argomento VO VIET: una visione
modernizzata dell’Arte Marziale.
Tante cose sono state dette e fatte nel campo delle Arti Marziali.
La globalizzazione anche in questo campo ha fatto sì che le
caratteristiche specifiche di ciascuna Arte si attenuassero, quindi se
vogliamo che l’Arte Marziale in generale e nella fattispecie il VO
VIET nasca a nuova vita, occorre che trovi una propria ‘mission’ che
la caratterizzi e la renda diversa da un punto di vista differente
rispetto al passato e rispetto alle altre, uno scopo moderno,
accattivante e utile per gli uomini che vivono la vita moderna, con
problematiche diverse da quelle intese sinora, che si rinnovi
continuamente ed evolva continuamente, insomma, che sappia
stare al passo con i tempi.
Questo il messaggio del GM allo stage di Sangano e a giudicare
dall’entusiasmo suscitato, pare che il messaggio sia stato recepito.

IN RICORDO DI FRANCO
Il Vo-Viet Dai-Bang piange la scomparsa del maestro Franco
Crisci, insegnante di Guido e Paolo, che ha portato per primo le
arti marziali del Vietnam a Cuneo, in particolare la scuola Binh-Dinh
Sa-Long-Cuong.
Grande maestro, è stato capace di affascinare e coinvolgere
centinaia di persone nella pratica con il suo entusiasmo, il suo
carisma e la sua capacità di trasmettere ed insegnare.
Quando ha smesso l’insegnamento delle arti marziali, per dedicarsi
allo sviluppo dello sport in Piemonte, la sua eredità è stata portata
avanti dai suoi allievi, che hanno continuato a crescere ed a
sviluppare le sue idee.
La forza delle idee, la capacità di relazionarsi con le persone, di
acquisire
doti
di
leadership,
di
diventare
adattabili
nell’imprevedibilità, di comunicare con il cuore e con la mente…
questi sono alcuni dei doni preziosi che ha trasmesso Franco Crisci.

L’asd Dynamica nasce nell’ottobre 2009 con l’intento di offrire una
serie di attività di vario genere e per tutte le età volte al benessere
psico-fisico della persona: hip hop per bambini e ragazzi, danza
africana, Viet Chi Dao (Viettaichi, Vietkhiphap, Voviet) e molti altri
singoli eventi, quali conferenze sull’alimentazione, giornate di
studio con art conselor e professionisti negli ambiti più diversi.
Negli ultimi due anni i corsi organizzati dalla Dynamica hanno
raggiunto un grado di partecipazione e di qualità di tutto rispetto,
ottenendo ottimi risultati a livello nazionale (per il team dell’Hip
Hop) ed internazionale (nel Viet Chi Dao).
In particolare sono cresciuti a 4 i corsi di Viet Chi Dao (2 a Pergine
e 2 a Trento) tenuti dall’Istruttrice di 2° Dang Paola Binh Lam
Mongera che hanno visto nell’ultima stagione l’iscrizione di 58
persone.
Il programma finora affrontato spazia da varie forme di Viettaichi
ad esercizi specifici di respirazione e riscaldamento del Vietkhiphap;
quest’anno è stato proposto con successo uno studio
particolarmente approfondito del Quyen Tinh Mat a tutti i
partecipanti, anche principianti, che hanno potuto conoscere di
persona il GM Phan Hoang in occasione dello stage organizzato a
Caldonazzo il 4 maggio scorso.
Da 4 anni Paola dedica particolare attenzione agli allievi che
presentano problemi di salute di tipo reumatologico, più
specificatamente per fibromialgia, patologia per la quale anch’essa
è iscritta all’ATMAR, Associazione Trentina Malati Reumatici, con la

quale stringe rapporti sempre più intensi di collaborazione per poter
offrire la propria positiva esperienza.
Un altro aspetto di cooperazione è stato avviato con l’Istruttore
Massimo Segat di Oderzo con il quale vengono organizzati frequenti
incontri di allenamento sul tema delle stagioni e conferenze di
particolare interesse per allievi ed insegnanti.
L’asd Dynamica (nella persona del suo Presidente Claudia Chini) è
socio membro del Vietchi Institute asdc, nato nell’agosto 2013 con
il sostegno del G.M. Phan Hoang, di cui Paola ne è co-fondatrice e
Segretaria.
La progettazione del prossimo anno accademico 2014-2015 è già in
cantiere e prevede stimolanti novità sia dal punto di vista didattico,
sia per quanto riguarda il programma che vedrà, tra l’altro
l’introduzione sperimentale di una sezione di Vo Viet curata
dall’aiuto istruttore Michele Calzà.

