Palermo overlooks its floral garden on
the bay of Sicily’s capital city. Easily
reached by any means of transport, the
hotel lies 3 km from the city centre,
4 km from the Central Railway Station
and 1.5 from the port which connects
with the principal destinations of the
Mediterranean. By car it can be
reached by taking the A29 PalermoTrapani motorway (Via Belgio exit) and
the A19 Palermo-Messina-Catania
motorway (exit via Giafar). Palermo’s
Falcone-Borsellino International Airport
is about 32 km away, with direct flights
to and from the main national and
international destinations.

Commissionato dalla celebre famiglia Florio alla fine del 1800, in piena
Belle Époque, questo edificio, dalla caratteristica forma di castello, deriva il suo
nome dalla ninfa greca della salute, Igiea. Nato, infatti, come esclusivo luogo di
cura in una località ritenuta salubre, ben presto si trasformò in un elegante hotel,
prediletto dalla mondanità cosmopolita per i suoi ambienti fastosi e per la raffinata
ospitalità, uniti al mite clima siciliano. Le camere in stile Liberty, con decorazioni,
terrazze e balaustre affacciate sul mare e sul giardino di piante secolari, hanno
ospitato le più importanti famiglie reali e borghesi d’Europa.

Commissioned by the famous Florio family at the end of the 19th century,
during the grandeur of the Belle Époque period, this building with its characteristic
castle shape derives its name from the Greek nymph of health, Igiea. Created
in fact as an exclusive health centre in an area known for its beneficial properties,
it was soon transformed into an elegant hotel, favoured by high society
because of its sumptuous ambience and distinguished hospitality, along with the
mild Sicilian climate. The bedrooms are decorated in the Art Nouveau style with
adornment, terraces and balconies overlooking the sea and the garden with its
secular plants. Members of the most important families in Europe including
royalty have stayed in them.
