Is Reg2001N Rev. 200403 - 0 Pag. 5 di 23 Italiano Configurazione veicolo Pagina F1 CAMBIO 1 N.B. tutti i parametri evidenziati in GIALLO vanno modificati col quadro disinserito e commutatore spento. Dopo aver effettuato l'azzeramento reimpostare, dove necessario, i parametri presenti in "CONFIGURAZIONE VEICOLO". Pag. 12 di 23 Is Reg2001N Rev. 200403 - 0 English Introduction Minimum computer requisites for installing the software Operating system Windows 98 2nd edition or successive versions Memory (ram) At least 16 Mbytes Hard disk At least 20 Mbytes free at time of installation Screen resolution 800 x 600 or above Internet Explorer version 5.5 or later version must also be installed Installing the software To install the calibration software, insert the cd-rom in the computer drive and wait for the guided installation window to open. Should the installation programme fail to start, select “Run” / “Start” in the “Applications Bar”. Select “run” and enter: “D:\setup.exe” (where D stands for the Cd-rom drive). You will be asked to indicate the directory where the programme is to be installed during installation; we recommend leaving the default directory. Once installation has been completed, the icon for the programme will be automatically added to the desktop. Introduction It is possible to open the calibration software without having to be connected up directly to the control unit. However, the PC and the control unit must be connected up correctly by means of an interface cable in order to connect up to the control unit (must be ordered separately, as this is not supplied with the kit) item code OMVL 411028. Furthermore, the control unit must be connected to +12 volt battery terminal (red-black wire) and to earth (black wire). Is Reg2001N Rev. 200403 - 0 Pag. 13 di 23 English Main Menu Main Menu This menu is used to access all the submenus contained in the calibration software, all of which are listed and described below: The following information is provided in the bottom section of the page: 1 2 3 4 1) This indicates if the control unit is connected or not connected up to the calibration software. It is important to remember that any settings made when the control unit is not connected will be lost at the time of connection, unless they have been saved prior to this in a configuration file. The programme will automatically attempt to connect up to the control unit when it is started. If the programme does not connect up, a window will automatically open to indicate the error; you should now check: - the connection of the serial interface, - that the control unit is connected to the battery and to earth, - if the sub-key has been switched off for over an hour, you must switch the dashboard on for a few seconds or start up the vehicle if the switch has not lit up with the dashboard on in order to connect up. To attempt connection again, open the “Connection” window and select “Connect”. 2) This is the name that can be allocated or has been allocated to the configuration of a vehicle; for a new control unit, the standard configuration is “standard LPG”. The control unit must be connected to the configuration software in order to download an existing configuration onto the control unit. 3) This is the version of the control unit’s software; go to the “REPROGRAMME CONTROL UNIT “ submenu in order to update it. NB. This is only possible if INTERNET EXPLORER version 5.5 or above, is installed on your PC. 4) This indicates if the current configuration downloaded onto the control unit uses the operating parameters for natural gas or LPG; go to the “VEHICLE CONFIGURATION” submenu in order to select the type of fuel. Pag. 14 di 23 Is Reg2001N Rev. 200403 - 0 English Vehicle configuration This menu is formed of 4 pages where it is possible to alter the parameters that manage the conduct of the gas control unit. These parameters must be set according to the signals that are present on the vehicle. A summary of the gas supply system’s operating parameters is displayed at the bottom section of all the pages. 1 2 3 4 5 1) This box displays whether the vehicle is powered by petrol or gas. The description CUT-OFF may also appear when the system is in cut-off status. 2) This box displays the engine revs currently read by control unit. 3) This box displays the gas (Tinj.gas) and petrol (Tinj.petrol) injection times. 4) This box displays: T.gas: the temperature of the gas, as read by the temperature sensor located on the gas injector rail. T.reducer: the temperature of the gas reducer, as read by the temperature sensor located on the gas reducer. Press: the difference in pressure between the gas present in the gas injectors and that present in the induction manifolds, as read by the pressure meter supplied with the kit. 5) This box displays the reading of the voltage of the lambda probe. NB. the voltage of the lambda probe will not be displayed if the purple wire has not been connected up. Is Reg2001N Rev. 200403 - 0 Pag. 15 di 23 English Vehicle configuration F1 Change-over 1 N.B. all the parameters shown in YELLOW must be altered when the dashboard and change-over switch is switched off. FUEL TYPE This selection is used to initialise the control unit with the specific parameters previously set to enable correct operation with the selected type of fuel. Select: LPG for vehicles powered by LPG; METHANE for vehicles powered by NATURAL GAS. When either LPG or METHANE is selected, the directory also changes where the configuration files are saved (refer to Load configuration). 