In particular grew to 4 courses Viet Chi Dao (2 in Pergine and 2 in Trento) held
from Teatcher 2nd Dang Paola Binh Lam Mongera who saw last season

Alcune parole di GM Phan Hoang sulla nostra Scuola.
Io venni la prima volta a Cuneo lo scorso anno, il 19 aprile 2012.
Avvicinandoci a questa antica città dalla provenienti da Torino non
abbiamo visto nulla che potesse farci dire che stavamo entrando in
una città; la strada sembrava terminare davanti a una bella
montagna, una montagna con la neve in cima.
Ma pochi istanti dopo, ho sentito subito che questo posto mi
piaceva, la gente, le strade strette, il viale centrale, tutti molto
belli. Non posso dire che Cuneo sia una città tipicamente italiana,
perchè qualsiasi città in Italia è sempre molto italiana.
Tuttavia Cuneo, questa antica città italiana, ha un posto speciale
nel mio cuore:
"Un luogo di speranza, un ponte tra passato e futuro".
Sotto la guida di due giovani maestri l'intero gruppo è pieno di
studenti entusiasti. Un maestro è un insegnante di matematica,
l'altro è uno psicologo, l'addestramento è duro, ma lo spirito è alto.

Vogliono preservare gli alti valori del passato e applicare nuove
metodologie alla nostra arte come disciplina per insegnare ai

CUNEO, by G.M. Phan Hoang
I first came to Cuneo last year, on April 19 2012. When approaching this old
city by the road from Torino we did not see anything that could tell we were
entering to a city; the road seemed to end at a beautiful mountain ahead, a
mountain with snow on top.
But a few moments later, I immediately felt that I liked this place; the people,
the narrow streets, the central avenue, all are attractive.
I could not say Cuneo is a town typically Italian because any town in Italy is
always really Italian. However Cuneo, this old Italian town, does has a specific
place in my heart: A place of hope, a bridge between the past and the future.
Under the lead of two young masters the whole group is full of enthusiastic
students. One master is a professor of mathematics and the other is a
psychologist; the training is hard and the spirit is high.
They want to preserve high values from the past and apply new approaches of
our art as a discipline to educate modern citizens: being strong, responsible,
and helpful.
Each time I come to train them I am enthusiastic and I feel I become younger.
They have opted a Vietnamese name for their group:
VO-VIET Dai-Bang which means ‘The Eagle of Vietnamese Martial Arts’

COME POSSIAMO SAPERE SE
SAPPIAMO?
Questo è un interrogativo importante nel campo dell’epistemologia
(la filosofia della conoscenza). È attraverso l’uso della ragione o
grazie all’acquisizione dell’esperienza che noi riusciamo a conoscere
qualcosa.
Noi non dobbiamo prendere parte alla discussione tra razionalità ed
empirismo; lasciamo questa disquisizione a Platone, Descartes,
Kant, Gettier e altri filosofi come loro. Quello che interessa a noi è
molto pià pratico: come possiamo sapere quanto abbiamo acquisito
del metodo e della tecnica della nostra arte nel campo delle
discipline del VIET-CHI?
In altre parole: come possiamo scoprire se qualcuno sa o non sa
nel campo delle nostre arti?
La prova sta nel superare ad un livello accettabile il test secondo il
modello dei 9 livelli di cui i primi quattro sono:
1) Hinh
2) Thuan
3) Tinh
4) Khi
Questo evidentemente significa che si deve essere in grado di
spiegare ed eseguire quella cosa (es. quyen, forma, metodo di
respirazione, tecnica di difesa) attraverso i quattro aspetti
1) dimostrando correttamente la forma
2) eseguendola scorrevolmente e senza esitazioni
3) dimostrando la comprensione del significato della forma stessa
4) dimostrando l’energia, lo spirito, il potere che le appartengono
Non dobbiamo ragionare molto, dobbiamo
esattamente questi 4 aspetti fondamentali, fine!

