E’ una fotografia spirituale quella di Nicola Dove, sono ritratti realizzati con
lunga esposizione di persone con una grande fede e catturate in uno stato
meditativo di preghiera. Dove ha dimostrato come l’esperienza interiore può
essere ricordata e comunicata attraverso la fotografia. Una caratteristica
importante di queste immagini è come lo stile del ritratto sia completamente
frontale, in modo da avere un impatto immediato, diretto, che entri subito in
relazione con lo spettatore.

Nicola Dove’s photography is spiritual. Her portraits are taken using long exposure
times of people with tremendous faith, captured in a meditative state of prayer.
Dove has shown that this inner experience can be acknowledged and communicated
through photography. An important characteristic of these photographs is the fact
that the portrait style is completely frontal in order to create an immediate, direct
impact that instantaneously establishes a bond with the viewer.

Mummery + Schnelle ci presenta le due nuove serie di lavori di Ori Gersht,
originario di Tel Aviv, 1967. “Evaders” è composta da immagini panoramiche dei
Pirenei lungo la Lister Route, sul confine tra Francia e Spagna, una strada che è
simbolo luogo di transizione, con una lunga storia alle spalle, fatta di movimenti,
contrabbandi, migrazioni, addirittura veniva usata per scappare dalla Francia
nazista durante la Seconda Guerra Mondiale. “Hide and Seek” ci svela le paludi
di quello che rimane delle antiche foreste polacche che una volta ricoprivano la
maggior parte dell’Europa e che sono poi diventate anche un nascondiglio, un
rifugio, durante i conflitti politici.
Mummery + Schnelle are offering the two new series of works by Ori Gersht,
born in Tel Aviv in 1967. “Evaders” is comprised of panoramic photographs of
the Pyrenees along the Lister Route that follows the border between France and
Spain, a road symbolic of transition with a long history behind it composed of
political movements, smugglers, migration and even as an escape route from Nazi
France during World War II. “Hide and Seek” shows us the swamps of what
remains of the ancient Polish forests that once covered much of Europe and were
also hiding places and refuges during political conflicts.

Ecco una collettiva di fotografi i cui lavori sono accomunati dall’uso del colore.
Chi lo utilizza per intensificare la realtà, chi per confonderla, chi per una pura
forma estetica, ma comunque tutte le immagini sono piene di vitalità e hanno
una grande forza espressiva. Dal 1861, dalla prima prima stampa permanente a
colori di James Clerk Maxwell, il fotografo ha subito imparato a usare il colore a
seconda della propria esigenza comunicativa: tra i lavori esposti troviamo quelli
di Nobuyoshi Araki, Alex Prager, Tim Walker, Ofer Wolberger, Valerie Belin e
Guy Bourdin.
Taylor Wessing Photographic Portrait Prize 2009 A collective of photographers whose works share use of color. Some use it to
intensify reality, some to confound it and others still as a pure aesthetic form, but
all the images are full of vitality with tremendous expressive strength. Starting in
1861, from the first permanent color print by James Clerk Maxwell, photographers
immediately learned to use color according to their own communicative needs.
Among the works being shown are those of Nobuyoshi Araki, Alex Prager, Tim
Walker, Ofer Wolberger, Valerie Belin and Guy Bourdin.

Quest’anno la competizione ha attratto più di
2400 fotografi per un totale di 6300 fotografie!
L’esposizione conta invece un totale di sessanta
inclusi ovviamente i cinque vincitori Paul Floyd
Blake (Londra, 1961) con “Rosie Bancroft,
2009” , Vanessa Winship, Michal Chelbin e
Mirjana Vrbaski, (incluso il primo classificato
del Godfrey Argent Award Ali Lomas, 22
anni). La mostra è itinerante durante il 2010 e
sarà presentata anche alla Shipley Art Gallery
di Newcastle e al The Art Gallery Walsall. Il
premio riaprirà a maggio le porte per la prossima
edizione 2010.
This year’s competition attracted more than 2400
photographers for a total of 6300 photographs.
The exhibition is comprised of a total of sixty
works by the five winners: Paul Floyd Blake
(London, 1961) with “Rosie Bancroft, 2009” ,
Vanessa Winship, Michal Chelbin and Mirjana
Vrbaski, with the first prize of the Godfrey
Argent Award going to Ali Lomas, age 22. The
exhibition will be touring throughout 2010 and
will also be appearing at the Shipley Art Gallery
in Newcastle and The Art Gallery Walsall. The
2010 competition will be open for entries in
May.

Chrystel Lebas e Mike Perry vincono il primo premio rispettivamente del
miglior album fotografico e miglior fotografia singola, del “Garden of the
Year Award 25th Anniversary Photographic Competition”, sponsorizzata da
Christie’s e Historic Houses Association: all’inizio dell’estate un gruppo di
fotografi di alto livello è stato invitato a partecipare alla competizione, che
ha per tema i giardini che hanno vinto i passati Garden of the Year Award. La
mostra pubblica alla Christies’s è una bella celebrazione di questi venticinque
anni di award, dei giardini e dei fotografi che sono davvero riusciti a catturare
bellezza e lo spirito di questi luoghi.
Chrystel Lebas and Mike Perry are the first place winners for, respectively, Best
Photographic Album and Best Individual Photograph in the “Garden of the Year
Award 25th Anniversary Photographic Competition”, sponsored by Christie’s
and the Historic Houses Association. Early last summer a group of top-level
photographers was asked to participate in the competition whose theme was
gardens which had won past Garden of the Year awards. The exhibition open
to the public at Christie’s is a lovely celebration of the award’s twenty-five year
history and the gardens and photographers who truly captured the beauty and
spirit of these places.

Photographic Competition and Mike Perry won the best individual photograph