1 1 1 1 TYPE OF REVOLUTION SIGNAL This prepares the control unit to read the revolution signal by means of the BROWN wire: STANDARD: this option is selected when you connect the BROWN wire to one of the following signals: - rev counter wire with 0 ÷ 12 V step wave signal; - negative coil. WEAK SIGNAL: this option is selected when you connect the BROWN2 wire to one of the following signals: - rev counter wire with 0 ÷ 5 V step wave signal; - static ignition control with 0 ÷ 5 V step wave signal; These signals can only be identified by using an oscilloscope. NO. OF CYLINDERS This parameter is used to inform the control unit how many cylinders the vehicle has and therefore how may gas injectors it must read and control: set 3 CYLINDERS or 4 CYLINDERS according to the number of the vehicle’s cylinders. Should you use a control unit for 5-6-8 cylinders, the following options will also be displayed in the selection window: select 5 CYLINDERS, 6 CYLINDERS or 8 CYLINDERS according to the number of the vehicle’s cylinders. IGNITION TYPE This parameter is used by the control unit to calculate the engine speed correctly, which varies according to the type of ignition that the BROWN2 wire is connected to. Set: ONE COIL: for vehicles with one coil for each cylinder if the BROWN2 wire is connected to the negative of one of the coils; TWO COILS, for vehicles with one coil for every 2 spark plugs if the BROWN2 wire is connected to the negative of one of the coils; RPM SENSOR, for vehicles with one coil and mechanical distributor if the BROWN2 wire is connected to the negative of this coil, or for all vehicles where the BROWN2 wire is connected to the rev counter signal wire. REVS. THRESHOLD FOR CHANGE-OVER This informs the control unit the number of engine revs required for changeover. Set the number of engine revs that you want to reach before the petrol-gas changeover takes place. REDUCER TEMPERATURE FOR CHANGE-OVER This indicates the temperature that the pressure reducer must reach in order for the changeover to gas to take place: the control unit WILL NOT IMPLEMENT THE CHANGEOVER TO GAS below this temperature. The control unit will continue to operate on GAS should the temperature fall below the set reference temperature during gas operation. We recommend setting a temperature between 20° and 45°: if a temperature is set that is too low, the Petrol-Gas changeover will take place when the reducer is not warm enough to safeguard a correct gas supply; if a high temperature is set, a long time will pass before the changeover takes place. Reset ecu and go to base parameters If this button is pressed, all the control unit configuration parameters are reset and the original configuration is restored. We recommend the use of this button in the following circumstances: - each time you “ ECU REPROGRAMMING “ with new firmware: we recommend this button be pressed before you go ahead with any adjustments; - if you are not sure that all the control unit parameters have been set correctly and you want to start parameter configuration: press this button to restore the original configuration of all the parameters. NB2: the Brown wire mentioned is the brown wire in the gas control unit cable. Pag. 16 di 23 Is Reg2001N Rev. 200403 - 0 English Vehicle configuration F2 Lambda TYPE OF LAMBDA PROBE If this parameter is set correctly, the control unit will be able to detect the operation of the lambda probe. Before selecting the type of Lambda Probe, its operation must be checked using a digital multimeter. ATTENTION: only connect the PURPLE wire to the lambda probe: the GREY wire MUST REMAIN DISCONNECTED! If also the PURPLE wire is not connected, it is not necessary to set the “TYPE OF LAMBDA PROBE” 0 ÷ 1 V – Select this option if the voltage on the signal wire oscillates between the following voltages: approximately 0 ÷ 0.2 V with weak mixture; approximately 0.8 ÷ 1 V with rich mixture. 0 ÷ 5 V - Select this option if the voltage on the signal wire oscillates between the following voltages: approximately 0 ÷ 0.2 V with weak mixture; approximately 4.8 ÷ 5 V with rich mixture. 5 ÷ 0 V - Select this option if the voltage on the signal wire oscillates between the following voltages: approximately 4.8 ÷ 5 V with weak mixture; approximately 0 ÷ 0.2 V with rich mixture. 0,8 ÷ 1,6 V - Select this option if the voltage on the signal wire oscillates between the following voltages: approximately 0.7 ÷ 0.8 V with weak mixture; approximately 1.4 ÷ 1.6 V with rich mixture. F3 Gas level TYPE OF GAS LEVEL SENSOR This informs the gas control unit which type of level sensor has been used: AEB – set AEB if a sensor with standard AEB output signal (e.g. AEB1050) has been connected to the gas control unit; for connections, refer to the installation diagram for the gas control unit. 0 - 90 ohm - set 0 - 90 ohm if a sensor with output signal from 0 to 90 ohm (e.g. AEB1090) has been connected to the gas control unit; for connections, refer to the installation diagram for the gas control unit. Is Reg2001N Rev. 200403 - 0 Pag. 17 di 23 English Vehicle configuration F4 Modify carb. IIt is possible to modify the gas carburetion in this section, refining the automatic engine calibration procedure. This is not obligatory: we recommend verifying the carburetion and then proceeding with any modifications if they are necessary. Carburetion can be verified by using a diagnostics tester that displays the petrol calibrators /integrators (e.g. for OBDII vehicles, an OBDII diagnostics tester can be used), verifying them at various engine running speeds. There are 2 columns in the MODIFY CARB section: Low gear: for running speeds below 1100 rpm; Above low gear: for running speeds above 1100 rpm. Both columns are divided up into 