Quando organizzo un viaggio “fai da te” la prima cosa che mi
procuro è una mappa geografica del luogo, non necessariamente
dettagliata perché ci devo poter scarabocchiare sopra.
Poi una o più valide guide e qualche recensione che mi sembra
attendibile.
Comincio a leggere e, mano a mano che trovo dei posti interessanti
da visitare li evidenzio sulla mappa con un chiaro cerchio; se trovo
qualcosa di parzialmente interessante mi limito a sottolineare il
nome del luogo.
Tenendo conto delle giornate che ho a disposizione per effettuare il
viaggio, tratteggio un ipotetico percorso che vada a toccare tutti (o
quasi) i cerchi e le linee segnati in precedenza, secondo diversi
criteri: senso di guida, orientamento paesaggistico delle strade,
alternanza di luoghi (città, laghi, archeologia, mare, trekking, ecc.).
Un po’ come quel gioco “unisci i puntini” proposto da una famosa
rivista di enigmistica……
Valuto la tipologia di strade ed i relativi tempi di percorrenza,
stabilendo così anche i punti di sosta notturna ed eventuali tagli su
tratti di percorso che si rivelano inopportuni.
Mi preparo una tabella riepilogativa delle tappe e delle soste e, a
questo punto, mi compro una cartina geografica aggiornata e
dettagliata (minimo 1:200.000) che mi servirà come guida durante
il viaggio. Non ho mai usato un navigatore perché ritengo che
atrofizzi la capacità di orientamento, limiti il gusto della scoperta e
tolga la possibilità di discernimento del viaggiatore.
Questo, in breve, è il mio metodo per organizzare i miei viaggi e,
più o meno sviluppato, si rivela valido per tutte le mie vacanze
“esplorative”.
Usare un metodo per affrontare qualsiasi situazione è
determinante per raggiungere il miglior risultato utilizzando il minor
dispendio di energia possibile.
Il GM ha sempre insegnato e ricordato tale principio che sta alla
base di tutte le sue teorie e di tutte le sue discipline.

Ogni sua azione e pensiero segue un metodo ben preciso, una
strategia codificata che gli permette di trovare immediatamente la
migliore soluzione ad ogni problema, il migliore atteggiamento di
fronte ad ogni situazione, in palestra con i propri discepoli o nella
vita quotidiana con i suoi aspetti più imprevisti.
Dopo anni di attenta osservazione dell’evoluzione che le sue
discipline hanno avuto all’interno delle varie scuole e nelle varie
nazioni sparse in tutto il mondo, meditando su quale potesse
essere il futuro migliore per il loro sviluppo e per la loro diffusione e
considerando anche la gamma di persone coinvolte in questo
sviluppo, ha creato una via nuova espressione del Viet-Chi System,
il “Viet-Chi-Dao”.
Nel VCD viene riassunto tutto ciò che si è rivelato il meglio delle
singole discipline basato su un innovativo e lungimirante metodo
didattico.
Una vera e propria rivoluzione dell’ormai obsoleto modo di pensare
le arti marziali e le pratiche di buona salute.
Un nuovo ed impegnativo percorso per un reale progresso delle
discipline “corpo/mente”, un approccio interdisciplinare fondato su
un preciso ed entusiasmante metodo di lavoro.

When I organize a travel to "do it yourself" the first thing I get is a
geographic map of the place, not necessarily detailed because I

I estimate the type of roads and the relative travel times, thus
establishing also points overnight stop and any cuts on route
sections that prove inconvenient.
I prepare a summary table of the stops and stops and, at this
point, I buy a map updated and detailed (min. 1:200.000 km) that
I serve as a guide during the trip. I've never used a GPS because I
believe that the ability to atrophy orientation, limits the joy of
discovery and removes the ability of discerning traveler.
This, in brief, is my METHOD to arrange my travels, and more or
less developed, proves to be valid for all my holidays "exploratory."
Use METHOD to deal with any situation is crucial to achieve the
best result using the least amount of energy possible.

IL TEMPIO DI HAEINSA
Il Tempio di Haeinsa (letteralmente "tempio della riflessione su un
mare calmo") è uno dei più antichi templi buddhisti della Corea del
Sud.
Qui nel 1983 il GM Phan Hoang meditò e creò il quyen Bat-Nha.
Questo tempio è famoso per ospitare la Tripitaka Koreana, cioè
l'intera collezione di 81.258 tavolette in legno con le Scritture
Buddhiste, presenti qui fin dal 1398.
Haeinsa è uno dei tre templi-gioielli del Buddhismo, insieme a quelli
di Tongdosa e Songgwangsa: di questi il primo rappresenta il
dharma, il secondo il Buddha e il terzo il sangha. Haeinsa si trova

sul monte Gayasan, nella provincia del South Gyeongsang, ed è
tuttora un attivo centro di insegnamenti Zen.
Il tempio venne costruito nell'802. Secondo la leggenda, due
monaci di ritorno dalla Cina, di nome Suneung e Ijeong, riuscirono
a guarire la moglie del re Aejang dalla sua malattia; in segno di
ringraziamento, il sovrano ordinò la costruzione del tempio in onore
di Buddha. Secondo invece il racconto di Choe Chi-Won (del 900),
Suneung e il suo discepolo Ijeong convertirono la regina madre al
Buddhismo e ottennero da lei i finanziamenti per la costruzione del
tempio.
Il complesso di cui Haeinsa fa parte venne rinnovato più volte: nel
X secolo, nel 1488, nel 1622 e nel 1648. Nel 1817 venne distrutto
da un incendio e la sala principale venne ricostruita già l'anno
seguente. Durante un nuovo restauro nel 1964 vennero scoperte
una veste cerimoniale del re Gwanghaegun e un'iscrizione su di una
trave in rilievo.
Nel 1995 il tempio di Haeinsa venne inserito nell'elenco dei
Patrimoni dell'umanità dell'UNESCO

HAEINSA TEMPLE
Haeinsa (Temple of the Ocean Mudra) is a head temple of the
Jogye Order of Korean Buddhism in the Gaya Mountains, South
Gyeongsang Province South Korea.
Haeinsa is most notable for being the home of the Tripitaka
Koreana, the whole of the Buddhist Scriptures carved onto 81,350
wooden printing blocks, which it has housed since 1398.
Haeinsa is one of the Three Jewel Temples of Korea, and represents
Dharma or the Buddha’s teachings. It is still an active Seon
practice center in modern times, and was the home temple of the
influential Rev. Seongcheol, who died in 1993.

The temple was first built in 802. Legend says that two Korean
monks returned from China, Suneung and Ijeong, and healed King
Aejang's wife of her illness. In gratitude of the Buddha's mercy, the
king ordered the construction of the temple. Another account, by
Choe Chi-Won in 900 states that Suneung and his disciple Ijeong,
gained the support of a queen dowager who converted to Buddhism
and then helped to finance the construction of the temple.
The temple complex was renovated in the 10th century, 1488,
1622, and 1644. Huirang, the temple abbot enjoyed the patronage
of Taejo of Goryeo during that king’s reign. Haeinsa was burned
down in a fire in 1817 and was rebuilt in 1818. Another renovation
in 1964 uncovered a royal robe of King Gwanghaegun, who was
responsible for the 1622 renovation, and an inscription on a ridge
beam.
The main hall, Daejeokkwangjeon (Hall of Great Silence and Light),
is unusual because it is dedicated to Vairocana where most other
Korean temples house Shakyamuni in their main halls.
The Temple of Haeinsa and the Depositories for the "Tripitaka
Koreana" Woodblocks, were added to the UNESCO World Heritage
List in 1995. The UNESCO committee noted that the buildings
housing the Tripitaka Koreana are unique because no other
historical structure was specifically dedicated to the preservation of
artifacts and the techniques used were particularly ingenious.
The temple also holds several official treasures including a realistic
wooden carving of a monk and interesting Buddhist paintings,
stone pagodas, and lanterns.