4 boxes showing the engine load. When the box is shown in red, this indicates the current operating status of the engine. PROCEDURE FOR VERIFYING CARBURETION Before proceeding with any modifications, first verify that the vehicle runs correctly on petrol as the Gas supply system is based on the Petrol supply system. - Start the vehicle on petrol and wait for the engine to reach its normal running temperature (approximately 90°); - select the box where you intend to verify carburetion and keep the position of the accelerator steady; - verify the reading of the integrators/calibrators using an OBDII palm-top; - changeover to gas, trying to reinstate the same number of engine revs and returning to the same box; - verify the reading of the integrators/calibrators; - if the reading of the integrators/calibrators shifts more than 3-4 units during gas operation compared to normal petrol operation (e.g. the calibrator goes to 11-12% from 8%), correct carburetion bearing the following in mind: if the integrators/calibrators shift towards positive values, it means that the petrol control unit has detected weak carburetion. Therefore, a value that is more or less the same as the shift of the integrators/calibrators should be entered in the corresponding box. If, however, the integrators/calibrators shift towards negative values, it means that the petrol control unit has detected rich carburetion, and a negative amount must therefore be entered. - Verify that the integrators/calibrators show the same reading on Gas as on Petrol after each modification. - This procedure is repeated for each single box. Remember that on-road vehicle testing will be required in order to select some boxes. There is no need to alter carburetion if the integrators/calibrators show the same readings during gas operation as for petrol. Is Reg2001N Rev. 200403 - 0 Pag. 19 di 23 English Autocalibration AUTOCALIBRATION The calibration of the control unit can be done in this section so that correct carburetion of the vehicle can be achieved when running on GAS. Before starting the automatic calibration procedure, first verify that the vehicle runs correctly on petrol as the Gas supply system is based on the Petrol supply system. Proceed with automatic calibration as instructed below: 1) Start the vehicle on petrol and wait for the engine to reach its normal running temperature (approximately 90°); 2) Start the automatic calibration procedure by pressing the ENTER key and follow the instructions shown on the screen. When the engine revs have been reached as specified on the screen, the control unit will carry out several changeovers from petrol to gas. The engine will probably shift the number of revs during the first stages. In this situation, it is important to keep the accelerator steady even if the revs shift, without trying to correct the number of revs. If the engine stalls during the automatic calibration procedure, enter “VEHICLE CONFIGURATION “ in the “F1 Change-over” section and select “Reset ecu and go to base parameters”. After resetting, restore the settings for the parameters in “ VEHICLE CONFIGURATION”, if necessary. Return to AUTOCALIBRATION and start the automatic calibration procedure again, as described above. After completing AUTOCALIBRATION, try the vehicle on gas and verify that it runs correctly. NB: selection of the number of cylinders (in the bottom section of the window) only appears if the control unit is not connected to the computer. If the control unit is connected to the computer, this information will be saved when you select “NO. OF CYLINDERS” in the “vehicle configuration” page. To save it, specify the “Name of file to be saved” and click OK. LOAD CONFIGURATION An existing configuration can be loaded onto a control unit using this submenu. The configuration files are contained in two separate directories: one for LPG configurations and the other for METHANE configurations. Before loading a configuration, you must enter “VEHICLE CONFIGURATION” and select METHANE or LPG in “Fuel type “ according to the configuration that you want to load. Selection of the number of cylinders (in the bottom section of the window) only appears if the control unit is not connected to the computer. If the control unit is connected to the computer, this information will be saved when you select “NO. OF CYLINDERS” in the “vehicle configuration” page. Select the file that you want to load and click OK. NB. To avoid problems during the control unit programming stage, do not rename configurations and avoid moving them to directories other than the original ones. Is Reg2001N Rev. 200403 - 0 Pag. 21 di 23 English Ecu reprogramming ECU REPROGRAMMING It is possible to update the FIRMWARE (the management programme in the control unit) for the gas control unit using this submenu, further to any updates. The installation CD-Rom for the calibration software always includes the latest version of firmware available at the time the CD-Rom is produced, whereas any later firmware versions may be sent by e-mail or by disk and must be requested from your dealer. To update the FIRMWARE, select “ECU REPROGRAMMING” and the “Select programming file” window will appear. Select the update file and click open. Should there be more than one file, select the one with the highest number (the latest version). NB: To avoid losing the configuration of the control unit, check that the control unit is connected to the computer before updating the FIRMWARE. IMPORTANT: reprogramming is only possible if INTERNET EXPLORER version 5.5 or above is installed on your PC Pag. 22 di 23 Is Reg2001N Rev. 200403 - 0 O.M.V.L. s.r.l.