INTRODUZIONE
Terminata
la
sessione
di
allenamento
intensivo
per
Black Belts Elite, Clara attese
di essere l’ultima Cintura Nera
presente nel dojo e si fece
avanti verso il Maestro, al quale
aveva chiesto la possibilità di
una conversazione privata.
Seduta nella posizione del loto
di fronte al Maestro, chiese:
“Maestro, posso chiedere la sua
opinione su cosa è la Storia?”
Il
Maestro
non
rispose
immediatamente.
Dopo
un
momento di silenzio, affermò
lentamente: “La Storia è l’arte
di mentire”
Clara rimase sorpresa e come
prima reazione cercò di protestare, ma si fermò ed attese
pazientemente. Dopo qualche momento, il Maestro continuò: “La
Storia è l’arte di mentire; dipende a cosa si vuole credere. Ma
scoprire la Storia è una scienza, una scienza per trovare la verità.
Questa scienza è chiamata Metodologia di Ricerca”
Detto questo il maestro estrasse un libro e la fotocopia di un
vecchio documento. Scrisse una dedica a Clara sulla prima pagina
bianca del libro, firmò e vicino appose un sigillo rosso.

Il libro aveva un titolo stampato in oro che riportava “Metodologia
di Ricerca sulle Arti Marziali Asiatiche” e il vecchio documento
era relativo al mistero del Collezionista di Teste.
Clara Lynn Ikube era nata nel 1975 su una nave da guerra della
Settima Flotta Americana.
Laureatasi a West Point, intraprese brillantemente la carriera
militare per circa dieci anni, finchè decise di lasciare l’Esercito
Americano per poter fare un Dottorato in Storia presso il
prestigioso Union Research Institute.
Il suo progetto di ricerca sulla Storia delle Strategie di
Combattimento nel Sud-Est dell’Asia la portò nel campo delle
antiche arti marziali vietnamite.
Il suo lavoro era pianificato per uno studio sulla Storia dei grandi
guerrieri della terra del Dai-Nam durante il periodo della Dinastia
Le (1428-1789) in Vietnam.
Questo era un lungo periodo di guerra, combattimenti nelle arti
marziali e applicazioni di nuove strategie militari, intrighi di corte,
manipolazioni che costarono la vita di migliaia di Trang-Si
(cavalieri) di élite, i guerrieri vietnamiti. Molti grandi maestri di arti
marziali vennero uccisi. Durante questo periodo, numerose e valide
strategie militari vennero inventate e poi ignorate da molti storici
professionisti.
Seguendo il suggerimento del suo maestro di arti marziali, Clara
andò in Vietnam, il nome attuale del Dai-Nam, per scoprire la verità
nascosta nella storia di questa terra leggendaria.
Fortunatamente conosceva bene la Metodologia di Ricerca che la
aiutò ad entrare in profondità nella Storia del Vietnam e conosceva
anche il segreto per imparare rapidamente le lingue straniere.

Le sue scoperte sulla storia, la vita, le tecniche e lo spirito dei
Grandi Guerrieri attraverso i racconti vietnamiti, che a volte
contraddicono i libri di storia ufficiali, la sorpresero enormemente.
All’ultimo momento, la sua vita cambiò quando scoprì
un’inaspettato documento poche ore prima di lasciare il Vietnam.
Ritornata negli USA decise di scrivere il suo report come una storia
di fantasia: “Racconti dei Gradi Guerrieri della Terra del DaiNam”
Ricordando l’insegnamento del suo maestro, pensò che ciò che la
gente impara dalla storia, spesso si mescola con i miti nascosti e
fantasie, dato che è scritta da chi detiene il potere per meglio
servire ai loro scopi che siano nobili o meno.
Una buona fiction storica è meglio di un resoconto storico errato.

GREAT WARRIORS FROM DAI-NAM LAND

GENERAL INTRODUCTION
When the intensive training session for Black Belts Elite was just
over, Clara waited to be the last Black Belt present at the dojo and
came forward to the Master whom she had solicited for a private
conversation.
Sitting in lotus posture in front of the Master, she asked: ‘Master,
could I have your opinion, what is History?’. The Master did not
answer immediately. After a moment of silence, he slowly stated:
‘History is an art of lying.’
Surprised, Clara first reaction was trying to protest, but she then
refrained from and waited patiently. At the next moment, the
Master continued: ‘History is an art of lying; it depends on what
side one believes. But discovering History is a science, a science to
find the truth. This science is called the Research Methodology’.
Upon this the master took out one book and a photocopy of an old
document. He dedicated the book to Clara at the first blank page,
signed, and affixed a red seal next to his signature. The book bore
a title printed in gold that said ‘RESEARCH METHODOLOGY FOR
ASIAN MARTIAL ARTS’ and the old document was for THE
COLLECTOR OF HEADS mystery.
Clara Lynn Ikube was born in 1975 on a warship of the American
7th Fleet. Graduated from West Point she brilliantly pursued her
military career for about ten years then left the American Army for
doing a Doctorate in History at the prestigious Union Research
Institute. Her research project on History of Combat Strategy in
South-East Asia led her to the field of ancient Vietnamese martial
arts.
Her work was planned for a focus on the History of great warriors
from DAI-NAM land during the period of the LE Dynasty (14281789) in Vietnam. That was a long period of war, martial art
fighting, applications of new strategies of war, court intrigues,

manipulations, that cost the life of thousands of Trang-Si elite, the
Vietnamese warriors. Many great masters of martial arts were
killed. During that period, numerous valuable war strategies were
invented and later ignored by many professional historians.
Upon the advice of her martial art master she went to Vietnam, the
current name of DAI-NAM, to find the way back into the history of
this legendary land. Fortunately she knew well about Research
Methodology that helped dig deep in the History of Vietnam, she
also knew the secret of learning foreign language fast.
Her discoveries of the history, the life, the techniques, and the
spirit of Great Warriors through Vietnamese tales, which sometimes
contradict official books of History, surprised her a great deal. At
the last moment, her life changed when she discovered an
unexpected document a few hours before she left Vietnam.
Back to the U.S.A. she decided to write her report as a historical
fiction: TALES OF GREAT WARRIORS FROM DAI NAM LAND.
Remembering the teaching of her master, she thought what people
learn from History often mingles with hidden myths and fictions,
written by those who hold the power in order to better serve their
own aims whether it is noble or vicious. A good historical fiction
story is better than a wrong historical account.

LA LEGGENDA DI LAC LONG QUÂN ED ÂU CƠ
Molto tempo fa , durante il regno del re Kinh Dương Vương, il regno
di Xích Quỷ era una striscia di terra sconosciuta con le montagne
alle sue spalle e di fronte al mare.
Il re Kinh Dương che aveva sposato la figlia di Động Đình Quân,
sovrano del lago Động Đình. Avevano un figlio, Lạc Long Quân.
A causa delle origini di sua madre, si pensava che discendesse dai
draghi.
Lạc Long Quân era forte e intelligente. Inoltre aveva una forte
attrazione per gli oceani.
Aveva anche poteri straordinari. Un giorno che era nella regione di
Lạc Việt, uccise un mostro marino che terrorizzava la popolazione.
Gli tagliò il corpo in tre pezzi e li gettò in tre luoghi diversi.
La testa diventò una montagna di nome Cầu Dầu Sơn, il tronco Cẩu
Đầu Thủy et la coda Bac Long Vy.

Lạc Long Quân uccise anche due mostri in altre due regioni, uno nel
Long Biên e l’altro nel Phong Châu.
Decise di rimanere nel Phong Châu per proteggere il suo popolo, gli
insegnò come cucinare il riso e tagliare gli alberi per fare delle
case. Lạc Long Quân poi ritornò da sua madre.
Poco dopo , il re Ðế Lai invase Lạc Việt portando con se sua figlia
Âu Cơ. Il popolo chiamò Lạc Long Quân alla riscossa, ma in assenza
di Ðế Lai, vide solo Âu Cơ. Si innamorarono ed andarono a vivere
insieme.
Al suo ritorno, Ðế Lai, furioso volle opporsi al loro amore e volle
combattere Lạc Long Quân. Però Lạc Long Quân era troppo potente
e Ðế Lai partì , lasciando la figlia a Lạc Long Quân.
Âu Cơ partorì una tasca di 100 uova che diventarono 100 maschi
robusti e belli come loro padre. Però la coppia non era felice perché
Lạc Long Quân avrebbe dovuto vivere vicino al mare ed Âu Cơ in
montagna. Si separarono quindi e ciascuno prese con se 50
bambini.
Quelli che avevano seguito Âu Cơ sono gli antenati dei popoli delle
montagne ed altopiani Invece fra quelli che avevano seguito il
padre, il primogenito divenne il primo re del Vietnam e prese il
nome di Hùng Vương e chiamò il suo paese Văn Lang.
I vietnamiti sono spesso chiamati “figli del drago e della fata” in
riferimento alla leggenda che è una sorta di orgoglio e di legame
tra i loro.

THE LEGEND OF LAC LONG QUÂN
Shortly after the creation of the earth and the sky, people settled in
the deltas of the Hong Ha river in northern Vietnam. Then as now,
most people lived by fishing and harvesting rice. They called their
land Lac Viet.
One day, a god by the name of Lac Long Quan appeared in the
country of Lac Viet. His father, King Duong Vuong, was a
mountain god and his mother, Ho Dong Dinh, was a water
goddess. Not only was Ho Dong Dinh a powerful goddess, she also
had the ability to transform herself into a sea dragon. Her son had
inherited these magical powers.
One day, as Lac Long Quan wandered through the land of Lac Viet,
he felt a dark shadow fall across the sun. He looked up to see a
monstrous black bird. As Lac Long Quan watched, this Demon
Bird swooped down and seized a fragile white crane, which had
been resting nearby. Lac Long Quan grabbed a rock and hurled it at
the Demon Bird, causing it to lose its grip on the crane. But the
Demon Bird soon recovered and, furious, turned to attack Lac Long
Quan.
The Demon Bird transformed itself into a giant tiger and pounced
on the young god. The fight was bitter, but eventually, Lac Long
Quan gained the upper hand. After killing the ferocious beast he set
off in search of the injured crane.
The crane was stunned but not badly hurt. As Lac Long Quan drew
near, it awoke, and in a flutter of white feathers, was transformed
into its true form—that of a beautiful fairy named Au Co. Lac
Long Quan was stunned by the young woman’s beauty. "Will you
be my wife?" he stammered.
Au Co agreed and they were married. In the middle of a lush
garden, inhabited by many species of animals, they built a stilt
house. Their happiness was complete when, a year later, Au Co

gave birth. She did not bear a child, but rather a golden pouch,
which looked like a giant flower and contained one hundred eggs.
Each egg hatched to reveal a perfect baby boy.
Not only were the babies exceptionally beautiful, but they grew
much faster than normal children. Within a few years, Au Co and
Lac Long Quan’s magical sons had grown into brave and gentle
young men.
Despite her beautiful children, Au Co was not entirely happy. As the
son of a water goddess, Lac Long Quan preferred to live
underwater. This watery environment did not suit his wife, who
spent most of her time on land. Separated from her husband for
long periods, Au Co grew lonely and homesick. She began to dream
of her lofty, native land.
"I miss the mountains of my birth", sighed Au Co. Lac Long Quan
looked at his wife sadly. Finally, he reached a decision. "I am a sea
dragon by nature," he said. "You, my wife, are a mountain fairy.
Our habits and needs are different and we must live apart. It is
difficult, but at least we have had our time together."
Then he turned to their children. "Half of you’" said the king, "will
accompany your mother to the mountains and half of you will live
beside the sea with me. If either group should ever face grave
danger, the other group will come to their aid."
So it was that fifty sons followed Au Co into the mountains, where
they grew corn and rice. The other group followed Lac Long Quan
to the coast. They lived by fishing. Only in times of grave danger
would they meet.
These two groups were ancestors of the Hung kings who founded
the country Au Lac in the area that is now Vietnam.
Today, everyone in Vietnam knows this story. Everyone remembers
that the people of Vietnam are descended from Lac Long Quan and
Au Co, a sea dragon and a mountain fairy.
